    Woah i was waiting for sheet music of this set, i always loved No.3 because of the earlier version of Hungarian Rhapsody S.244 No.1

    I love the No.6 very much, so different from the S.172 version, full of the romanticism and elegance...

      Felix Li-En Yeah, I was quite surprised at the differences!

    Though familiar, at the same time the former No. 6 feels remarkably distinct! This early version is thoroughly charismatic and suave, yet remains 'nonplussed' in all its resplendence. It is only after Liszt transposed the piece to the corresponding parallel major key that melodious gallantry and a more 'vivacious' temperament materialized in the revision, amazing!

    less is more, they say? only Liszt could rewrite such beautiful music into even more beautiful and concise pieces.

    I’ve listened to S172 for 4 years and didn’t even know these existed until today. Wow it’s shocking to hear these!

    One important difference between this earlier version and the definitive one is that this feels like a set of six entirely separate (albeit gorgeous) pieces, whereas S. 172 is a genuine (mini-)cycle, and benefits from being played as such. Pianists like France Clidat and Andrea Bonatta - to name two personal favorites - not only follow Liszt's cues to move seamlessly between pieces, but find a satisfying inner emotional arc to the whole work. Similar observations could be made about the transformation of early material in the Album d'un Voyageur taken into the Années de Pèlerinage and of the evolution of the various "states" of the Harmonies poétiques et religieuses to its final form.

      Yes, Liszt's revised versions of these Consolations are much better in my personal opinion, all but 6, which is a more delightful work in its first version.

    Its hard to believe this original version of No. 3 used to be a part of the 6 consolations. Its replacement is so different, but obviously matches its title much better than the early version. All other final versions of the remaining consolations are easier, less virtuosic, more to the point iterations of the original pieces, except for No. 3; that one is a whole different piece

    S.171a no.3 has an referance of Hungarian Rhapsody no.1 (S.244) and Magyar Rapszódiák no.23 9S.242)

    Could you explain further on Madrigal?

    • @TheModicaLiszt
      @TheModicaLiszt  3 года назад +4

      Madrigal is the title for an early version of the fifth consolation, and also sometimes people use it as a general title of the S.171a.
