The ankle tap will always be the funniest type of tackle in rugby to me, the way you think you could just get away and all of a sudden you’ve lost balance and your headed towards the ground at an incredible speed, always gets me 🤦🏾♂️ 😂
Cracking selection Mr F., and Mrs stringer is probably feeling very proud.
Stringer was an absolute demon at the old tap-tackle, wasn’t he? 🤯
Yes
Absolute artisan. The skill, and the timing. Beautiful to watch. A masterclass... Peter Stringer. 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪 No. 9.
Even before watching I knew that Stringer would feature at some point. The master of the tap.
Master of the rucks and the scrums too he was like a ferret.. In one side of the scrum or maul and out of other side with the ball in his hand.!
I see him regularly as his brother lives near me
@@jamesmacoisdealbhaigh9904 PLLL
peter ankle tap stringer legend
Another great video man, well done.
When stringer sees an ankle he goes from 5'7 to 7'5
Another cracking compilation Andrew 👏👏. No surprise to see more than one Stringer clip - the ankle tap was his secret weapon.
I clicked on this fully expecting to know every video but I should have guessed that if there was one person on God's green earth capable of showing me clips of tap tackles I had NOT seen, it would be mister Forde.
From France : continue you re the best youtuber for rugby
Top quality video, I love all the random but amazing videos like this!
I found this video again to share on Facebook (probably a waste of time) to prove that it is a great skill. Sone clowns are calling for it to be banned after Faf de Klerk made a few in the 2023 WC. Love your work.
Great vid man!💪🏻
Great video as always. In Brazil we call it "Tackle Francês", which means "French Tackle", so for me it is always kind of ironic seeing someone using them against France. And I have to say, it is such a beautiful piece of skill that is not mentioned enough.
But France don't do it ahah
In France we call it "une cuillère" wich means " a spoon"
you just keep delivering man!
Great video such a tough skill. Someone did this to me once as I crossed the line in sevens. I was furious as it felt like a slide tackle. Felt sheepish when a teammate told me it was an ankle tap
Amazing video yet again
The Springboks, two ankle taps against Lomu, no wonder he never scored against them, like Achilles, they knew he had only one weakness.
Ankle taps get everyone and it was the only way to bring Lomu down
brilliant! What a treat to watch! ^^
Surely the Beauden Barrett one to deny Willie Le Roux in Joburg around 2014ish should've been included! That was the best one ever!
Completely agree but sadly I can’t use Rugby Championship footage as Sanzaar will take the video down. I wish it wasn’t the case but they don’t reply to any of my emails!
@@AndrewDavidForde fair enough then. Love your compilations. Keep up the great work
@@kieransteele5953 Cheers man! Really appreciate your kind words!
Yep the Boks could have won that match if Barret didn't tap Le Roux. Of the nearly 100 matches played between the Boks and All Blacks that match was one of the best . Nine tries were scored in that game, it could have been ten.
You've left Beauden Barrets one, thats a real good one two. Top 3
That is definitely up there as one of the best tap tackles ever, however, I'm unable to use Rugby Championship footage as Sanzaar will take the video down if I do. I wish it wasn't the case but they never reply to my emails!
Can’t believe you didn’t put beauden Barrett in this video??!!!!!😲
That is definitely up there as one of the best tap tackles ever, however, I'm unable to use Rugby Championship footage as Sanzaar will take the video down if I do. I wish it wasn't the case but they never reply to my emails!
LOLLLLLLLL
Barret vs le roux
That was very satisfyingly beautiful!
R.I.P Jonah Lomu, A fellow Kiwi he was. One of the best Kiwi rugby players ever.
In spanish speaking countries we call it "the french tackle" (el tackle frances or francesa)
But as you see every team do it but no France
Stringer is the 👑
No matter how big Lomu was, he still had ankles
George North is bigger.
@@locominyana8916 Lomu: 196cm, 119kg. North: 194cm, 109kg. And anyway, what does this have to do with Jonah Lomu having ankles?
Richard Owen Maybe he’s referring to something else
@@MarkWhippy ...also has nothing to do with Jonah Lomu having ankles.
All of these are great, but nothing tops Fillol's tap tackle on Fritz in 2005 (really hurts to say that as a Toulouse fan) !
