    The Philippines is about to reopen an PWR reactor in Bataan. It was closed after the Chernobyl accident. Now they're reopening it.

    I know the coolant in the primary and secondary circuits never mix, but does the coolant in the secondary circuit become radioactive? Also, how is Boron added/removed from the primary circuit?

      No. The heat is transferred to the water in the secondary circuit (feedwater) through heat exchanger tubes. Boron is removed from the primary circuit through manual maintenance and it is only added during emergencies through the emergency core cooling system.
