The moment when Malvolio drops the ring could have been enhanced with humor. Stephen Fry's performance was truly captivating and beautifully executed.

I went to see Twelfth Night last week, thoroughly enjoyed it, excellent performances all round and very funny. I had tickets for The Yard, an absolute bargain.

Too fast by modern standards, but probably very close to how it was played in the Globe.

@@billycaspersghost7528 no, no. I think most people that know this monologue would agree that she does quite an irreverent almost disrespectful job here.

Noooo I completely disagree! This speech has been done thousands of times before, she plays with the rhythm and pace for a fresh and extremely well delivered take. Michelle's Viola has a maturity about her - she understands exactly what went through Olivia's mind, being a woman who has no doubt had crushes on the first person to take her fancy in her youth (I mean she does it with Orsino, she understands the annoyance and the pain). Instead of being a vulnerable and emotional Viola, she is a wise and dignified woman who's job just got a whole lot more complicated due to a very unfortunate irony. When you've performed this speech as many times as Michelle, come back and watch how she explores and challenges the potential of the speech and the character. Shakespeare would be so so so boring if we kept speaking it the same way.

@@evawright5874but viola is described in the play as boyish, repeatedly. i would be fine w a mature viola if it was at all justified but terry's take here totally contradicts the character shakespeare wrote and mangles a bunch of the funny bits besides
