I laughed out loud when he said that. I get it if people don't like the Eagles. You can't turn on any classic rock station and not hear them within an hour. They're played constantly. One of those bands you don't have to like but you still know every word. Regardless, they're my all-time favorite. My copies arrive in two days and I'm excited as hell! The first 6 studio albums on one-step. It's like a dream. Can't wait for Hotel California.

Grew up listening to the Eagles and the other Asylum bands. Bought these one steps and I love them. Vocal harmonies and the guitars sound amazing.

Have to agree with you about the sound quality of these records. I’m very happy with them and glad that I was able to get them both.
I was blown away at how good the one-step Eagles debut album sounded. Excellent separation of the instruments and vocals are spectacular. Even Don "Manbitch" Henley's drums sound great. I didn't purchse Desparado as its a little weak, songwise. Hope they do On the Border and Hotel California next.
Agree re the weaker songs on Desperado. “Desperado” is probably my least favorite Eagles hit (followed by “Witchy Woman”), but “Take It Easy” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling” are two of my faves so it was an easy decision just to get the self-titled. I assume they’re going in order, so On The Border and One Of These Nights should be next. I’m leaning towards getting both, but One Of These Nights is a definite purchase for me.
Desperado is probably my second favorite after Hotel California.
I'd say Desperado is one of their best, but to each his own, especially on the "Manbitch" comment, that made me laugh out loud! I think Don Henley is *very* full of himself, but he is a great drummer. Probably the best singing drummer if Levon Helm wasn't so damn good at what he did.

The reason they took so long to sell out is because MoFi proper chose to sell the majority of the pressings on their website. With other One Steps they only list 1,000 units before they "sell out", then places like you, plaidroom, AS get the rest.

I got the Eagles debut record on One Step and was really blown away. I just received the Hotel California One step and I’m finding it to be really bright, to the point of being harsh. Can’t win em all I suppose.

shame that some Eagles fans won't be able to get those albums because of someone that's gotta have it all, just for the sake of audiophile quality.
Well, you don't have to worry about me snagging a copy.. I only buy music I really like. In fact, I don't own any 1-steps, yet.. Unfortunately. There's a couple I'd love to have, but they're long out of print. ;-)

I wonder if the originals were mastered to sound good on the radio over anything else.
Eagles are not my favorite band, though they're in the top 50. I regretted not getting Bridge Over Troubled Water so I was waiting for an album to come along on One Step that I really liked and along these came. They sound incredible. The bass tone will likely be my go to for showing off my Cornwalls. One of These Nights is my favorite Eagles album so I'm especially excited about that one. I will buy all of them even though they're way overpriced and I put the boxes in the closet...
I played my one steps and found them to be pretty good. But honestly not blown away, it was good
Need a hotel California one step. I only bought the first album because I am not a huge eagles fan either. But they did have some killer singles and that is why they are special.

Mike, love your videos. I agree, I am not much of an Eagles fan but I am a big fan of Mofi and anything they do in 45rpm. I was a little surprised that Mofi did this series in One-Step instead of the 'standard' 45rpm series like they did with a bunch of Miles, Dire Straits, or Dead stuff? I never in my life thought I would ever, EVER consider spending $750 on 6 Eagles records??
Both of mine were warped, but they do sound fantastic. Waiting on Mofi to send out replacements soon.
I remember getting their first LP when it came out and still have it in great condition. Kind of know the LP inside out by memory. Nothing prepared me for the One Step. Vocals and strings in the freakin’ room. And the banjo on Take it Easy just jumps out of the speakers as do the well defined and separated background vocals. Let’s face it, they were good enough for Mike to be relatively complimentary to them so MOFI has that for a testament!

MoFi One Step makes stupid decisions to tweak some One Steps to sound HOT where they don’t sound natural on a neutral system
This album. Blood ON the Tracks, Monk and Mingus were incredible
Appreciate your shoot out videos & usually agree since I’ll usually have many of the same pressings & come to the same conclusions, but here I differ in part. In part bc I don’t have the one steps, but I do have first pressings of both albums & both were mastered by iconic mastering engineer Doug Sax (RIP) at the mastering lab, credited on liner notes but no “TML” in deadwax bc DS didn’t begin using the TML stamp until a bit later I understand.
I do NOT feel my Eagles first pressings sound at all muted, veiled, or rolled off. In fact, the opposite to my ears, they are among my “go to” albums to demo or test new gear. The first chord on the first track of S/T, take it easy, bursts out of the speakers with such force & immediacy that it will make you jump. The rest follows as well, ie, detailed highs, extended & defined bass, excellent midrange, vocals have realistic tonal qualities, the whole smear. Definitely audiophile SQ IMO for both albums, which is why I wasn’t motivated to jump on the one steps. JMHO, YMMV,
Now maybe the one steps are just that amazing, but now that I’m retired & on a bIt of a budget, I’m reluctant to spend serious fundage unless I have a real hole in the collection or I can’t resist. ✌️❤️🎶

