This is my all-time favorite song from my all-time favorite movie! This song belongs only to Judy Garland. The only other person who can sing it is Doris Day! Judy Garland liked Doris Day's voice and told her that she should record Somewhere Over the Rainbow! Thank you for posting and sharing this! This beautiful song is of hopes and dreams!

Classical piano is my background too, but an uncontrolled addiction to the sound of 2nds, 7ths, 9ths, 13ths and altered dominant chords draws me to jazz and classical / jazz hybrid style. A few years ago I played nothing but jazz for a couple of years then went back to some classical repertoire and my left hand could not play octaves without playing wrong notes; it was too used to playing 7ths and 9ths.
Thanks. I love the sound of altered dominant chords, but you have to be careful to use them in the right places where they have the most suitable effect

@@kerawelt2008 You can make good progress if you just learn about upper structure dominant 7th chords and also tritone substitutions. Also, with dominant 7th chords, get in the habit of not always including the 5th. The 5th is nearly always there in classical music, but in jazz harmony it gets in the way of more colourful tones such as the 13th, the sharpened 11th and the flattened 13th.
