Yep...I played a high level war cleric once, it was pretty much this scenario. You don't get rezzed till the end of the fight if you do something stupid, and you better have that 500 gold diamond on you somewhere...
One time had a party had that (most of)the players would be greedy and take most of the gold. I was trying to save up for some plate. I brought this up to the party that there are some materials I need which would be expensive if someone were to die. And they might not be avaliable if I didn't have them on hand during a dungeon crawl. The party (except for 2)agreed to put 10% of all earnings into a pool for if the party needed it fir spell components or equipment ect, that would benefit the party (not personal gain) (we called it life insurance). One of the agreements was I would save 1(each spell) spellslot just to cast this emergency spell (level 3/5) I asked if they wanted to buy their own materials to have a private plan that would only be used on them but they declined. Moving along guess who dies one of the pcs to die one of the two. The rest made it so I couldn't revive him. The other guy then wanted to be part of our health insurance policy. But the rest of the party agreed either 1: he would have to pay backdues. Or 2: have an adventure deductible (which was about a couple dozen). He choose the first and was very upset having to pay more then 8k in gold in back dues
Currently playing a level 4 goblin war cleric, but there is also a Divine Soul Sorcerer who is played by somebody that loves to play support classes. So in this scenario my job is to be the secondary tank, rather than a healer but I can do out of combat healing quite well and do have healing word on standby just encase. I've pretty much taken bless off of my prepared spell list since the Sorcerer casts it almost always, and I can then toss out a spiritual weapon and a weapon attack or make two weapon attacks first round.
Same! I’m currently playing a Light Cleric and ended up taking the role as party nuker with some healing spells if needed. Honestly, if you look at the cleric spell list (especially light cleric) there are some crazy low level nuker spells in there: inflict wounds, guiding bolt. Later on light clerics even get fireball!
Object lesson: never tell a Cleric that they're only good for healing, and definitely do _not_ get in the way of an angry Cleric. That is how you meet the Wrath of the gods.
As a Tempest Cleric that has had to Play Tank, Blaster (I love Call Lightning/Wrath of the Storm) AND bring other characters back from unconsciousness in a single fight on more than one occasion, I can attest: do NOT make the Cleric angry...
My tempest cleric specifically never prepared healing spells because I was a DPS. I used to play a Lawful Evil Cleric of Loviatar, Goddess of Pain, Suffering and Torture. (Domains: Strength and Evil.) Her Heal skill was maxed, but mostly for A) properly administering various torture techniques and B) keeping people alive in order to prolong their suffering. Cross-Classing several points into Rope Use was obligatory too. And she was big on using Subdual damage to beat an enemy into submission, tie them up, drag them along with the party and do what torturers do the next time the party made camp, dismaying one or two of her partymates into questioning her along the lines of "Do you _have_ to do that?" As for the Healing Domain, that's for Clerics of Ilmater, who are staunch enemies of Clerics of Loviatar. Clashes between the two can get pretty interesting, seeing if the Ilmateri can withstand and outlast the Loviatans' abuse. 🤔
I am currently in a campaign as a forge cleric, although there is definitely some healing involved it is a very small part of what I do. Clerics are a fantastic class, so far beyond "just a healer"
@@Rystefn i agree, especially for forge clerics. My cleric has something stupid like 22 AC, and can stack bonuses up to 8d8 on a hit. why wouldn't that be on the front line hitting stuff!
Vlithryn is my favourite guest character (might even surpass the main ones) and is always treat to see, glad to see she hasnt lost her banshee wail Also despite her character appearing as lawful good her smirk at 4:06 suggests otherwise...
LG is a grand scale thing. At the personal level you can still be a right !@#$$%% with out shifting alignment. Some of the most evil things done have been for the good and Order of the realm.
I never even noticed that. Maybe she went through a little bit of a power trip after ending someone's character like that. She was put in her place a minute later though, so it worked out.