Peter stringer King of ankle tap.
That ankle tap is brutal. Maximum effect minimun damage.
Beautiful tackles
Playing rugby growing up we called this tackle the stringer in Ireland(still growing up)
I once tap tackled a guy from a rival school inches from a touchdown, the coach was so impressed this were his words, "thats how you fucking play", he doubled as our school priest
Was immaterial to the final score, but Brown's on North or Cuthbert in 2013 was about the only highlight for England that game. Parling and Swiel absolutely top tier.
Where’s Beauden Barrett vs The springboks (Willie le roux)???
That is definitely up there as one of the best tap tackles ever, however, I'm unable to use Rugby Championship footage as Sanzaar will take the video down if I do. I wish it wasn't the case but they never reply to my emails!
Jah
Where is beauden barretts ankle tap against south africa willie le roux
That is definitely up there as one of the best tap tackles ever, however, I'm unable to use Super Rugby footage as Sanzaar will take the video down if I do. I wish it wasn't the case but they never reply to my emails!
I can’t think of a bigger flex than saying that you tap tackled Jonah Lomu
1:38 he's in touch
#5 “close to the touch line” No, he was in touch
Anckle taps in world cups are definitely bad memories for us in France...
If you can anticipate the ankle tap, a goose step will escape it. Joe Rokococo for the All Blacks was a master at dodging the ankle tap with his goose step
Lotta Ireland on England action in here. Sore ankles in those camps
Epic in slow motion
I love a good ankle tap 😂🇦🇺
Strange how videos from as recently as 2001 have that old reel look to them.
Tap tackles are deep 😂
From experience, I can honestly say, the ankle tap is the hardest tackle to make in rugby😂
I hate it so much you just feel your boots smack together and your gone
1:38 lol
After Rassie ankle tapped Lomu, poor old Chester didn't stand a chance lool!
Those we ankle taps were Peter Stringers speciality
Why am I crying 😂😂😂
Looks like it was the best way to stop Lomu without injuries back in the days.
Agustín pichot vs France 2007 rwc opening match, marvellous tap tackle. U should whatch it
😭 Watching your videos mocking either saracens or their players Andrew has really helped cheer me up 🙂 after the saracens match especially the Owen Farrell clips there That match is like Donald trump being reelected Neil Francis said before the match even though me nor Neil are american though🇺🇲🇺🇸 I swear I cried😭 after that match and that match nearly made me want to never play rugby again🏉 My physchologist though Andrew should prescribe me your videos as medicine for my mental health
Barrett chasing down Le Roux
Sadly I can’t use Rugby Championship footage as Sanzaar will take the video down. I wish it was different but they don’t reply to any of my emails!
Yeah they are pricks. Always flagged squidge too
@@AndrewDavidForde Wow. Didnt know that re SANZAAR. but how come you can feature Weepu, Lomu etc then?Yes, when I saw the ankle tap headline, Beaudie immediately was on my mind. Some other great examples in there though
Cheez, even back in 1996 making New Zealand play Griquas in Kimberley is brutal scheduling. That field is bone dry, has made many from the bigger provinces in SA cry. Can not think what the All Blacks thought when they arrived in the desert to play rugby. Think of rusted corrugated iron sheeting 😢
15 top. 10s
Agustín Pichot on Cedrik Heymans at the opening match of 2007 RWC.
Gwan Strings!!
So that’s why Lomu never scored a try against South Africa
I love unkle taps
What happened to Sarto v Joseph from the thumbnail?
I believe it was a missed tackle, but it was the best quality picture I could find illustrating what a tap tackle looks like!
Andrew Forde ah my mistake. Still a great video 👌
J McN cheers man!
1:57 my god how is the player at the right is fast
In NZ we call that ankle tap.
We call this "une cuillère" (a spoon) in France.
Finally, the only way to stop Lomu is a tap-tackle
B.Barrett on Willy Leroux?
Sadly I can’t use Rugby championship footage as Sanzar will take the video down. If it wasn’t the case, I’m sure that would have been in the video.
Andrew Forde too bad awesome vid though 😁
Do a part 2 pliz
Barrett on Le Roux? Has to be on the list.
