I'm half British, half Finnish and my grandfathers fought (technically) on opposite sides, but I'm obviously immensely proud of both. My Finnish family always spoke disparagingly about Ryssä and I have as a consequence always been very sceptical about their intentions. Finland suffered from decades of media manipulation even from within it's own broadcasters and newspapers. A malign influence that was, at that time denied, yet later proven. If anyone knows what Moscow is capable of, it's the Finns, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Poles and, of course, Ukrainians.
Russia has a firm grip on our media here in Canada as well... I'm sick and tired of hearing CBC radio news reports starting off with "Russia says..." Russia lies about everything... why do we repeat what they say? from Ontario, Canada, Slava Ukraïni!

The Russians already have been doing it for many decades. Like sending operatives to universities on student visas to influence future government employees. In fact, I know one in Canada who was a student and recruited by such operatives became communist in 1967, visited Moscow in 1968 where was recruited by KGB. And lately he has been spreading Kremlin's lies about Ukrainians. I'm certain he has been getting paid since he bragged about 2 luxury cars he purchased.

It is not totally true that the EU does not put money into countering disinformation. While it does not appear to have a counter disinformation unit, it does seem to fund such activities at a relatively low level through projects like Horizon However, I doubt that these projects are coordinated.

That's a shit idea. To basically force Ukraine into buyout. How would you feel if government came to your home forced you out and told you they would drip feed you the payment. That would be the fate of millions of Ukrainians not to mention that you could still move borders by force if you had the money to cover it.