Vlithryn is easily my favourite character in any of these. Her "I'm going to tolerate this - barely" transitiong into "no, I am not able to tolerate this afterall" demeanour with the stupidity of her own party is just perfect. And this particular video is perfection! Bravo!
Oh I am ALL 4 THIS. Don't tell anyone, but Vlithryn might be my favourite! But combat medics always have a place close to my heart. Unrelated, do clerics have a union? Because they need one.
A cleric union is called a religion A wizard union is called a circle A warlock union is called a cult (they get a lot of union-busters targeting them)
It’s always so funny how people assume only clerics are healers, I played a Bard, AND a Druid in one campaign, nobody asked me for heals the way they’d do a cleric 😂
That always bugged me. Players never go to the Druid or Ranger for heals, even though both get access to more than the average cleric innately. I've told many people that my Cleric's tend to be combat specialists, while other classes I play are usually never combat oriented.... (mages become artificers and make magic weapons, fighters become leaders in town and cities directing guards or soldiers.. the rogue style classes usually never get seen anyhow.....) when I play druid, I'm the healbitch, and no one ever asks.....
Agree on druids, but rangers SHOULD NOT be the party healer. After 1 cure wounds they’re out of spell slot when they could’ve used their action to kill the attacker
Currently playing a healer. I spend more time doing buffs/control then healing. But then again inspiring leader as a life cleric Celestial warlock is a beautiful thing. Who needs healing when the enemies cant do any significant damage.

and pointless too, Pretty sure Nixie has Scorching Ray, which is going to be pretty similar for damage (if upcast to 3rd level) against a single target.
4:05 That smirk XD that was me when the barbarian permanently died after basically going after the dragon alone because he said the rest of the party was useless.
Sometimes i wonder how Nixie is still alive, but then i remember that these fun characters somehow prevail through everything and will probably outlive the entire party. But only if the healer does not decide to kill them.
..... I'm currently doing both, somehow. Playing a "Reborn" DSS. Basically a statue (likely a victim of petrification), who was "revived" by an overdose of divine energy in the area. Got mediocre stat rolls, so have an 18 in cha, 15 con, and 13 dex and wis. Took no social skills as I am not a talkative player....and didn't realize that everyone else in the party us cha for a dump stat. So, have 11 ac, forgot to take defensive spells...and have still managed to survive from 3rd to 7th level so far, by abusing the shit out of subtle spell, guidance, bless, etc. Pulled off some great plays, like tanking a crit from a phase spider (saved vs poison damage, + resistance to poison, but still got dropped...nat 20'd death save, still paralyzed. Asked DM if Subtle spell would still let me cast....if I could see the enemy. He allowed it. Suddenly the statue is laying on the ground, shooting off guiding bolts from his eyes. Or the time when three party members dropped, and with twinned healing word, and a healer's kit? Got them all back up in the next round. Now the party has basically adopted him as a pet, and refuse to let him die. He should have died long ago, but everything just keeps working out to keep him alive.
2:05 Antrius getting ready to say "Well, actually, I just reached level 10, earning me the Magical Secrets skill. So yes, I *can* throw a fireball, I just haven't had the chance to do that yet!"
Time to launch a thousand crazy theories about what Antrius was about to say at 2:03. It could either be an horrible pun involving our favorite horny bard and part of the word "fireball", or the reveal that he, in fact, knows Fireball from magical secrets. In this case, I expect this fact to come up in a later episode.
I was expecting "Actually, I can, but I was busy getting vored by a giant at that time!" But Eva was quite aggro and it will always remain a mystery. x)
Vlithryn's patience finally was exhausted with the constant bickering among the trio. She used friendly fire to kill both Evandra and Nixie. Good thing the bard was busy making his way out the other end of the giant or he too would have joined the other two in death. From the looks of things the cleric is more powerful that the three of them combined. That lightning spell Vlithryn wields is stronger than Nixie's fireball. The latter's spell barely set the giant on fire where as the former's spell took out the giant easily. Great humorous episode.

