Hi Miranda. Your efforts to uncover the mystery of the paints are awesome. Grins. Thank you for being there for us. Jack and your husband are too funny. Jack is so adorable.

Isn't it strange how yours seem to have more colours with less strenght and more particals... (still not my palet😅)

Pretty colours! Indigo looks like a smoke grey - weird but kind of nice too.

loving those glittery nails :D that naples yellow is so pretty~ for indigo, maybe they're trying to mimic NB1 natural indigo? .... oooh ok you just showed it compared with another of their own indigo which is higher tinting. i wonder what they'll say.

Thanks, Vee; I'm having fun with the glittery nail polish. Yeah, it's just this particular set's Indigo that's too light. But again, it sure is pretty!

The first indigo I tried was from paul ruben student grade watercolors and so whenever I think of indigo I think of their violet leaning indigo 😅 but Holbein's look so nice!

Thank you, interesting to see the different versions of indigo, I believe that the PB66 pigment is the original synthetic indigo which is not rated as highly lightfast. I have the Shinhan version which is lovely and has a really deep tonal range. I have a couple of others too and they vary quite a lot, the advantage is that it has no black pigment in it which quite a few of them have.

Becca Hilburn also did a really in depth review on this pallet and the gen 4 tubes. She had issues with indigo as well.

Was super interesting to see all of those Indigos side by side! I'm not sure which one is my favorite, perhaps the Holbein one.
I've had some weird White Nights paints that just didn't want to be painted with. I guess this happens sometimes, although it is weird that this seems to affect an entire generation/batch of paint in case of your Paul Rubens' paints. That's a pretty big miss in terms of quality control. Very nice swatches and I enjoyed your video a lot. ☺

I have the Van Gogh Indigo and I find it works great for me. So I guess it's my favorite? But yeah I agree that the Paul Reubens looks more like a Payne's Grey, which isn't bad by any means, but not what I would look to an indigo for?
Also it's not painting without cat fur in it.

Thank you Miranda for swatching these paints! It was so interesting! Before your video I watched Lily Moon‘s video.. and yesterday in the evening I swatches some Paul Rubens watercolors out of the Tube. The Indigo in my sketchbook is so deep and dark.. it’s a bit of a shame that these Sets have so much problems with some of the colors. This can’t be right. Indigo is one of my most fav colors and I’m always excited how different it looks from the different brands.. I think I prefer the deep blueish ones. 😊

I watched Lily's video earlier this morning. The indigo is my favorite color. In my old age I'm starting to favor soft, paler colors. Would almost buy the palette just for that color but my luck it would be a beautiful dark blue.

I was hoping to see someone else swatch this after seeing Lily Moon's video. That indigo is pretty but so pale and I feel like it has to be a mistake. I think my favorite out of your indigos you compared might just be Rosa Gallery's, or perhaps one of the Holbeins. I like the older Paul Rubens a lot too but you're right, it looks like a payne's gray.

what a difference in colours with all of those indigos! I think I prefer the Rosa Gallery one, only because it looks like a good combo of all of them 😀
and Jack just wants to help!!😝

This was such a great video! I would’ve been disappointed with that indigo as well, I definitely think my favorite indigo of the bunch is the Rosa Gallery! I’ve never invested in the Paul Rubens artist grade line, just because I have so many others right now! 😂 I am a little bummed that I missed out on that beautiful emerald palette though, maybe Amazon still has some - off to look! 😂 Great video as always! 🩵

If anything, Paul Rubens has some QA consistency issues. Not sure I want to spend my money on taking a chance, but others may be okay with it. Thanks for this video, and @lilymoonart for bringing up the issue!

I bought the emerald palette in 2022; I was so disappointed with the violet. It was so weak, splotchy, and almost impossible to get any color. So because of that I wasn’t surprised when I watched Lily Moon’s difficulties. I just purchased the 5th generation palette to hopefully get a better violet. It was much better.

How odd that they would use real indigo, then combine it with phthalo blue. Gotta leave it to the Asian brands to come up with confusing and unnecessary mixes :) I do love my Rubens soft pastels! They use good, lightfast, watercolorist-approved pigments, and disclose them, unlike so many pastel brands (although there are clearly mistakes in their pigment notations.) I'm betting they made a typo on the Burnt Umber, that can't be PY42!

The obvious colours that stood out were very interesting. However, I found that the Prussian blue seem to be extremely light for what I am used to pression blues that I’ve worked with. I almost black in maths tone. Is it just the lighting from the camera?

Also just subbed to @lilymoonart. Yay a new Art friend 🥳🥳
Also also that Paynes grey kinda made me sad. I love me a Paynes grey but the one in that Emerald set was so underwhelming. 😢
