Damn shame that honest HVAC men like Steve are the exception rather than the rule. This guy actually gives a damn about his quality of work and how his repairs are completed. I'll bet the other HVAC companies in his service area hate his honesty and work ethic.. Imagine having Steve come behind their work.
6:20 me again. the customer says it's low on freon? i keep her happy and put gauges on it. she smiles' , and everybody's happy. it's low. fine your still gonna check the rest of the system. LOL nevermind. You don't pour the coals on an unknown system. I' Am Sorry well, it was just a thought.
So I just had my goodman replaced it was from 2007 they told me it wouldn't be worth charging it with 400-500 dollars of R22. So I bought a new keeprite system Ion with 2.5 ton coil 3500 dollars installed. Did I get ripped??? Cnd dollars btw
15:23 Steve, do you have a video explaining the temps/pressures, what is superheat, etc? And how to consider outside temps when looking at these numbers.
These topics are widely available on the net. I had to stop and look stuff up to figure out what Steve was talking about, mid-video, more than once. This HVAC science and technology business is complicated!
Steve - my gas 'n go business for 22 units has dried up quite a bit with the price. I stockpiled tons of the stuff and my price varies by customer, which I assume we all do.
There are still a bunch of R22 units in my area. Old dinosaurs, they just won't let go of them. R22 is going for $75 to $100 per pound. 410a has tripled in price in just 2 weeks.
@@CactusBobsPlace We are charging 150 per pound here, the jug has gone up 300 more in two weeks. People are nuts and are paying to fill it up for "one more season"
for us in Georgia R22 is about $700 a jug and I charge $100 per pound up from $70 just a few years ago and 410a is now close to $300 per jug and I charge $60 per pound up from $30
One quick question Steve. I’m retired but not really. Phone still rings if you know what I mean. I really like your digital gauge setup. Can you tell me what you’re using? Thanks.
Right, you cannot mix R-22 with the "alternative" R-22, which is probably a bad idea to use, anyway. Best to use exactly what the system is designed for.
Give the customer the straight goods on there "situation". People knock a Goodman but they work for years, provided it's installed right. I'd love to finish a call and see my pup out the window, that's a rewarding feeling. I still work for a large boiler company with lots of HVAC experience. Don't be shy going it alone, especially the younger generation cause there's only so many good guys to go around.
Hi Steve love your channel! I used one of your saying on a client, "Tighter than two coats of paint" We both laughed our ass off naturally I gave you the credit. Keep up the good work Momma!
Hello my friend. I had one call;anytime Ac works the breaker trips ; Compressor did not start. I put booster capacitor ;the compressor starts to run but the amperage of compressor is 40 amp and breaker trips after minuts. What's the reason?
Sounds like that compressor was locked. You put a hard start kit and you got it to move, but it’s still bound up. Might have been run on low charge for a long time cooking the oil and killing the compressor. That or some other internal failure like bad bearings. Sounds like you need a new compressor or a whole new condenser.
AH YOUNG STEVEN...why not check valve cores for leaks...and replace them....r22 is like liquid gold....cheap enough to just charge the lady to swap them out...family inexpensive and quick...or I guess u just want it to be a leakah??
R22 is a pure refrigerant so it can be charged as a gas or a liquid. You can have it up or down, it doesn't matter. R410A is a mix of 2 refrigerants (R32 and R125) so it HAS to go in as a liquid with the tank upside down.
Because in New England, temperatures shoot up thru June. Get it serviced on a cool day, it's ready 2 days later to handle the hot. Smart thinking (ahead) if you ask me.
That thing was probably installed in the Mid 1980's. They didn't put outdoor disconnects very often. My Dad put a Double Pole Light Switch on Our first central air conditioner.

How do you know when to charge as a gas or liquid??? I usually charge as a liquid through the vapor line..does it matter??
410a you have to charge as a liquid because it is a mixture of 2 different refrigerents
R22 you should charge as a vapor (recommended)

Is R22 (CFC) still in use / allowed in USA?
We can still buy what is ever left on the shelf, we can't import or manufacturer it anymore in the USA
No, as of Jan 2020 it has been discontinued. However, there are some systems that still use it.
@@dadefope80 As of last year they no longer allowed to make the stuff but we can still get it with ease. Just extremely expensive. 989 a jug

Anyone with a leaking Goodman? Where do they typically leak? Any thoughts? Thanks.
I know they had a stent where they had some bad evaporator coils that were known for leaking
75% to 80% at the evaporator coil
15% at the service valve
and the rest are other areas (filter dryer. cond coil etc) from my experiance
