This talk is so informative, my goodness I have learnt so much. The red/pink rhizome, the walking variety etc., the yellow flag Iris has been banned where we are S. Africa, totally declared invasive if they are discovered in your garden, heavy fines. I had some but I snipped them up for that very reason. Not worth the trouble. I have some Japanese roof irises, a very small plant, heavenly blue colour and they are fabulous. Louisiana's are what they are called, the Dietes are from S. Africa, they are very pretty but these irises are in a category of their own! The bearded irises are also in a class of their own, and they are very special. I will watch Part 2 regarding these plants and I am sure I will be well advised. Thank you very much for the information. Many blessings and kind regards.
Correct; you need to go to someone who deals in only natives. I’m in Acadiana and Acadiana Native Plant Project sells them. If you’re not anywhere near here, I recommend contacting Louisiana Native Plant Society for growers in your region.

I wish I could find some giganticarulea. I'd love to have an endemic in my yard, next to my pond.
Thanks, Eileen! Very interesting and well done. Joy
This intro is beautiful
I wish this lady could be my neighbor
"Buy them..." Great idea. But every nursery I talk to refuses to carry native species. So where are we supposed to buy them from?

Ditch.
@@j.b.4340 I bought them on dutch-bulbs.com
I have found some irises that are white and have a beard, but they have white at the bottom 😳
They also have flat leaves.
Beardless irises -- apogon Louisiana irises have signals not beards.
