How to Build a GFDT (for Discrete Data) Using Excel's =COUNTIF(·) Function

  • This brief video demonstrates how to build a Grouped Frequency Distribution Table (GFDT) using Excel. The function doing the work is the =COUNTIF(·) function. However, there is a bit of Excel syntax that is also introduced, namely the string concatenation operator “&”. First, a random data set is created. Next, the lower and upper class limits for the discrete values are calculated. A cumulative GFDT is created first, and finally, the (absolute) GFDT is reverse-calculated from the cumulative table.
