I've tried to make that work, but the results from Photomatix are always look better to me. I've also experienced really strange artifacts when merging images with very dramatic differences in lighting. If I need to edit photos extremely fast I'll use the Lightroom HDR but it's not my preferred method. The ability to adjust white balance after merging is very nice though
