I liked that you showed all the buttons on the canner. My first canning of meat was hamburger, I hit a sale and then came home and realized I didn't have room in my freezer. I was very pleased with the results and making meals with ground beef became very fast and with less mess
Thank you and yes I enjoy using that canner for the same reason if I find a good sale on meat I grab it and start canning.
I saw someone use the ring from the jar as a mold to make the patties. They were perfect size after they were browned up. Im with you on the Superb lids. 100% made in America.
Thanks for the tip a couple other people commented about that also. That’s what I like about this community everyone helps each other.
@@DsHomestead ya I should've read through the comments first. I haven't canned for a while and this makes me want to start again.
@@patriot1902 you should get back into it. I sleep a lot better at night knowing I have food on my shelves in case it’s not available at the store anymore. Just remember the whole toilet paper thing a few years ago.
Easy meat press use 1 jar ring & 2 jar lids, put little oil on them. Put 1 lid in jar ring press meat with 2nd lid, just push patty out of ring with bottom lid. Use old lids that you already used for canning instead of throwing them away, no added expense that way.
Thank you I like that idea.
Some people use the "ring" from the jars as a size to check sizes. I've just laid the sausage out into a 9 x 12 layer and cut ir apart using the rings. Kind of like cutting out cookies. Then I bake them and they shrink a little and fit perfectly into the jars.
I’ll have to try that. It seems like that would work a lot better and if I used a rolling pin to flatten it then it would probably be more uniform in thickness. Thanks for the tip.
Great way and works great
Thanks for doing this helpful video, it’s my first time on your channel. I’m now a subscriber, keep up the good work!
@@kimt4870 thank you and welcome
This just came across my inbox. I like canning meats, especially when they are on sale. I also buy from local farmers. Thank you.
Thank you I appreciate the comment and yes I prefer buying from the local farms and butchers who raise their own beef and pigs also.
Hello from Homesteaders of RUclips! I love canning!! I’ve not done sausage before! I’m going to have to give it a try!👩🌾
Welcome and it’s pretty easy to do. I’m really enjoying the canning projects I’ve been working on also it can be addictive lol.
Roll it out like dough , on wax paper. Turn over a jar use it as cookie type cutter for patties
That sounds like a good plan also. Thanks for the information.
nice video. Turn your ring upside down with a lid and it makes the perfect mold for your patties that will fit in the jar.
Thank you and yes a few other people had said that also. It probably would’ve given me a more uniform thickness to the patties also.
Use the ring for your jar for the mold for your patty.
Yes a couple other people had mentioned that also. I’ll try it the next time I do them. Thanks for the tip I do appreciate it and it helps the whole community.
I love patera, good luck with your channel
Thank you and yes I love watching her also.
A cookie cutter may work since those come in different sizes.
That could possibly work. Thanks for the idea.
Electric pressure canners are not considered safe from the CENTER FOR HOME PRESERVATION.
To make your patties from bulk sausage, use the ring from your wide mouth jar as a "cookie cutter." After they are browned, they will shrink enough to fit in your jars perfectly. Then top off with hot water to 1" heads pace, then wipe the rim with vinegar to remove any grease. Then apply the lids & rings. Process for meat time 75 minutes for pints, 90 minutes for quarts at the proper pressure for your area.
Can safely according to the rules and never be sorry, sick, or dead.
@@denisewilson8367 I can’t find anything on their website saying electric pressure canners aren’t safe. The only thing I see on there is that 10 years ago they said they don’t recommend using electric pressure cookers because they haven’t tested them yet to know if they bring the items in the jar to the correct temperature for the right amount of time yet. I personally don’t use an electric pressure cooker I use the pressure canner. There is a lady here on RUclips I can’t remember her name but she did scientific testing on the pressure canner brand I have where she put probes in with the items being canned that record the data after canning and cooling she would take the recorders out and download and compare the data and in all the videos I saw that she put out the pressure canner exceeded the recommendations from the center for home preservation and the usda. If I remember correctly I believe she was a professor at some university. Thanks for the information.
