I remember when we filmed this. I was an extra on School of Rock in January 2003. We filmed on Staten Island. This was at the end of the second day and Jack Black asked us if we would help him out. Then he described the scene with the van driving down the street with the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe and how they wanted The Immigrant Song pounding in the background. So then we filmed this segment so they could send it to Led Zeppelin. I never thought it would be on RUclips 18 years later lol. This was a really fun experience. It was freezing cold when we filmed. Jack Black was super nice and was singing Jesus Christ Superstar between takes. When Joan Cusack & the parents come into the concert and discover the kids playing she stood right next to me so you can see my elbow in that scene. So my elbow made it to the film. Lol. But this clip is awesome! What a fun trip down memory lane!
I literally can not think of a film that deserved the right to use a Zepp song more than this one. That scene where The Immigrant Song plays is just the embodiment of the spirit of this film. I would like to think that when the surviving members saw the finished cut of the film, that they felt they had made the right decision. I also would like to think that Zepp also loved the movie in it's entirety. The movie, although formulaic, is truly a love letter to the days when rock music reigned and was truly an art form.

you would think this song was the main theme for the movie, or the one they use to win the contest... but nope just a little scene... i mean yeah it's kick ass and everything, but i wonder if zeppelin was like "yeah, but only 30 seconds!!"
sonnic1995 i think you’re out of the loop. the whole thing with this is Jimmy and I believe one of their new managers in the recent days were very strict about their songs being used and rights and all that. You know Guitar Hero Aerosmith??? That was supposed to be Guitar Hero: Led Zeppelin.... Either page or their manager wouldn’t let activision or whoever made guitar hero at the time use their songs. And that was a game that was going to be based on just the band.
@@carpenoctem775 Rock lost its popularity in America but guess who’s still more popular and known the world over and the planet literally started counting the years after his death on our calendars, music genres come and go but Somthing tells me that Jesus Will remains popular for future generations to come
How is anyone going to say no to such a powerful request in front of an audience of screaming people?? You have to be a really cold and heartless bastard to do something like that. Well done Jack Black and "School of Rock" cast :-)
Its a recording, he didn't ask them live 🤣 Its very easy to say no whem they quite comfortably said no to so many others before. There was a chance they might not even look at the video.
Anyone else kinda bugged that he didn't shout out John Bonham? Dude was a God. Led Zeppelin stopped being a band because of it. I love this scene and everything about it, just ynow as a drummer it feels like cmon Jack.
They could’ve used it however they wanted. The funny thing to note about this is that it wasn’t remotely vital for them to have that song... Smoke on the Water, Voodoo Chile, Baba O’Reily... almost any classic rock radio staple with a mimicable sing-along part (which when you’re JB could be a vocal OR guitar riff) would’ve worked.
Setnaro X this was in a time when Zep was notorious for not letting anyone use their songs. They’ve opened up a lot more over the years, probably due to the success of this but the money too lol
I'm surprised Joel Veitch of Rathergood used it for the "Viking Kittens" sketch; I'd think he'd have to ask for their permission as well. It was also used in "Shrek the Third"
The moral of the story is "Don't be too proud to beg". Loved School of Rock - so glad you begged:-)
Ain't too proud to beg, sweet darlin'

Lol cool story homie. Figures, 15 min of fame only included your elbow. Sounds like our luck is similar 🤠🤦♂️
If its any consolation, you had my favourite elbow in that film
I vote to put you in as an extra in most (all) films so that you may chronologize our tales.

Thor Ragnarok used it and it fits with the story.

To think, we have this movie to thank for Led Zeppelin being more open to using their songs in media.

Let's let him use it.

I guess Marvel just wrote a huge cheque.
Zeppelin turned down dumptrucks of cash many times. Artistic integrity. Maybe Marvel Money helped made the stairway to heaven out of solid gold.
Zep is probably broke from all the plagiarism lawsuits.
Rock Will Never Die !!!
Led Zeppelin for life
And after this, The Immigrant Song ended up being used in everything.
Actually gave me goosebumps :)
I love rock. And I just met this song watching this movie... So it is an exchange
makes me wonder what dreamworks and marvel studios did to get the rights to use the song....
Well, Marvel set Surtur loose to gloriously destroy Asgard as sacrifice. I guess Dreamworks gave them some money.

Immediately after granting the rights to School of Rock they cleared “Rock N Roll” to be used in a Cadillac commercial, which also came out in 2003.
I remember when they used rock & roll for Cadillac and was quite surprised. Then heard an interview with Page & he stated "lots of money"
