While his work is mostly scholarly, the lower intellectually prepared individuals might be deterred by his level of articulation. no, mahabharat and ramayana are itihasa meaning history that means only theses 2 actually hppned, remaining 18 puranas - are mythological or stories made by sages to explain veda's practical usage in life. so all that is in puranas are myths / stories and 2 epics are real. although due to oral tradition a lot of things are exxagerated or interpolated or dramatised to explain the masses in the oral transferring, eg: ravan 10 heads baasically is a metaphor to show ravaan's 10 qualities of his mind. to make it sound grand and sensational maybe some saints might have passed the epics or itihasa in such a manner. which might sound magic or fiction, but the crux of the 2 epics is historical. so pls correct urself.
