My group finished Descent into Avernus, and we're going to do Tryanny of Dragons where they will stop over in Elturel and I'll have an avenue of heroes which is a row of statues of their PCs. I can't wait to see how they react
In my tieflings backstory they lived on the edge of elturel with their family but when the city fell into the hells their house sort of broke off and fell deeper into minauros which is where they gained their druidic prowess
That looks so cool, i kinda wanna run a pre-campaign story set about 150 years earlier where the players partake in the Scouring of Avernus, then when they die pick it up where the book starts
So (ixalan) vampire haunted one redemption paladin of torm, former hell rider watching elturel sink in to avernus, "aw hell not again alright *polishes off sword* let's do this, one last ride..."
I *just* left Elturel a week ago in my campaign! I wish I had seen this first. Can you a video on Daggerford? I've been looking for some lore before my players get there and I can't find any videos on it. Edit: I know you said spoilers, but holy crap I didn't expect that ending. Especially considering how influential the Companion was to my campaign and how amazing and mystical I made and described it. I hope I get to play or DM Descent into Avernus sometime.
I've just started up a game of decent into Avernus but didn't want my players to go into Baldur's gate so I plan to have them be in Elturel when it collapses, should be fun
Thanks, Jorphdan. Finally. One of my friends and D&D mates decided to buy Avernus and look into it. He's considering running it. Tyranny of Dragons, Tomb of Horror into a homebrew, and Descent are what my group are getting ready to start. I'm still taking my time setting up my Saltmarsh setting and story.
Ran DIA in two 6-hr sessions, a while back, for a special flashback scenario. It was fast-paced with skill challenges peppered in and we all had a blast! It was also a great way to inject a chunk of lore into the campaign.
Was LOL at the cover of Hell Riders (1984 movie), staring Adam West (Batman from the campy Batman TV series) and Tina Louise (Ginger from the Gilligan's Island TV series).
Elturgard is east of Baldurs gate , not west. Idk if anyone cares, but just so no one else has to go look It up like I just did after the opening of the video said west lol Love these vids btw, just saving someone a lil time hopefully
Jorphdan, the ph is silent, this video was great, but reminded me to ask if you're ever going to finish more Campaigns Explained. I guess I'll have to join your Patreon so I can vote for the Tomb of Annihilation.
I'm actually trying to finish up Descent into Avernus to do a Campaigns Explained. They take a bit longer than my usual lore videos and I've been so busy. But I'll have some free time around Thanksgiving and Christmas to get more videos done! Here's hoping :D
My next character is gonna be a Shadarkai Barbarian, Path of The Wild Soul. Emotionless Shadowfell Elf, who's soul is infected by Feywild emotional bursts... Good Roleplay potential... Rage=emotional outburst, otherwise the character is pretty indifferent. Also, stats of Shadarkai are good with Barbarian... Win-win.
@@Jorphdan I’ve read those “different books,” too for my campaign setting. Once you know the Duke of Kamlann & Lord Royal Watch Chancellor Inselm Hhune; AKA The First Shield Lord; there’s a jarring bit of discontinuity in BG:DIA. That plot hook was cannibalized from the setting where we’d always known it to be. It’s enough to jar anyone.
@@zcarrell8520 You’re going to want to dig up the AD&D supplement “Empires of the Sands” and 2e supplement “Lands of Intrigue.” The Shield of the Hidden Lord; and the lore/intrigue around it; was a much bigger deal it its original setting/context. They just cannibalized that bit for a little low-level quest in BG:DIA to tie-in with the video games. 5e has really only done adventures for five or so FR settings. A LOT of the Forgotten Realms lore has been… forgotten. Except by Jorphdan.
Thavius*, not Thravus. Zariel and the Hellriders were set to win the battle, but the effects of hell were too much for the mortal men of her army. They betrayed her by running away and sealing the gate to hell behind them. Had they not, we may see a very different landscape in Avernus, let alone all of the planes.
Her own fault. She should have known that mortal men and one angel were no match for Avernus. Even if they did win the battle, it would only be a matter of time before even greater armies of Devils from the other 8 Hells, or Demons from the Abyss, or the effects of Avernus itself messed with them. The fact that Asmodeus himself didn't show up to smite them should have been a clue that he didn't consider them a threat in the first place.
@Jorphdan, I know I already asked this question, but let me rephrase: “If an Angel and a Fiend manages to survive their encounter, what would they get if they mate?” -Double D

probably a normal, not fallen angel. After all, devils are corrupted angels, thus their spawn should be a normal angel, which will later choose wheter to be celestial or infernal. With humans it's a different story, as the result would be simply an half-devil.
I just figured out What the companion is cause i'm playing This campaign with my friends and I got a hold of the sinister agies. And once he realized I knew exactly what he was.He sounded like a Canary to me.Singing a song warning me of what's to awake once we go down below like a canary in a dwarvin coal mine. We all as a party sitting on a ridge.Just admiring the view before. We were going into the city to celebrate the duke's grand celebration when it vanished. Leaving us as the last of the hell Riders. The final troop. We are the hell riders f troop. Now we know how it all happened or rather I do.I'm still not sure if I'm willing to tell my party. The truth about the history of the city at least. What's been told to me from the creation of the companion by the magister of the hand. I'm not. Entirely sure that they would believe me if I told them the truth but given what we have seen so far I think they'd be hard pressed to try and call me a complete and total liar as it is. If deeper and deeper the descent into averness Goes then so too.Does the mystery of what really happened? All those years ago. I came across the Is sinister aiges Right when The lying old man was trying to steal it for himself. Our party put him in his place. And I made the pact with the entity within the gauntlet. It helps us to get to a verness.I will help it get its revenge. My character is half fiend And game recognizes game. So it really wasn't that hard for me to figure out. The highest. Giveaway is that it told me to ice the old man rather than to try and force him to redeem himself. An angel that's been sealed away doesn't try to ask Someone to do a hit job. As soon as they said that I knew they definitely weren't on the level so I bided my time and waited Until I could finally confront them without any of my party being able to trigger into my psychic network.I picked telepathy so i'm basically the team's Communications specialist. But to try and figure this out. From the gauntlet I had to shut down my psychic network.I couldn't have anybody else listening in. But now that I know what I know about the truth of everything, I don't really think I can bring myself to tell them the truth. It might destroy them to know that what we were really fighting for was really just a gigantic plot set up to cause the destruction of Our home adopted town in general. I think if my character told the rest of the party the truth, they would all lose hope. And I, despite being a neutral evil warlock in the game believe hope is one of the most powerful magical aspects ever.It can move mountains. It could make the god's kneel in obedience And make fiends cry with mercy.
I posted this question to multiple places, and it remains unanswered: Who the heck was the vampire high rider? It couldn't have been Lord Dhelt because the dates don't align.
I wish there was a youtube site that dived into DnD's deep lore...over-lore? This is all very interesting but what happened to Bel? Tiamat was allowed to stay in the first layer so long as she imprisoned Zariel. How did Zariel break free? And this is a FR focus video, but if you read 2nd, You know there is only one setting in DnD. All setting are in Planescape. Bel who was considered to be doing a good job at the blood-war is now gone? This has to affect alot of other worlds/setting and the outplanes?
Totally agree about wanting a deep dive channel. The problem is (for us lore hounds anyway) that alot of the books give you the same or similar 1 be paragraph to 2 page bits of info on the characters. They leave the what, where, when, and how's open for DMs to fill in. Or for authors like R.A. Salvatore to write out. If you find a channel like that though PLZ let me know! 😁
