4 hours in and multiple RUclips videos… came across this video at my giving up point and did exactly what you did and it popped out. Now I can sit down and enjoy my beer
I was changing the brakes & rotors on my 2014 Chrysler Town & Country 42000 miles, they were the hardest ones I've ever done they would not come off I used every hammer I own up to a 5 lb sledge hammer and my air chisel rust was flying everywhere that was yesterday today I watched your video and got them off in about 10 minutes. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this vid!! I tried everything else from hitting it with a rubber mallet to trying a big gear puller then watched this and a minute later the rotor was off. Thanks again!!
Just made me look like a beast! hubby has been hammering away at his rotors for 3 hours with no luck! I watched your video and went outside and showed him what to do!
This worked like a charm! Took 2 minute per side and you didn't have to spend any money (assuming you had a heavy hammer) and you didn't risk bending your brake caliper holders. Man I recommend this and it got off some pretty stubborn rotors!
Thanks a lot. I am changing my rotors and pads on a 2000 Mercury 302 V8. The right front rotor basically slide off like butter. The left front rotor doesn't want to bulge! I will do your technique in the morning and get it off. Two thumbs up from Kingsport, Tennessee!
Awesome! I was stuck trying to get my rotors off and they just wouldn't budge. I came in the house watched your video and I went back outside and implemented it. It came loose within a few hits of the hammer. It maybe took 5 minutes from where i had to take the tire off my driver side and the caliper. This was absolutely great.
I really needed this video about an hour ago. My wife's 2006 Pontiac Vibe has some really stubborn rotors. I started the job a little bit too late in the evening, thinking it would go just as well as my brake job where the rotors just slid right off. I guess I will try this method next time. Thank you for the video.
The lug nut tip was exactly what I needed. I was beating on my 4Runner rotor for a good 15 minutes but not hitting hard because I was worried about the studs. After the lug nuts, I whomped on it for another 10 mins and the rotor finally broke loose - thanks!
Nice video... I like the fact that you showed the viewers exactly where to hit the rotor and explaining the metallurgical bond the rusts has on the hub and the inside rotor surface. Also using the M8 X 1.25 bolt to is great resource too!! Thanks again. Kurt Estilow
Thanks dude. I'm replacing my wheel hub assembly, both sides in the rear. Never done it and this rotor kind stopped me. Wasn't sure of what the do's and dont's were. Subbed and liked.
This was a great video. Thank you. I used about a gallon of WD40 and banging the back side of the rotor with no success what so ever. I watched this video, went back out and had both rotors off in about 3 minutes with this technique. Thank you.
FYI, WD40 is not a lubricant, it's a water displacer (which is what WD stands for) to stop metals from rusting from humidity and water. Spread the word.
My rotor was so stuck, I didn't believe this would work, but it did. Took me only seconds using your method. Thank you. One thing I did differently was to place one sledge hammer head on the "sweet spot," and then tap the sledge with another sledge. This made it harder to accidentally hit the threads on the lugs, and gave me more room between the lugs, because I didn't have the lug nuts on.
Brian! I turned this video on and as soon as I heard the voice I thought, "This guy sounds familiar." After a couple seconds I realized it was you. Hope all is going well. Thanks for the video. It helped me get my rotor off!
I watched several other videos, tried all the techniques and spent 6 hours working at it…then found this video and tried your technique… the rotor won’t budge
That eventually worked. I am glad I put the lug nuts on since i did hit one and one of the studs did go in very slightly. I had to hit it from the bottom with a bigger hammer to get the rotor loose since the smaller one didn't do it. Thanks for the tip though.
Great tip with the lug nuts to protect the bolt threads. Easy to get lazy and forget that part. 15 seconds to avoid a potential 15 minutes of unnecessary work (or worse).
On my 2007 Hyundai Tucson I had 2 philips head screws holding the rotor on. It snapped off removing them and they will still holding onto the rotor. I had to drill them out. Your procedure worked after I drilled them off.
