I applied to Palomar Fire Academy when I was 19 but as fate would have it within two weeks of hearing back from them I was diagnosed with a rare cancer. After I had spent most of my twenties fighting, I'm five years cancer free. Now at 32 and in better shape than 19, I'm finishing up my EMT and applying again later this year. Life as we all know can be so strange, but never and I mean never let it tell you no!
Yeah, it's nice to see an academy actually lifting weights instead of just doing calisthenics. Calisthenics don't help you much at dragging a 300lb obese man out of a burning building, or carrying a victim down a ladder, or picking up a victim on a stretcher. I never have understood why they do body weight push-ups, pull-ups and squats in the fire academy, when you are fighting fire your gonna have about 70lbs of gear added to your body weight, they should at least do PT in full gear.
Looks awesome. As a senior what can I do to do this? I’ve been accepted to cal state San Marcos but lately been thinking that palomar might be better to get my EMT and Paramedic certs done and possibly even take classes like this.
Hey man congrats on graduating from the 52nd, I’m currently in the 53rd and in charge of making of video for the academy. I was just wondering if for all your footage from live burns if you just used a GoPro or something else. Thanks!
What's up man! Congrats on 53. Yes, the entire video was filmed with a GoPro - about 80% of the video (including livd burns) was all filmed with my GoPro Hero 6. I used a plastic protective casing around it but be careful because it will melt if it gets too hot. Good luck, stoked to see the outcome!
