- The Dina freighter or the “Bean Ship”
An interesting and fun dive at an affordable depth.
In the Getares cove in Algeciras is the wreck of the Dyna or Dina. A merchant ship flying the flag of Panama, 109 meters long and displacing 4,078 tons, which ran aground during a storm on January 21, 1983.
It is known for the “bean ship”, because that was its cargo on the day of the shipwreck and it literally covered the nearby beach with that legume.
Upon reaching the site of the wreck, you can still see how, on the surface, a little of the ship's underwork emerges, making it relatively easy to locate.
At an average depth of 10 meters, we begin the tour along its stern and the first thing we see is a structure, which appears to be the fallen bridge at the bottom. Immediately the rest of the stern appears, one of the parts that remains in the best condition. We observe that he is lying on his side and quite buried by the sand.