Mine was stuck and my boyfriend has been pounding on it for 20 minutes and so I found your video and it came off after a couple hits!!!! Thanks a lot!:))
I love putting anti seize between the rotor/drum and the hub/bearing assembly. I love anti seize in general, the stuff is great!! It makes life easy and tastes delicious of toast in the mornings!!!
You da man.....I kept hitting the outside of the rotor - no go. It only took a couple whacks between the threads - and came loose. I may still invest in a cheap rotor puller though for future use!
Great info dude, but oftentimes the rotor's rusted to the hub by it's centering ring, but this method also works well for freeing that up. The permanent solution to the problem is to coat the replacement rotor's centering hole w/anti-seize compound, then they'll always come off effortlessly. Also coat the centering hole or the wheel as well, and that will enable U or anybody else to get the dang wheels off again to begin with.
I hit it with a hammer and that hammer bounced back and hit me. That was smart and when you don't have the power & strength like a man. Thank you for sharing us these tips.
Nice advice. I tried it, but it didn't work. Mine was so rusted (Rochester, NY), that I had to use a crowbar behind the rotor, bang and rotate, until it finally let loose.
I love your videos they are so easy to follow and informative. Like this one, I've done rotors before, but it's always nice to learn new tricks. I've subscribed for sure.
Another great video that will save guys tons of time . You ever worked on a rotor that was so rusted to the center hub plate that you needed to take the entire assembly off & then take a rose-bud torch to it to release it . Welcome to hell , this shit happens to me all the time .
Before you install the new rotor use an anti seize compound such as Never Seez to coat the surfaces where the rotor contacts the bearing hub (not a heavy coating) to help prevent this problem from occurring the next time.
@121sabritas distributor will be the same for all chevys, theres just 6 points instead of 8 if you find info for a 305 or 350. basically- take the cap off, rotate crank at harmonic to tdc. mark where rotor is pointing on distributor, loosen distributor and as you pull it out it will rotate, make another mark where its pointing right after removal. install is reverse, just line it up at your second mark and as it drops in it should line up with the first mark, then set base idle with timing light
This video was indeed redemption for the 2 hours I put into various other methods, $12 mini-sledge from Harbor Freight did the trick just fine. Thanks!
There's more than one way to skin a cat. The part that was ground off it's load bearing at all. It's just the first bit. I have thread files and I own several sets of taps and dies metric and SAE all the way up to 2". Many wheel studs are cut so there are no threads at all on the end.
I use the same technique except I don't use a sledgehammer. A regular claw hammer will work. It's all in the technique. Stand up with your back to the vehicle and the rotor to your right (or left if you're a southpaw). With hammer in hand, bend at the waist until you can touch the point you're aiming at with head of the hammer. Take as big a backswing as you can and let it rip. You don't need the mass of a sledgehammer if you can put speed behind it.
Thank you very much! This is the way to go.thanks for showing us to use lug nuts on to protect the stud! Thanks for showing us to hit the area between studs! I used a 4 pounds harvor freight hammer, and i got the totally rusted rotors off. The bolts method does not work for me, this does. The key is a big hammer.
Dude ur a Godsend. I watched ur mazda protege EGR passage vid last week to fix my sisters car. And decided to use this vid for my brother in laws '13 corolla. And it wasnt until U showed ur face at the end of the vid that I went holy cow! Same fukn guy!!! Haha!!!
Wow 9 year old tip. Classic I found another tip the other day. Two bolts etc.... I like this. My guy beat mine with no give. Not sure how he beat it. I like this method and logic. That's how I scrap. Manual tools lol. Im ready to try again. I carry heavy loads and drive long distance heavy. Sit overnight super heavy so real interested in what method works. Ill try this first. The bolts second. The grinder last. 😱
Thank you my man. You are a savior. I was beating the hell out of rotor for two hours. 5 good whacks doing it your way and off it came, thank you.
4 hours in and multiple RUclips videos… came across this video at my giving up point and did exactly what you did and it popped out. Now I can sit down and enjoy my beer