That is definitely up there as one of the best tap tackles ever, however, I'm unable to use Rugby Championship footage as Sanzaar will take the video down if I do. I wish it wasn't the case but they never reply to my emails!
Look Jerome Fillol on Florian Fritz.
That is why you have to run with high knees 😂
Where was Barrett against south africa in 2013
Stringer Lomu??
That wasn’t a tap tackle!
Anyone who plays rugby (I don't!) - what does it feel like to be running full pelt and then get tap tackled like this? Does it hurt?
From basking in pre-try glory as you scythe through the opposition, to a sudden tornado of grass, knee-cap skin, mouth-fulls of dirt and opposition’s snickering ... yeah, it hurts!
Answering your question, no. It doesn't hurt, it's like if you were stumbling to the ground while running... with a ball. The grass helps to have a smooth fall, dirt and mud will give you the classic superficial wound on the knee(s). No bruises, no dirt in the mouth unless you don't know what equilibrium is and don't know how to fall (judo can help in that matter). And talking about how it feels like.... It's amasing. Running, tackling, helping, improvising, playing by the many but logic rules, everything gives you adrenaline and it's like having a trip with your squad having the mission to reach the score line and solidarity is key. That's why when one scores a try all the team feel the satisfaction like if it was theirs. After a game you do go home with no energy maybe a little bruise here and there, or just feel destroyed but happy.
It hurts your pride.
Snapped my collarbone clean in half on the landing.
How on Earth did the lineout at 4:25 not get blown up? That's just about the least straight lineout I've ever seen in a professional match.
Your just missing jiffy's tap on Guscott as he went up the wing
y Pichot vs france?
Called an ankle tap
Andrew As a die hard leinster fan I am furious after the match against saracens so I was wondering could you do a saracens anti tribute please or something
Im just watching
Ankles taps were the tackle of choice for cowards like I was except bit difficult to execute when the bloke is running straight at you.
Tap tackle is not forbidden ??
Nope
I feel like that’s never used in Football (NFL)... Super effective... !
Why didn't may just get up and walk in
Where's Ben Smith's one?
So Lomu can only be ankle tapped lmao
Ioane va Argentina (2017-2018)
That is definitely up there as one of the best tap tackles ever, however, I'm unable to use Rugby Championship footage as Sanzaar will take the video down if I do. I wish it wasn't the case but they never reply to my emails!
And I would love a tribute for Rob kearney and Fergus McFaddenn now that they are both leaving Leinster

Beauden vs le roux was way better
Yep but sadly I can’t use Rugby Championship footage as Sanzaar will take the video down. If it wasn’t the case then I’m sure that particular tackle would have been in the video.
Andrew Forde ok
This dude missed a lot of good ankle taps.... Brent Russell try vs australia and Bauden Barret /Willie le Roux

The fact that you can trip with your hands but not your feet is just nonsense.
Classic tripping technique (which is basically same ankle tap but executed by your foot) doesn't hurt, near everyone did it to friends just for fun in young age. But if you hit the opponent SUPPORTING leg (when it ON THE GROUND), you can break the ankle or cause other injury. It's too complex for referees (without using video equipment) to make difference, such any foot tripping is banned. As opposed to it, hands are too weak to injure legs and "hand tripping" is allowed.
None of them are tackles, they are just ankle tapping
Esos no son tacles 😑😒 tacles es cuando se va al cuerpo completo...
This is not rugby it must be a foule
Tap tackles are illegal : "A player must not charge or knock down an opponent carrying the ball without attempting to grasp that player."
You’re grasping their ankle aren’t you? And that rule is about shoulder charges, not tap tackles.
@@stevenmcalister826 No, you are not grasping the ankle.
And the rule is not "about shoulder charges", it's a rule...
@@vermeervanbremen3306 if it was illegal then people would get penalised for it. I can confidently say that has never happened ever.
@@stevenmcalister826 "if it was illegal then people would get penalised for it" : the argument would be valid in any other sport. But we are talking about rugby...
@@vermeervanbremen3306 my point still stands
Parling's was more than an ankle tap; he took the whole lower body out
First
Beaten ya to it xD