Quuestion, have you ever filled your jars with beef broth which could then be used to make gravy?
@@brendanorris4368 no I haven’t tried that yet with sausage. But I would imagine it would work. I do add broth to venison and regular beef so it should work just fine.
We allways boil our seals. No cold sealing
I don’t always boil them but most of the time. A lot of the manufacturer’s now claim you don’t have to but it doesn’t hurt to do it anyhow.
Thank you for the responce. We learn ever day. I dont can. I want to try some pickeld sauage like pennrose. Cant find them anymore. Think i can addapt your prosses
@@donavonbaker5172 yes we do learn everyday and I enjoy that. Knowledge is a good thing to have.
I just got off the phone with the presto customer service department they told me it sound like a new gasket and I'll cost 20. Dollars plus 10. Dollars shipen.i had a mirror canner for over 30 years and never had this problem .it's funny the box says it has a 12year limited warranty on it . What a jobl this co. Is
Check with red hill general store, I find their prices are much better than the company stores
Sorry to hear that you had an issue with your canner hopefully they got it fixed for you.
Looks like a great idea. I'm going to try canning some!
Yes they turned out very well and it’s nice to know I have a few jars sitting on the shelf for an emergency power outage or anything else. I hope you enjoy them and thanks for watching.
We always put a small amount of vegetable or olive oil in our hands and grease our seals, lightly, before a day of canning. You only need to do it on the first load of the day. The light coating of oil will keep your seals hydrated and they last a lot longer. It's probably not a recommended procedure, but my mom and grandma always did this and we're all still kickin' around to tell the tale.😊 By the by, a set of seals usually last me 5 plus years of heavy, year round canning.
Thanks that’s good information to know.
You can use a jar ring with a used lid. Just press in and pop out.
Thank you I’m going to try that the next time I do sausage.
What is the shelf life if stored in a cool, dry location?
I usually aim for use by the end of one year from date canned but I have been able to open a jar of canned sausage UpTo 4-5 years after canning date as long as follow storage procedures of cool dry place without the rings on jars so can tell if it becomes unsealed. It wasn't intentional that the jars were on my shelf that long but it accidentally got pushed back into a very dark corner of my storage area.
Just a tip-use canning lid to make the patties. Goes for hamburgers to
Thank you I appreciate the tip.
Roll the meat out and use a canning ring to cookie cutter them out
Yes that would work thank you for the idea.
I love that idea. You could do the same for burgers or meat loaf patties too.
Use a canning lid to measure the patties
That's a great tip for making evenly sized patties!
Did your grandmother have a pressure cooker or would waterbath?
@@paccur1252 I’m wanting to say she had both but I might be wrong.
I always call salt Mexican sugar, because my brothers would tease me as a kid because I can't say salt properly 😊
Sorry to hear they teased you about that but glad you figured out a solution that worked for you.
I use the ring of the jars I plan to can it as a patty form. It works very well
Yes it does mine came out very good.
How many pounds of sausage did you use and how many sausage patties did you get just as a approximate
I believe it was approximately 4 pounds of sausage and I got roughly about 33-35 patties out of that.

Welcome and thanks for joining the journey.
My Mom canned sausage when I was a small child, she rolled them in a small ball to fit in the jars. Delious stuff
I agree it’s delicious and nice to know it’s on a shelf for a power outage or whatever other emergency comes around
That's right sir, we never know this day and times
Having these kinds of things put away is also a great convenience for days when (for example) we aren't feeling like doing everything from scratch for breakfast. I also do up cubed potatoes (dry canned) which are great to just plop into the huge electric skillet and cooked in a combo of duck fat and left over bacon or sausage grease. Alongside some left over biscuits with home canned jam/jelly, some scrambled eggs, home canned stewed tomatoes, and a hot cup of coffee and you've got a delicious breakfast!
Those are great ideas and thanks now I’m hungry 🤤 🤣
Info on dry canned cubed potatoes pls. TY
@@gloriaespinoza9369 I’ll work on that I was wanting to get some potatoes canned up anyhow.