Thank God!!! I watched like 20 videos of this is how you get a rotor off.. its easy and none of them worked.
Thanks brah!
Worked perfectly for me. I didn't think I was going to be able to get it off. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for ur help because my dad was beating the heck out of the thing and ur idea got the roter off in no time.
Thanks dude. I'm replacing my wheel hub assembly, both sides in the rear. Never done it and this rotor kind stopped me. Wasn't sure of what the do's and dont's were. Subbed and liked.
Doing my brakes right now and this worked perfectly on both 'siezed' rear rotors.. Thanks!! Hello from Australia.
You made my day. Thanks so much! There almoist always seems to be an easy way but if you don't know the trick, it can get so miserable.

Your the man!!! I was beating the back of the rotor for 20 minutes and nothing happened. I used this method and it was off in 3 hits.
THANK YOU!!! You saved me SOO much time with this trick
Been watching a bunch of videos... you're the one who shows the most logical way!! Thx!
I'm glad I found this video my dad and I were having hell getting the rotor off of my mustang thank you!
I was struggling removing rear rotors on my Mazda 6 until I came across you video. Wow it works great !Thanks for the help. Toronto Canada
Brian! I turned this video on and as soon as I heard the voice I thought, "This guy sounds familiar." After a couple seconds I realized it was you. Hope all is going well. Thanks for the video. It helped me get my rotor off!
Worked great! Using lugnuts to protect studs saved me cause I DID miss...just ended up with a dented lugnut (used a regular hammer). 2012 CTS. Thanks!
I watched several other videos, tried all the techniques and spent 6 hours working at it…then found this video and tried your technique… the rotor won’t budge
I didn't have that heavy hammer but my 40lb dumb-bell worked perfectly.
You are spot on, that rotor will not come off. I’ll try the baby slug hammer.
Nice wheel stud thread work around tip! Thanks Brian.
Thanks for the tips- worked like a charm!
That eventually worked. I am glad I put the lug nuts on since i did hit one and one of the studs did go in very slightly. I had to hit it from the bottom with a bigger hammer to get the rotor loose since the smaller one didn't do it. Thanks for the tip though.
Great video. Simple and super helpful. Always learning something on this channel, and this one saved my night. Thanks, Brian.
Great tip with the lug nuts to protect the bolt threads. Easy to get lazy and forget that part. 15 seconds to avoid a potential 15 minutes of unnecessary work (or worse).
Follow up: Just needed some serious "Love Tapping". Should have watched that video first. Feelin' so enabled now! Thanks, Brian!
On my 2007 Hyundai Tucson I had 2 philips head screws holding the rotor on. It snapped off removing them and they will still holding onto the rotor. I had to drill them out. Your procedure worked after I drilled them off.
I'm always amazed at how well these little tricks work. (Which you'd never think to hit a rotor ON to the car to get it off.)
Thanks, You helped me get past some frustration and pain.
Welcome Mike!
Thanks man!! Wasnt sure if that was the right way or not. Came right off!
out of every trick i tried. this was the best.
Great tip. Thanks. I'm out the door and changing my rotors now. I was afraid they would be stuck. Now I know what to do if they are.
THANK YOU, this was the only thing that worked for us! It came off in seconds when we did this :)
Good video. Helped me also with rear rotors which were bonded tight with the emergency brake shoes. Mazda CX 7
Thanks for the vid. I knew there would be a way to remove the stuck rotors with out an expensive tool. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much, sir!! I was getting so frustrated. Worked like a charm first time out.
You da man.....I kept hitting the outside of the rotor - no go. It only took a couple whacks between the threads - and came loose. I may still invest in a cheap rotor puller though for future use!
This method does work and it's a good video. If you live in an area like me, the Pennsylvania mountains, it is not nearly that easy.
Craig Eger any other methods?
you're awesome, I was stuck! I'm going to be the cool kid w the rotor trick next time thanks to you haha.
Thanks for the video, worked great! One side took ten hits the other side only two hits.
So glad I found this video I couldn't get this rotor off for nothing then tried it the way he did and in 4hits it came loose so thanks
You're welcome Rob!

Thank you for sharing us these tips.
Dude, thanks! I was going nuts trying to pound my rotor off.
Thanks. It worked. My neighbors thank you too.
Great vid Brian....I see what I did wrong, gonna try again using your described method...thanx
Nice advice. I tried it, but it didn't work. Mine was so rusted (Rochester, NY), that I had to use a crowbar behind the rotor, bang and rotate, until it finally let loose.
Thanks for sharing. Wish I would have found this before I wasted the last 2 hours.
You tell me- I'd hate to waste the opportunity to use a sledge. Mine's name is Lucy. I LOVE LUCY!
Way to go Anthony!
You're a bloody savior 🙏. Cheers mate
thanks for the help works great doing my first break job today on my 2004 f150 4x4
I love your videos they are so easy to follow and informative. Like this one, I've done rotors before, but it's always nice to learn new tricks. I've subscribed for sure.
Just saved us 10 mins, thanks bud!
I learned something today! Thank you very much
That is fricken awesome!!! I was so frustrated and watched your video. Three cracks and done. Thanks a lot

Worked great for me on my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 w/rear disc, one good hit and it was loose, thanks briansmobile1!!!
good tip on the threads
thanks alot brother i was about to tear something up.
Back the nuts off a turn or so and drive the vehicle slowly while steering rapidly from side to side. Worked for me.
DUDE best video, tried other things but this is the way to do it
+Nathan Fey Thanks Nathan! Did I earn your subscribification?
+briansmobile1 yup!
You're welcome- way to go!

Sledge hammer does it every time. Hasn't failed me in over 45 years.
cant get mine off, tried everything

Thank you, you saved my fiancé hours of frustration lol
Thanks--off to get a 3lb hand sledge--I think this will solve my problem. Thanks again !!

Make sure there's no screw that's in the face disallowing vibration to resonate.
