@Lynchology101 The issue is you're trying to sound like a typical old head who can't accept the rap genre has transcended elsewhere other than samples, boom bap and basic break beats. Sadly, we're no longer in the 90's, but don't get me wrong, I appreciate artists you've mentioned, KRS-One is one of my favorite rappers man, Edutainment being a classic for and one of my top albums. You got others like Rakim, MF Doom, Wu-Tang, Run DMC, Public Enemy, I can sit here for hours and talk to you about the hip-hop culture and many "non autotune rappers", production, hell I can tell you about the countless Dilla beat tapes I've listened to, but that's not the point I'm trying to make. Arguments can be made for any argument within hip-hop, like do you not get bored of the standard kick, snare, kick, kick, snare pattern that's prevalent in most 90's boom bap beats, did you not get bored of that? It's entirely dependent on taste, and yeah, a lot of these dudes are using autotune, but that's what you get when you get a whole sub genre, it's meant to break barriers, because that's how rap and hip-hop evolves like it has done for 30+ years. You can say rappers back then had talent, but if you're only measuring that "talent" on lyrical substance and flow, then I don't know what to say to you. Talent is subjective, I fuck with Lotus and a lot of this "emo rap" subgenre (which the label is fucking stupid), his lyrics aren't the most in depth, but I'm 25 and I relate to the content, probably how you related to stuff you grew up bumping. That's just me though, just trying to put some insight on it :)

worked the other way around for me. i had listened to emo music here and there throughout my childhood (i was a big black veil brides fan when i was like 4 or 5) but i kinda grew out of it. in middle school i came across bones, peep, smrtdeath, itsoktocry, etc. and got big into "emo rap" as its called and now my playlist is filled with both this and actual emo music.

Epitaph Records used to be an independent record label that was started by a member of a punk band to put out their record then grew to house Rancid, Pennywise and a slew of other punk bands that grew as the label, bands and MTV grew. In the last few years they've been signing more then Punk bands to the label. They've signed and released an eclectic group of musicians. The thumbs downs are to be expected for now, if not ever as some folks can't except change. Slayer fans don't care Reign In Blood originally came out on Def Jam Records! Plus there's been no precident set by what record labels can or can't release. Cheers
