    Welp, looks like I was right...I need a better power supply. I upgraded recently since one of my components died and I did a small upgrade but my 550 W PSU didn't like that. This video 110% proves that I messed up and I thank you for this.

      Yeah, Even the very best 750W PSU will cause a restart from time to time. Those 4080's can spike to well over 500W. Your problems are likely to occur when playing games that work the CPU at the same time. I have a 3080 and a more power hungry CPU than yours. In some games I need to set my GPU to 70% power draw to avoid crashing.

    I just ran into this scenario.
    4 months or so ago, I got an RTX 4080 to go into my 5600x system. Realizing that while in the 5600x was a good CPU, it was bottlenecking my GPU, I went with a 7800X3D build. I have a 750w 80 plus white and with the 5600x, it was managing "just" to run my 4080. But as soon as I got the 7800x3d and an extra SSD, I ran into issues! Well today I ordered a Silverstone 1000w 80 plus Gold PSU and have undervolted and underclocked the GPU and CPU until it arrives

      That setup should be fine on a 400w PSU, though your power supply could be failing.
      I'd check your temperatures first though, get something like hwmonitor running and see what your temps look like as you apply a load to the card. The thermal paste on it could be bad, or it could be full of dust.

    • @CoilWhine
      @CoilWhine  Год назад

      potentially, an insufficient power supply is really noticeable when you put it under load, like in a game or when running benchmarks. Pushing a PSU to the limit can cause extra wear and tear though, so it might cease to power on after a while. A damaged PSU can also damage other components.
      I had a PSU start causing crashes because it wasn't good enough for the 3080 (forgot I only had a 650w in the system). It ran fine for over 6 months, now it causes intermittent crashes. Swapped to a 750w and it's fine now.
      I've also had a cheapo power supply kill my old rx-470...
      Generally, I don't mess with PSUs, buy a quality one that meets or exceeds your expected workload. It's cheaper than rebuilding an entire system that got cooked.
      -Zax

      @CoilWhine  10 месяцев назад

      They recommend a 700w for the 6800xt, but the cpu you're using is only a 65w part so you should be fine.
      My question is how old is this "old" PSU?
      A psu is something you really don't want to gamble with, I've personally had a cheap psu (rosewill) kill a GPU of mine.
      I also had an "old" corsair 650w running a max pbo'd 5800x (140w under load) and a 3080 (recommends a 750w psu), and it ran solidly for about a year. After that, i started to get weird crashes. Turns out the PSU was bad, thankfully the corsair didn't damage anything on it's way out.
      TL;DR: Should be fine, consider getting a newer PSU in the future to stay safe. Pick a good brand (corsair, seasonic, evga, etc) not a cheapo no-name, or....apparently gigabyte lmao.

I replaced every component until this thinking it couldn't be the power supply causing this because the pc never powered down like this and the voltage monitoring in hw info never showed the 12v dropping below 12v. It was the power supply.

    For those crashing but are hesitant on getting a new powersupply because you already have something in the middling range (500-600w), try decreasing your GPU's clock speed. My baka-ass AMD RX 5700 XT suddenly started crashing my entire rig for seemingly no reason. Updated, uninstalled, reupdated, and all that jazz. Basically zeroed in on the problem after unplugging and replugging my GPU, which ultimately was a tempt fix before it started crashing my PC again.
    I ultimately found my solution in going to AMD Software > Performance > Tuning > Custom. Then edited my GPU tuning to decrease it's speed from 2000Mhz(which is honestly too much) to around 1740Mhz. The next to be edited is the fan speed, which you turn into a rather aggressive curve. She'll be noisy, but it works.
    I've also seen post on chaging the PCIE plugs on the GPU from a Y-split to a two cable instead. I don't recall but I don't my power supply had a secpmd GPU plug, but the above settings solved my crashing.

      @@sqtisfy hi there, I almost have the same rig as yours but I have 3070. Did you fix the problem that you’re having? As I have the same issue for months now.

      @@User-sk5zf i havent but i have a few guesses now, i have the intel stock cooler, and this is happening to me less now that i removed the tempered glass side panel, i dont think its my card overheating tho, because when i tested it a few time ago, it was like at 60c when it shuts down, i haven't had the time to test if its the cpu cooler

      @@sqtisfy I’m also using intel stock fans. In my case, whenever I played a game, I can hear my fans revving like a turbo jet, but temperature wise it is still within the normal range. It’s either a PSU or CPU issue I guess. This has happened to me months ago and I had to do a clean install of windows, after that it’s all fine but the problem starts to reappear again.

      @@User-sk5zf i havent tried the clean install, im planning on changing my motherboard because my ubs ports died, i will try to upgrade my cpu and the cooler too, but yeah the same happens to me, the fans goes to the max and then i need to restart everything, it's only on certain games, thats why i think it may be the cpu
