  • Instructions for Setting the "beat" on a Hermle Wall Clock. This is a simple demonstration of how to set the beat on a Hermle Wall Clock. If your clock is out of beat, the pendulum run swing for a few minutes and come to a stop. A clock in good beat will keep running until it winds down.

Thank you for that information! I had the clock slanted on the wall to make the beat even. I couldn't understand how to make the beat even when my clock was hanging plum down. Thanks to this video I now have the clock beating evenly.

Thank you so much for this! For the longest time the clock I inherited from my mother would only run evenly when it was tilted to the point of being visibly crooked but every other video I saw about setting the beat didn't seem to apply to this model of clock - I had no idea it was this easy and now it's running smoothly while hanging perfectly level.

You just cured the problem I had on my skeleton pendulum clock - thank you - I kept thinking the clock must be out of level with the wall or it wasn't hanging plum down - but doing your little adjustment but to the right instead of the left has fixed it.. I was scared to do anything like that because I thought I'd damage it and it would never go again - thanks again!

I have had two failed attempts via eBay to find a replacement 351-020 Hermle Franz movement because I received movements that were said to be "tested" and "working" but in fact were missing parts or the wrong movement entirely (i.e. a 66 CM when I needed a 45 CM). The original clock was well cared for over the years until the family member who owned it could no longer do so due to advanced age. I suspect the original clock movement is simply out of beat but can't seem to get it to stay in beat.
Upon dismounting the movement and placing the movement on a level surface, spouse made a small adjustment and managed to get it in beat. The hands were not installed but it was ticking away for almost an hour with the pendulum attached so we decided to reinstall it on the wall. (The only other thing I can note is that it was not chiming during this time and the chime when I could get it to do so prior to this required me to manually keep the pendulum moving, after which the chime was all jumbled up with the strikes.) At any rate, somewhere between laying the movement down to attach the body inside the housing to reattaching the pendulum back on the leader - which can't be done from the front and requires the clock to be off the wall- it went out of beat and is once again sitting dead on the wall. :-(
The wall clock came from a family member who recently had to move into assisted living. We aimed to get the clock working by Christmas in the hope of letting the family member who owned this clock for 50-some years know that her beloved clock is working again (it stopped keeping time about five or six years ago). We came SO CLOSE today after again cleaning the pivot points, applying a tiny amount of clock oil and working to put it back in beat - only for it to go out of beat the moment we reinstalled the movement in the clock body (unfortunately the housing for clock will not sit flat and upright on the table because of the design so reattaching the movement entailed laying the clock on its side and then putting it upright to put the pendulum on the leader). In just the short distance to walk the clock back to its spot on the wall it apparently went out of beat again. (We even tried to secure the pendulum so it wouldn't swing freely while moving it.).
We're running out of time to get this working before Christmas. In short, what are we doing wrong? (Already verified the simple stuff like the fact that the hands are not binding.)

So an update: Somehow managed to get the clock movement going and it's keeping perfect time. But it's chiming an equal number of chimes to strikes. What do I do to separate the chiming and the striking?