You want your blessings and Her divine favor, _right?"_ "Well, you're busy wrenching that poor goblin's arms out of their sockets, so...I'm not so sure now." "I put a gag in his mouth! Why aren't you happy with that?"
Yeah, Shandora d'Flagellad wasn't a very nice Cleric. 😏
@@BloodyBay Wait! 'rope use'? I suddenly have a not so clean thought.
@@chengkuoklee5734 ...I'm listening. 😈
@@BloodyBaywhat domain was she out of curiosity? I immediately thought life as they’re the best clerics for healing but the flavour doesn’t quite sound like a life cleric.
@@Evoker23-lx8mb Her Cleric Domains were Strength and Evil (both of which were in Loviatar's portfolio in 3rd Edition Forgotten Realms), as I recall. I'd have to dig out her character sheet to make sure, but I'm 99.9% that they were Strength and Evil.
As for the Healing Domain, that's for Clerics of Ilmater, who are staunch enemies of Clerics of Loviatar.
Lets be fair; in 5e every class is every other class.
My 3.5e cleric never used spells to heal, reserving channel divinity slots for that. Instead, every spell slot was a buff so he could wreck shop.
Healbotting has always been the least effective way to play clerics.
@@Rystefn i agree, especially for forge clerics. My cleric has something stupid like 22 AC, and can stack bonuses up to 8d8 on a hit. why wouldn't that be on the front line hitting stuff!
@@thomasbecker9676 yeap, and very little in the way of build diversity. its a pretty boring edition of the game.
The Vlithryn costume is amazing. Great to see her get her moment. Clerics are badass.
Vlithryn is my favourite guest character (might even surpass the main ones) and is always treat to see, glad to see she hasnt lost her banshee wail
Also despite her character appearing as lawful good her smirk at 4:06 suggests otherwise...
Hey, Lawful Good doesn't meant you can't revel in a little schadenfreude . . .
LG is a grand scale thing. At the personal level you can still be a right !@#$$%% with out shifting alignment. Some of the most evil things done have been for the good and Order of the realm.
lawful good does not mean lawful NICE
Mogdar is my favorite guest party member.
I love the look of intense satisfaction on Soylent’s face when Patrick rips up Eva’s character sheet
I never even noticed that. Maybe she went through a little bit of a power trip after ending someone's character like that. She was put in her place a minute later though, so it worked out.
I love that the cleric is trapped in a mid-2000's sitcom
Vlithryn is easily my favourite character in any of these.
Her "I'm going to tolerate this - barely" transitiong into "no, I am not able to tolerate this afterall" demeanour with the stupidity of her own party is just perfect. And this particular video is perfection!
Bravo!
Oh I am ALL 4 THIS. Don't tell anyone, but Vlithryn might be my favourite! But combat medics always have a place close to my heart. Unrelated, do clerics have a union? Because they need one.
A cleric union? Sounds like organized religion.
Could use a Cleric in my party. I swear, my Bard probably does more healing than fighting and inspiring.
A cleric union is called a religion
A wizard union is called a circle
A warlock union is called a cult (they get a lot of union-busters targeting them)
i absolutely love the healer's reality tv style talking to the camera like she has to justify her actions. really funny. welcome back!
Even webbed fingers😳
Her costume is fantastic.
It’s always so funny how people assume only clerics are healers, I played a Bard, AND a Druid in one campaign, nobody asked me for heals the way they’d do a cleric 😂
Which is funny because druid is actually best healer in the game because of goodberry lol
@@Tydorstus Forge Cleric, start the game at level 1 with 20 AC, have 30AC by level 3 unless the DM restricts your gold intake or what you can buy a huge amount. No matter what the DM does have 40 AC by lvl 7 if you are smart enough to also make your cleric a blacksmith. By this point nothing can hit you. Anything the DM put in to hit you will never miss for the rest of the group and anything that can miss the rest of the group will never be able to hit you. Become the walking fortress.