I ended up with 5 original and 1 Desperato through a lost freight auction and would make someone a great deal on them.
Judging by the comments, more non-Eagles fans than Eagles fans watched it and that really tickles me. For some reason, this band has that effect...
I'll have to say that I am an Eagles fan and I immediately ordered both of these. They are both very detailed but they sound a bit sterile. I bought the original "Eagles" on Asylum and I've been very impressed with it. Eagles "Greatest hits" sold more but it was just God awful compared to the original first album. The MoFi 1-Step was more detailed but I found it to be light on the bass and sterile. Desperado was not even close to the sound quality of the first album either on my original or on my 1-step. The 1-step was clearly better but you could hear all of the shortcoming of the mix and mastering... it sounded hard like early solid state equipment did.
I agree about the eagles except there are times when I love Lying Eyes and a few other songs.
Hopefully Mike will provided us with his source for those one step sleeves.

I totally agree with you. Sound fantastic, but not something I would listen to again probably. So far, the only box I will pick up next is def Hotel California, which besdies the Greatest Hits, I don't need much else Eagles.

For me The Eagles really got to be a great band when Joe Walsh joined them, until then I felt they were one step above bands like The Little River Band and Nitty Gritty. Joe really brought them into a heavier sound, which was mainly two.
Lots of talent. Always been a Joe Walsh fan, back to James Gang. The Eagles are good but not my thing. Always thought of the Eagles as a band that was “less than the sum of it’s parts”.
IMO the first pressings sounds so awesome good, what the hell is the reason for this insane priced Boxes ? Sound fetishists who have too much money will buy this, but the sound doesn't justify any price. This is turbo capitalism.
Guaranteed you won't play these as much as all the originals we've already played...to death.

I think many people think the Eagles are ok. Never heard anyone say it’s their favorite band but sure someone out there thinks that. With that said, I purchased these one steps. Only have Eagles at the moment but think it sounds great. So well balanced
I'll be your confirmation, then. For about 4 years of my life (I'm 20 today), the Eagles have been my favorite band. I've started to understand over the years why many think they're overrated and especially overplayed on radio, but I haven't heard them to death enough to get tired of it. I'd throw my hat in the ring for a MFSL of On The Border, no way I could afford any more than that!

These MFSL pressings are quite pricey, but some of the Eagles best music is from Desperado, On The Border, and One of These Nights. I wouldn't down play em like that :)
My experience with several copies of "Greatest Hits" is that they were all awful. They didn't sound anything like the original first album. The recording and mastering went downhill on all of the following albums till they got to "Hotel California." It's like they fell into the trap of using "early solid state" boards and overdubbing, over compressing and over processing crap that ruins music.

Paying 750 for a record unless it is an original mint collectable and therefore an asset that will hold good value over the longer term is madness. No way the sound quality is that much better than a repress for £20.

Does anyone know if the Mofi One Step vinyl is cut from a digital source? I know Mofi created new DSD masters so I'm wondering if the vinyl was cut from that.
Yep.. they have been using a lot of DSD. DSD is not quite as bad as PCM but it still sounds quite sterile to me.
@@RandyShirley Yeah, I heard about that. Right after I posted that, the controversy blew up. It doesn't really bother me because for sound quality I prefer digital formats anyway. I'm not one that ever found digital to sound too clinical or uninvolving, but I've heard people say that. I still listen to both formats, vinyl and digital, so I'm not missing anything anyway.

I really dont think the One Step process get you any meaningfully closer to the master tape, just a quieter noise floor.
@Nicholas Not as I define it. Sound is separate from the noise beyond it. And even then, no matter how quiet you get, you still have tape hiss on analog recordings.
I dont believe in cables making an audible difference either.
I'm sure it sounds great and I like the Eagles. I just don't think I $125 like them, yah know?
