    Brotherhood, this is the definition of the fire service! God bless the Baltimore City Fire Department for its loss, God bless the families of the fallen and God bless the many departments that stepped up and covered Baltimore City so all could be there one more time for their brothers and sister! RIP guys!

    A few months ago, we had a city PD officer killed in the line of duty. Nearby agency PD and Sheriff units covered the city for about a week. County and nearby city fire crews covered city fire’s shifts so they could attend the memorial service. Volunteer fire companies including myself were allowed to work traffic control for the service, where we saw law enforcement agencies from halfway across the country. It was a moving, humbling experience that I hope we never have to see again.

    It's sth we did in EMS as well and offered another EMS provider to staff their unit so that ALL of there members could attend service; Of the originally 2 hours planned we staffed it 4 hours.
    As we has an incident in our own area most of us went to attend the service, only a small crew had to stay back at the station; But then we went in a convoy heading to the station, so also the members which had to remain on shift had a chance to see the hearse

    This is a great story! I often wonder how crews from out of town know their way around? I guess the dispatcher gives thime directions.

    • @pranaavsaravanan7625
      @pranaavsaravanan7625 2 года назад

      Lot of times the apparatus (newer ones) have the onboard computer system, most likely they can connect them somehow to Baltimore's dispatch system and get the GPS working for responses. Not sure if they did that, just an honest guess. I know some stations had like Dunkirk Truck 5 and DC Rescue 2 and so on, and probably was a massive scale of some confusion and internal organizing.

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 2 года назад

      Emergency vehicles have what's known as a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) which gives them the call type and location then the crew enters into their onboard GPS the dispatch address and it helps them find the scene and if it's a fire call the crew has a list of fire hydrants in the vicinity of the dispatched location so they can connect to.
      Then if all else fails and the crew isn't familiar with the area the dispatcher will attempt to direct them over the radio on what roads to take. But often fire departments have several sets of maps for their coverage areas that they can pull out and do the old way of navigating if the GPS isn't helping.

    Just because it's the first time that you reported on something like this doesn't mean that it's a first. I have seen departments from all over the state do mutual aid for a department that has lost firefighters. I guess the Midwest is just ahead of the Eastern departments.

    Putting a whole city out of service for guys who didn’t even know these people? It’s not like those 3 people knew every medic and firefighter that showed up. Just lower your flag or something.

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 2 года назад

      I don't think you have any idea about how big Baltimore Fire Department is , they are a group of guys that respond on calls together every single day and the guys that filled their positions did it so they can attend the funerals for their fallen brothers , these guys selflessly volunteered so the guys from the City can be together.
      Firefighters are one big family that's why you sometimes hear the word Brotherhood when it comes to firefighters , EMS , and Police because they all treat each other like family and when one loses their life in the line of duty it's very heartbreaking for them and they help each other out during their rough times.

    • @amyelizabeth959
      @amyelizabeth959 2 года назад +5

      The call said people were trapped, multiple people if I remember right, the building was vacant of renters or owners that very definitely doesn't mean it's empty. Many of Baltimore's and honestly most cities "vacant" houses catch fire from the people living there every winter. Those people are still worthy of saving especially little kids.... this is a City and State issue too they need to make it easier to auction off those properties most are just standing around.

    • @markwillcox720
      @markwillcox720 2 года назад +3

      The chief was not the first officer on the scene, the call to enter the building was made by the captain on the first arriving engine company, according to the chief they understood that there were obviously homeless people inside in order to have started a fire to stay warm due to the extremely cold conditions, there was no power or utilities turned on to the structure and there had been a fire in that building several months or years earlier according to reports. Its a tragic loss and a shame it takes this for the politicians and red tape is put aside and property owners are called to be responsible for death traps left standing! More shelters and more code enforcement!

      Don't think you understand what career firefighters do for a living , unlike volunteer firefighters.... Career firefighters don't get a day off work because that is their job they work for hours upon hours weeks upon weeks and they sleep at their station away from home.
      Whenever there is a Line Of Duty Death (LODD) it takes hard hit to the men and women because they all work together every single day and they are like family and the whole department takes a shift off to do the Firefighter Funeral Service and escort their fellow deceased brother to their final resting place.