Most dangerous boss, the friendly fire
and pointless too, Pretty sure Nixie has Scorching Ray, which is going to be pretty similar for damage (if upcast to 3rd level) against a single target.

Cleric: "Oh no you misunderstand the situation. I am the healer, I decide who lives and who DIES!!"
4:05
That smirk XD that was me when the barbarian permanently died after basically going after the dragon alone because he said the rest of the party was useless.
I think it's called "hotness armor." Similar to plot armor.

I love Pink. Fireball them all. But the special effects are getting better. Happy everyone is back for another season. Also Clerics are the best class
"You ARE the danger zone." Is there a truth spell operating? Because that was fire.
I am sure he knows how to cast them, if we consider games canon.
I was expecting "Actually, I can, but I was busy getting vored by a giant at that time!"
But Eva was quite aggro and it will always remain a mystery. x)
Pretty sure he got it as a Magic Secret and is just waiting to put it at use once Pink is out of slots.
@@kuroinokitsune Oooh I haven't watched the games, but it makes sense if he has the spell in them.

I love this episode! And it's so good to see Vilthryn back!
This episode was weirdly cathartic to watch. I love that cleric . 💙
Everybody be laughing at the cleric, until he calls down the Wrath of the Gods.
LOVE the cleric. I feel all the struggles as my own clerics dealing with the party.
I took one of those 'what DND character are you' quizes back when that was still a thing. I got dwarf monk. That's just perfect. I had a full beard at 16, at just _barely_ 5'7 I'm the second tallest person in my family. (my dad's younger brother is 6'1) I come from a long line of broad shouldered, hairy and short people. I like to joke that my whole family looks perfectly appropriate carrying oversized hammers and mumbling about dragons that dun' stole our gold.
Love the guests we've had on this show. I am very excited for this season, this episode was a fantastic beginning!
"You ARE the danger zone!" Priceless!
I love all the background screams including a random wilhelm or two.
Incredible character growth of the Cleric girl.
Great episode again. Love the heck out of you all.
Sticking to classic D&D type scenes is the way to go.
Keep up the awesome work!
"Hole in my heart like a dounut" best line ever
You gotta love the cleric, I hope I could see her more in the episodes. I will be keep updated by your episodes. I love it
2:16 "you _are_ the Danger Zone!"
This line's eventual utterance (and the beautiful double entendre in my head) is the actual and entire reason that the song lyrics of Highway To The Danger Zone were written 3 decades or so ago.
The cleric giveth and the cleric taketh away 😇
As a cleric, I always inform my group of my intentions, To kill things with might and magic! Even if it's you by not healing your wounds.
"I am not a heal bot" is my prayer to get spells.
These designs are wonderful.
Wonderful way to start the new season. looking forward to all that is next.
HOPE the cleric becomes a permanent addition to the party! ^^
5:03 this is why I love her character, gave the party what they deserved really
I've played a cleric with the healing and protection domains. She was the party tank and one of the primary damage-dealers.
That was such a sweet and heartfelt episode.
Woah the production value on this one
I usually play the cleric and get so po'd when someone does some dumb stuff like try to steal from someone mid battle.

"Less talky-talky, more healy-healy"
I love watching this! Just stumbled on you guys. Keep it up. Love from Los Angeles.
New favorite episode aside from maybe the musical! Well done with keeping the emotional stakes high even through the humor. 😀
I feel like people vastly underestimate that while Clerics do have healing spell access, many domains focus on aggro, control, or beating something dead
Don't need to heal the party if you kill the enemies quickly enough.
Old school death clerics were great. Don't worry, death will just make you better, I promise.
Beating something undead RE-dead.
Loved playing the Cleric, (hence the name).
Must say it's very spot on in terms of being done with everyone's 💩.
Much respect for the healers.
Was honestly wondering if we were going to have a "wandering through the afterlife" style adventure after the fireball!
someone needs to do an Office-like series where there are interviews with party members to get their commentary thoughts while also watching what they are doing.
