I get psychogenic shivers in nearly every Band-Maid song. It’s like a music-drug they fiendishly inject into their music to keep you addicted… in a good way, of course. The first couple that come to mind at this moment are: Matchless Gum - the classical-like passage with that hunting chorus pedal and low bass effect just after the solo - especially the last two chords with the counter bass notes. It’s chilling; and, the way Saiki soulfully attacks the first word “ I “ in the last lines of the official Choose Me MV, “I cannot wait forever…” combined with the raw, tribal drum and funky bass pulls. Pure rock phrasing. She only does it in the official MV.
BAND-MAID have a sneaky way of having killer B-side songs that aren't included on their albums. "Hibana" being one. P.S don't turn your CD over to get the B-side :)
@@DeanF_MIDI HAHA😆 I was actually trying to get on the live chat with Panic & AMP at the premiere when my internet went down so my comment was late. Kudos to you Dean, you're the man👍
@@DavidMISAMISAMISACook Yeah but i had to stay up thru the night (drink may have been involved) to watch the acoustic show at 2am. It's not light here at the moment till 8:30am :(
#1. Love this live version, Ah, the awesome Saiki screech, 5:51 she flicks the mike on and off, and it just fits so well. little vocal flourish at the end, perfect. Saiki Really mellows out in this one. Kanami's one handed guitar work @ 4:46 : )
MISA MISA MISA! this was the biggest show AFTER the surgery (about 7 months after) the effect on her voice is one of 3 (I think) available on her Microphone
It could even be done by Saki. It's just a matter of switching the mic on and off. She could have done that with a switch on the mic or on a pedal. Then again, a sound engineer can do that as well.
Yaaaay an AMP reaction! This one is a good example of why I'm glad they're not afraid to use backing tracks live. It would stand on its own (especially with that off-tempo flanger/phaser part on the rhythm guitar and the scorching quality of Kanami's leads) but the extra stuff really creates a whole soundscape beyond being just embellishments.
Sign of a great band when each member plays completely different things and it all sounds amazing when it's played together. I'm close to sonic overload from Kanami on this one, but it's all good LOL The kill switch effect on Saiki's vocals are killer, used in the studio version as well and on H-G-K from Unseen World, damn cool effect.
Thanks for that. I've never heard the original recording and always wondered if it was a possible equipment failure on stage. The fact that the next words out of her mouth seem to be "One, two, three, four", the kind of thing you'd do for the engineer after picking up a new mic from your tech, only added to that.
I love this performance the more I listen to this song. Saiki's pre-surgery rasp perfectly matches the story of this song. Check the translation although there's always something lost in translation - you can still get the rough idea. All the effects and solos are so effectively used to 'tell' the song. So perfect. BTW I think Miku was singing in higher notes very softly.
This is, indeed, an unusual song from them, but so very cool for a lot of reasons. I just wish I knew what “Matchless Gum” is supposed to mean! Good reaction… you brought up some things I hadn’t noticed before. Kanami’s playing stands out for me on this one. But they’re all in top form through this whole concert, IMO.
They have talked about that in interviews... Possibly "Matchless Gum" might also be understood as "superior adhesive qualities" - but what apparently happened was that Saiki had a talk with Miku about writing a song about a certain subject dear to her heart, and one she can apparently discuss freely with Miku. That's how Saiki got a writing credit for the lyrics for this song along with Miku. It's an inside description of what it feels like to experience total physical compatibility with another person, to just be overwhelmed by it. And Miku has confirmed that, yes, this should absolutely 100% be understood in a sexual sense. So it's Miku and Saiki going for an interpretation of what it feels like to have really good sex. :) (Of course it wouldn't be Band-Maid - likely Miku as a surprisingly shrewd and often rather stark observer of the affairs of the human heart - if the lyrics didn't also contain a serpent in the grass, a nagging question if this overpowering feeling can really be relied on? Since it is an old observation that this kind of feeling of complete compatibility might also occur with someone who is in every other conceivable way 100% wrong for you.)
I know this is old school, but it sounds like a talk box like Frampton used to use. It's clearly on the backing track and not performed live, though. Talk boxes are cool. They take the guitar sound, push it through a tube, which the performer puts into their mouth, so the sound bounces around in there before coming out into the mic.
Kanami has a dozen or so effects pedals and her demo for Morley showed she understands the technology completely. In addition her PRS 408 guitar has 8 different tones. All in all they can modify sound at will.
Great song, and yep it's different but by now we should expect the unexpected. That part where the sound cuts in and out on Sai-chan's vocals is my favorite part of the song, along with Mincho's wild-ass guitar solo!! Love it when they get crazy. In fact, I'd like to propose and extended psychedelic version of this song because that skipping vocals part always reminds me of the inimitable Arthur Brown on his album Galactic Zoo Dossier, in the song "Creation" - you have to listen to the whole album to appreciate, but he does the same thing at about the 2 minutes and ten seconds mark of the song - link is ruclips.net/video/MGA3fGFmguo/видео.html
It's about impossible to wrap your brain around everything going on in a Maidtune the first time around. I like focusing on MISA, but i always get washed out to the sea by the rest of what's happening.
It’s so crazy. I betrayed Puzzle and Moratorium for Alone and Daydreaming. Now I again betrayed these songs, and now I’m in No God and Matchless Gum, as my all time favourites from this best in the world group. What will be next, I have no idea. Just recently I was in Take me Higher. It’s really an endless story.
Amp, in my opinion this song is a bit experimental with some asymmetry in the composition and it moves like smoke through the horizon. I find it very organic and free and I am fascinated by Saiki with Miku structuring the 'wall' with the tone of her guitar sustained and the bucle of the composition when it seems lost. Amazing as BAND MAID show us that they are in permanent evolution. They create living organisms in a particular universe. Top composition.
"I don't know how I feel about that." --- A common reaction to a Band-Maid song.
"I don't know how I feel about that." Band-Maid doing Band-Maids things!

Nice to see you again reacting to Band-Maid... I love this song.👍
7:48 - It's a voice effect found on the studio version also.
That's really cool and unique for them
This is why Band Maid is at the top of the pyramid. You never know what they are going to do. And it’s always good.

The Stutter Effect on Saiki's vocal was probably don by the engineer at the board. That's the wonder that is 'Matchless Gum'.

Exactly the same than a killswitch on a guitar

Another one of Band-Maids hidden gems!
To me, the synth sounds like a sample of someone screaming 'No, no, no, no"
But maybe that's just my ears ;)
they use that stutter effect on Saiki's voice on one of the tracks on Unseen World .I forget which one

It’s unfortunate that your mic is so low in the mix to be barely audible 😔
Oh, so Mecha-Saiki started to glitch. They'll play Onset next while she gets a fast charge :-)
When I first listened to this, it "laid me down" too. STONE. True? : D
Just Band Maid doing Band Made things.
Your growing keep it up uncle. Also you were a bit muffled, so I would recommend some sort of mic, like a blue yeti or something similar.
Guy at the mixing desk mutes and unmutes Saiki's vocal channels really fast. Can be automatically done in ProTools or other DAWs.
Or Saiki is just turning her mic off and on.repeatedly which makes more sense to me since it’s easier and gives her control of the effect.
