Same here. The performance Dudley Moore gave and also his interaction with Sir John Gielgud in this film might be the greatest comedic relationship ever. Arthur is definitely in my top three comedies of all time. It's in my top 10 films of all time. Every line mattered, and void of wasted dialogue.
"You're the weakest man I have ever known. I despise your weakness." Dudley Moore's stare back after this insult momentarily shows how tragic and even abusive this father-son relationship is.
When I was young I loved this film. When I went to college I’d watch it after a night out. It touched me in a way not many other films can. The performances from Dudley, Gielgud, Liza and the supporting cast, were great.
One of my favorite movies. Dudley Moore was a National Treasure. A brilliant actor. "Don't you hate Perry's wife!" Lol..Miss him. I love it when Hobsen defends him out in the waiting room..
I have always wondered where their fortune came from? I mean the last name is Bach are they some how related to the composer or that simply a coincidence?
I loved that part with Susan. God, she was boring..lol. "Waiter..! My Doctor said I must have 10 drinks an hour" "Susan..do you mind if I take you home now? I have a headache.."😂😂
"We're all criminals, Arthur; and, as you probably know by now, we usually get what we want." IF ONLY ALL RICH CAPITLISTS WERE THAT HONEST!!! THE BEST LINE FROM THE MOVIE!!!
I don't believe "ALL" rich capitalists are criminals. I am sure some of them worked hard legally to obtain their wealth. Being wealthy doesn't make one a criminal. Being dishonest does.
@@jameseubanks379No..it was funny..which is when Linda looked at him..looked at Arthur and said "I like him!" 😂😂 As well as "Don't you hate Perry's wife?"
This scene is so sad😢 and how his father tries to manipulate him with the money. If he doesn’t marry Susan than the family cuts him off. Hobson knew Arthur loved Linda and not Susan and when Hobson was dying he told Arthur in his own way you have to do what makes him happy 😊.
he had martinis in the bath tub then pours scotch at his father's office all b4 noon ..... and I get bitched at for having 4 beers after a 10 hr shift 5 days a week
I couldn't understand Bert Johnson. On the one hand he describes his daughter as his jewel, his treasure, etc, yet he wants her to get married to Arthur, a drunken playboy? He knows what Arthur is like.
His father shouldn't force him to marry someone who he doesn't love. Susan was a royal brat who hid behind her crazy father. No wonder Arthur was drinking

Not biologically. Just symbolically, then emotionally. They were each the closest thing either had to a meaningful father-son relationship. There’s no cut lines or scenes from the 1981 screenplay to suggest otherwise. So, when they deliver these lines, Hobson says what Arthur needs to hear; while later, Arthur speaks from feelings, rather than from accuracy.
Arthur is drinking Glenlivit, a brand of scotch whiskey. Prior to this office appearance, he was consuming martinis in his bathtub, likely made with gin (Arthur doesn't seem like the vodka type) Long story short, he's very drunk. Well, maybe he has the tolerance, but that much alcohol would likely subdue/kill your average drinker. :))
He wasn't in love with her. A life long commitment and relationship isn't all about looks and money. Looks go away with age, money can come and go like the snap of two fingers. True love lasts. That's the point of the movie.
If I ever feel stressed or like the World is too serious, I watch Dudley Moore and he cheers me up 😁

“Burt Johnson? He’s a criminal!”
(Scoffs) “we all are, Arthur…”
Super authentic dialogue of the elite.
My fav movie
Epic! Everything about this production is perfect! RIP Sir Dudley Moore! You will NEVER be forgotten! Ever!
I love Dudley Moore!!!! He is such a talented man. Actor, comedian, pianist, composer, among other things. I miss him
This scene perfectly explains why Arthur drinks.
I love dudley Moore. He was adorable. I wish he was still alive. RIP dudley.

A good example of how money by itself really won’t make you happy.

I love this scene also when his father says Millionaire Drunk Playboy lol😂
Looking for the scene where the butler opens door to his moms and says walk this way and Dudley mimics the walk of butler.
The best part of this scene is when his father says Millionaire Drunk Playboy LOL😂
This was the movie that made me realize that toxic family relationships are unhealthy and not worth the heartache.
Except $700M tho...

Back when $750 million was a huge fortune!
In the remake, it'd have to be $100 billion or it wouldn't be credible.
This is such an accurate description of the way family’s with great wealth conduct their affairs.
Bless dear Dudley .. what a lovely person
You can't always depend on that lite lmao ...
