No this is not true. He was beaten a few times by Armien Vardien of Jonge Studente. I was a musician of Jonge Studente in 1994 when Boggeltjie(as he was known to many) won the liedjie in the section, but Armien Vardien won in the top10 and in the top14 of the very same year... but no doubt, Boggeltjie was one of Cape Town's great liedjie singers.
