If ever in one Concert that there is either Deen or Jason singing as an extra lead to help out, why not? Why? see below.. Usually, on Journey's Concert -there were 19 songs all together on their List therefore 16 of them were sung by Arnel Pineda with those high notes difficult Journey songs! As usual, some bashers out there are waiting for AP to fail- and dissecting every song of AP all the time !! -- Unfortunately, there are millions of people around the world who want to see Journey with AP and fill the venues of massive crowds each time of Concerts !!! - So, with that handful of bitter bashers out there-- common, !! LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE BITTER! . It's NOT good for your health to be always hateful of others all the time! Look at the brighter side-- and the world will be kind to you! Don't spread hate! BTW---thanks to AP for keeping the legacy of Journey alive for many years ( From 2007--2022 ~ 15 years and counting !! Amazing, isn't it? ! What dedication to the band! So, for bashers out there-it is just foolish to even hope for changing a frontman like AP who is doing wonderfully well with Journey... To get another Journey frontman may mean a very bad move-- to train what AP is doing now-??? My goodness !! N Schon and J Cain are NOT stupid to gamble to replace AP at this stage! Agreed. It had been sounding great a 1/2 step down for years now. They don't need to push it with standard tuning. He sounded fatigued here. Still good, but you can tell they were pushing Arnel too much. Ridiculous.
As a singer myself, I can feel for Arnel. That repertoire is very challenging. But I know John Dagostino from the band Chain Reaction has the voice for this. His Lyric Tenor natural voice is so similar to Perry's it's uncanny.
Its impressive af that Arnel can belt journey in the original key after all these years. 13 years of constant touring. 🔥 you try to front journey and sing all their songs for 13 years straight and still be able to sing the songs in key! Neal Schon says he's like a robot.
I really hope Arnel rest his voice during this tour cancellation. He has such a strong voice, but it seems like it about to give. I admire him so much and would hate for this to happen.

Mike Stamper they have been performing last year none stop. They had a concert in Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, NY Madison, San Diego I went to watch that concert, New Jersey, San Francisco and many more.
I like Steve Smith, but he doesn't seem to have the enthusiasm as Dean does on drums. Maybe it's just me but Dean seems to be more into it by singing alot of the songs, and doing a few solo's
Steve perry set the bar high with vocals, so high that even with age he can’t even hit those notes! Journey is one of those bands that goes down in history as the greatest band, so good that nobody could touch Steve’s vocals, i feel like Arnel is slowly losing it! He was a great candidate tho, he was the best replacement for Steve
Drew Mckee Deen’s better than Arnel and closest vocally to Steve Perry. Steve Perry can still sing the songs half key to key lower now and sound great and he can hit higher notes than any of these cover singers.

Agree! The band tours relentlessly and the songs are still sung in the same key. It’s actually amazing Ariel has lasted as long as has. None of the singers after Perry has been able to keep. The band has a residency in Vegas coming up. Let’s hope staying put and the slightly smaller venue will give Arnel’s voice a break. But kudos to Journey for being the consummate professionals.
It's time. Just the natural course of life for a Journey singer. It's so apparent...He's terribly strained to hit the high notes; Pitch is way off. Never been a fan of his phrasing. There are Tribute bands who now sound better. Only one solution - Deen!!

bandaid joanjett69 SP was the master and a better singer than AP in his prime. He was also 37 when he stopped touring with Journey. AP is 52. Is he straining? Yep. But he sounds incredible for a man in his 50s singing this catalog.
If he had total control he wouldn't have had rasp by Raised on Radio tour. This repertoire of music IS vocal suicide regardless the singer and technique if it's done with the frequency that Journey tours. Perry couldn't keep up, Augeri couldn't, and arnel is unfortunately suffering through an hour and a half of singing in a grueling high tessitura, all the while trying to keep a beautiful tone.

Both singers ....its a job that was a big step in his life and has kept this band still rolling .....I guess not seeing either live, I have never really got that aspect of this , only studio version..but still would live to see them live ...thank you for your insight ....it never hurts to learn something new every day ..

Gene Taylor go watch Ken Tamplin the vocal coach, he has a video on adding rasp to the vocals If you listen to SP on the non r&b songs, he doesn’t add the rasp. When he toured in 1994 FTLSM tour he didn’t have rasp singing the Journey songs. That’s what great singers do. He said in numerous interviews on Street Talk that he sang lower register and used different vocal characters for those solo songs vs. tuning his voice high to Schon’s guitar. ROR was r&b. Perry’s voice is smooth on 2018 ”Were Still Here.”

Really hard to sing those songs on a daily bases. Don't know if Arnel was sick or something. But very different voice from last tour.
