Kinda reminds me of the C20 we got from my dad's uncle's place. What a mess! 292,3 speed trans,rust everywhere. They used it on the farm to feed tha cattle,so the flatbed was rusted out ,frame had holes big enough that you could put your fist through!

Freshen up the 350 and swap it in. Maybe change the cam for an RV/low rpm torque grind if you have the courage with the cams going flat. Should mate nicely with the 420.
An turbo atlas would be a great engine swap for something smaller like a c10 or even a car. This truck is just too big to put a bunch of power to and have fun.
change the gear oil and shes good to go. the 350 would be a good option, why not take the oil pan off the diesel and see what it is? if it is a broken rod as long as there isnt any major damage, would it be worth putting another rod in?

Drop the oil pan and look inside. Should be able to find used parts to make it run

I love the straight 6, A 292 would be cool. Is it? The crap on the head fell off the inside of the valve cover.

I just freshened up that 350, it's ready for a new home. It has junk heads, so a cam and some better flowing heads would really liven it up.

Sounds like you're buying another project then. I always liked the GM 4200 straight six, and think that it's overlooked.
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER TO LIFT THE CAB.
Pull the pan to confirm the 6.5 is really bad. if it is turbo the 6.2 and put it in.
Im going to dig into it and see. I don't want to give up on the diesel quite yet.
I agree with @vicwilton3754 drop the oil pan check out the damage you always have the opinion to put the 350 in .

Use the spare diesel engine until you figure out the other diesel engine. I’d rather do a 6.2 or 6.5 over a LS.

I'll probably end up opening it up and investigating what happend. I was just frustrated with the slow progress on this truck.
