What a great lesson. I like how each layer is disctinct, but you can add another thing as you get better. I listen to John Prine in my car to-and from work every day. Now I get to practice this song when I get home. Thanks.
Lovely!!! Interesting that the D in your opinion can be picked with the 6 or 5 in the bass. I must agree, why not. Thanks for this lesson. I subscribed
The 6th string fretted at the second fret is F# which is the bass match for the 1st string in a D chord. The Triad making the chord is the 1st (D) 3rd (F#) & 5th (A). It’s quite common to have that as the bass note, which is then notated as D/F#. When playing a C chord I always fret the 6th string at the 3rd fret which then makes available a G note in the bass - notated as C/G - so in that case your lead bass note is the 5th note of the scale. I hope that helps Jasper - good luck
Like part1 can't find part2 of this song. Do you gave a link to your website? I subscribed thank you ever so much for posting. I really like your style of teaching.
I don't have a website, but you can access all my videos on my channel page by clicking on "Lowdenjim". I have now added links to each video in this series of "How to play John Prine". Good luck - please ask if you need further help.
Thanks love John prine simple songs but my some stories he had his own wee pick pattern hard to exactly nail that thumb pick of his was grew into his thumb 😂😂thanks man Cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪
+Richard Oram Hi Richard; I'd never heard the song but he plays his favourite "3 chord trick" of G, C & D with his capo on 2nd fret to play it in A. His picking style is basically the same as in "Speed of the Sound" though the song is however easier to play. I'll upload a close-up cover version with lyrics & chords so it should be easy for you to follow how it's played. I hope that will help!
Only suggestion: put the song FIRST. Helps to know what sort of beat or strum you are trying to get to. If you plan a trip from Miami to Orlando, you find Miami, then Orlando in the map; you don’t start with: turn left on 20th street, drive a while, turn right onto 4th Ave… 👎
The opening screen says "How to play the Speed of the Sound of Loneliness in the style of John Prine." Anyone wanting to learn to play this song as John Prine sang it should already be very well familiar with the song, and should not need to have to listen to a rendition of the song from me before getting on with the actual journey. Here in the UK we have a saying "Going round the houses" - get to the point; get to the destination - don't go round the houses. I haven't "gone round the houses" (or attempted to navigate from Miami to Orlando). I hope that answers your criticism! Good luck with the song - it's a good idea to "know the song well before I start singing" (Dylan) - great advice for anyone wanting to learn how to play a song eh?
Ah now James I'm so sorry my video doesn't meet your specific requirements, though I assume folks wanting to learn this song might have heard it first and maybe even be familiar with the melody and a smattering of the lyrics. My approach is a structured one designed for adults, progressing from beginner through intermediate to advanced, and depending where you are on that scale then you can choose where to start. If, however, you struggle with detail or have an attention span no longer than a gnat's pecker, then there are always loads of 1 or 2 minute wonder videos here on RUclips that race you through from start to finish in about the time it will take you when you first get laid. I note your channel has a label, "This channel has no content" but I genuinely welcome your limited efforts to contribute something of substance here. Good luck with your guitar skills......

@@Lowdenjimbut the 6 can not be in the bass ever in a D… correct?

You're welcome - my email messaged to you separately.
Shut up and play, you should always play a good part of the song first… so we know what song you’re talking about 🤪 some catch on quicker than others.

@@Lowdenjim Thanks, keep your chin up 😉

What a fk ?? Was this. ?? You’re 100 years away from John prne. Bro
You are clueless, and your channel content is obviously a fair indication of what you have to offer society in general - Naff-All.......
