Futakataya
Singing bowl workshop established in 1843. Futakataya's Singing bowls are metal sounding bowls made from the same material as Sahari, a Shosoin treasure that has existed for 1,300 years.
Only one orion can be made from a single mould, and the entire process takes 180 different steps over a long period of time.
The process begins with the selection of the clay, the condition of the metal, the mixture, the temperature of the mould out of the pot, the timing of casting, the season, the weather, the humidity and the temperature - if any of these factors are missed, the tone will not sound.

Japanese craftspeople always leave me in awe; such refined results with apparently primitive technology is a lesson for us all. Care and dedication to detail bring beauty in objects and spiritual elevation manifested by the final ring of the bowl. Thank you for the lesson.

@@ScottRedstone This is a company founded in Japan that features over 235 traditional registered Japanese crafts. The crafts people traditionally hand these traditions down from parent to child. This company has been producing these bowls in Japan for over 170 years unchanged. They were also speaking Japanese when they were lifting the form together. Why would you assume these makers aren't Japanese? This is a family business of traditional family crafts. These bowls are used in Shrines in Japan.
What an interesting sound that singing bowl has. Never heard one before but it immediately relaxed me. Don’t know why. Had to replay it being struck. Love the sound.

I have three old ones. The first one I bought in a shop in Paris that many in the window but I only saw one, my one, smallish and perfect. A second one I found in a charity shop for pennies. The third one is more Tibetain.

This is awesome! Can you imagine what it was like thousands of years ago making these completely by hand? No lathes back then. Just an incredible amount of hammering and forming. It was truly an art. These are machine made outside of mold making and pouring. 😊🙏🏼
It does look good seeing the outside being lathed. It’s kinda hypnotic.

I’ve always wondered how much their business bolsters with the exposure of this channel.
I get a kick out of how they do everything the “traditional way” using processes that could all be done much easier and faster……..and then just use a lathe with an electric motor to finish it anyways🤣 that’s not what I was expecting
It was the first time I saw how to make orin.
It is a sacred Buddhist instrument, and its clear sound soothes the soul.

By just judging by eye when putting it in the lathe and no indicator. They do good work.
My mother was Japanese - Akimoto clan related to the Emperor.
When she died, my father took her home and she is with her ancestors in the family "plot". The Buddhist monks look after her and the family.
When my father returned to the States, I eventually inherited her altar. (It's supposed to go to the first born son - but he's an idiot stick. 2nd born son was to young to have it, so it was passed to me - the daughter.)
There is a brass bell that I am supposed to ring to let my mother know that she is still respected.
That bell is about 40 years old and it still rings true to this day. It is a beautiful sound, nothing like I've ever heard in the States.

Right before this video I watched an Indian manufacturing process for aluminum pressure cooker pots. What a difference. Clean, organized, calm, measured. Pressure cooker was noisy, unsafe, extremely dirty, years of rubbish and filth

おりんを手作業で加工している女性の方、切削加工時には切削破片が目に入る危険性が有ります、加工対象が見ずらいのはわかりますが、防護メガネをして下さい、失明してからでは遅いですよ。
同じく怖かったです。
恐らく長い間やってきて大丈夫という経験則からだとは思いますが、研削作業では完全同一素材でも鋳物である限り何処にスがあるかもわかりませんし、切粉だけではなく、工具が跳ねる可能性もある為、とても怖かったです。

I'm worried about the woman. She isn't wearing any eye protection, and just one of those tiny slivers of metal could fly into one of her eyes and leave her permanently blind. Even an ordinary pair of sunglasses would be *some* protection.

work out how long each operation will take then multiply that by 10. Add in unnecessary procedures then duplicate hand operations very slowly. Check every movement carefully then call it an art and sell to people with too much money to know better.
