This is EXACTLY how I classify a pressing as "audiophile" quality, excellent video. Our copy of Marquee Moon arrived today, immediately cleaned, & after dinner our 11 yr old & I were knee deep in a best of 3 Chinese Checkers match rocking this Rhino reissue. I caught him head nodding 1/2 way thru side A and 1 min into the title track, he said "Dad, I like this & it sounds awesome"...the head banging, hand drum, & air guitars continued well into side b. So maybe an additional guideline for your answering your question: if you can get a Gen Z tween to acknowledge the quality of a pressing, then it is probably "audiophile" LOL...love your channel.
I'm 53 y/o and have admired Television (and related) for over 30 years. As far as Marquee Moon goes, find a German red label Alsdorf pressing. This is the most balanced pressing of the several I currently own: US Butterfly, Japan green obi, KPG 2012 cut, US red.
Hi, love your channel. I've been back into vinyl for about 2 years now. I've bought UHQR KOB and Aja. Just fantastic sounding. The nice thing is, as you point out, with all the label doing audiophile pressings, we don't necessarily need to spend a ton of money for a great sounding. You mentioned Impex. I bought their pressing of Earth Wind and Fire's "That's the Way of the World". I think it was 35.00 and sounds fantastic. Thanks for this video, your passion and excitement for the hobby shines through. Best, Johnny K.
How would that Marquee Moon compare to my original UK pressing, which I bought when first released and kept in pristine condition, until boxed up in storage in 1981 ?
Stay away from colored vinyl. Ok I was waiting for something like that. Black vinyl is clear vinyl tinted black. Pink, green whatever color should not be an issue as long as the tinting process and dyes are high spec and if you are pressing high quality records all those bases should be covered.
I don't think people have a misconception about what an audiophile vinyl record is. I always thought it has always been pressings that were remastered and/or remixed to take advantage of the latest technology. There are are so many releases that are OG that sound fantastic, but to me aren't audiophile. Take for example, the David Crosby album "If I Could Only Remember My Name" which I bought in 1971. Many considered it an audiophile pressing at the time. I never really considered it that, but I thought it sounded great. I guess everyone has their own opinion.
You know what an audiophile record is?? That’s easy, any record that sounds good to you and you enjoy! Doesn’t have to be a 150 dollar UHQRS or a MoFi one step They are overpriced releases that audiophiles think they need A 25 dollar record can be audiophile if you like it!!
💯 percent! A lot of FOMO but sometimes folks don’t want to spend the time tracking down a mint original which I also understand. It’s all up to the consumer/collector in the end
Great recommendations here. 😎 I don't know who started the whole "Ahmet Ertegun's daughter" thing with the RL Led Zep II story, but the only problem with that is, Ahmet Ertegun never had a daughter... In fact, he never had any children at all! Lol. Oh well, anyway, great video. Rock on bro! 🤘
Sozo. Hate to waste the time but the Mac what model is that your using and your honest opinion of it? Just umming & Ahhing about upgrading and or supplementing Cheers
Howdy! The one behind me is a Mac6700. It’s a great all in one piece, MM and MC preamp built in along with balanced and optical inputs and a totally decent DAC under the hood. I highly recommend! Thanks for watching
The OG headhunters is not even close to the acoustic sounds 33.3 Chad did awesome job on this record sounds phenomenal. And if you're talking about audiophfile records the mofi is much better than the original dire straits Brothers in arms. Also the Stan Ricker half speed master is great.

Lucky with my German butterfly that dates about 1978...
Great video Josh!! Keep them rolling!!
Appreciate you watching! Thanks 🙏🏼
I really enjoyed this video. I have many of these records in my collection. I love that you showed that awesome Chicago record. 🤗 Take care.
The Chicago is an absolute MUST have! Thanks for watching and the kind words 🙏🏼
Excellent overview! Wish all artists would demand that their music be cared for through an audiophile-minded chain of production.
Agreed! Thanks for watching!

Probably more low end on the Rhino. Not unnatural but just the right amount. Still available on their site so go grab it!
I can't find the Rhino high fidelity vinyls in Europe. I have never heard of this series. 😲
They’re available through the Rhino online store ie. Direct only. Thanks for watching!
That Television record is just one of the greatest albums. Always in my top 10
Same! Great era for music with them and the Talking Heads coming out of CBGB
Looking forward to getting my copy from Rhino... Hopefully it doesn't take a month. 😬
@@R3TR0R4V3 took around 10 days for us to get ours. It’s fantastic!
I believe it was Ahmet erteguns niece. He didn’t have a daughter. We are under the impression there are possibly 100k+ roaming around out there.
There's one that lives around the corner from me he's always hanging around kids. We have to keep an eye on him.

Those Kudu’s and CTI’s all sound great! No DCC’s in my collection yet! You’re giving me “trigger finger” Josh. 😅
DCC’s have all been stellar! Best LA Woman by far and I’ve had a white label promo and the AP45
An audiophile is a rube who will shell out over a hundred dollars for a reissue of a record that already sounds great.

good video, ,i have that herbie hancock and that grover washington jr, albums, they sound good!
They really are! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
The Grover Washington, altho' has good sonics and recorded by RVG, the music is '70s kitsch...like car chase music from the TV series CHiPs.
That title track is pretty hot imo. Funky! Thanks for watching!
Yeah, not exactly as smooth as 'Winelight' :(
@@dhpbear2 Right!
Audiophiles listen to their hi-fi equipment first, not the music.
...not always..!

Early Chicago albums are FAR from soft rock! They were pretty hard Rocks till Terry Kath Died!
Exactly! Kath was the man 👏🏼
The Television record sounds great because of Andy Johns…. NOT the mastering engineer.
