Sarah, beautiful video, glad I found you. You have a beautiful collection of cards. Am a photographer wanting to start an online business. This was v insightful. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I've been doing a lot of research in the hopes of starting my own greeting card business, and your video covered SO many aspects I haven't come across in other videos/resources. I love how you're trying to maintain a balance between practicality but also adding heart to your products. Your shop looks amazing too! Thank you so much, I feel more empowered to start having gotten this information! Thank you
Thanks for sharing this video, Sarah! I especially appreciated how you thought out your plastic use and how your decisions evolved over time. Since you mentioned the envelope colours, I've always wondered how you go about choosing your colour palettes for your designs? They always go together so well! Thanks!
Yah the plastic thing is hard…! I was doing some research and even the “compostable” ones aren’t actually compostable in residential garbage (you have to compost it at an industrial site or something)! So the regular plastic sleeves seem better because at least it’s recyclable. For colours… I think it’s a weakness! I just go off of inspiring photos or I Google search palettes haha! Thanks Vanessa.
Thank you for sharing! I appreciate the thought and care that goes into your packaging. What size padded mailer do you use for mailing a boxed greeting cards? Thanks!
Hi Sarah ! I have had a home business for three years and I want to add prayer cards and gift cards as additional products. I design patterns as well and although customers can download the digital form, my reviews tell me they enjoy the physical products much more. I am so glad I found your videos. The information you have here is so important. I thank you so much. I know you say you are using plastic sleeves. Would cellophane be more environmentally friendly? Or are they the same? Just a thought. I just got my Uline catalog so I’ll be looking for all your packaging suggestions. You are such a joy to watch and listen to. And your art is fantastic!
Thank you! I’m not sure about cellophane actually. It’s plant-based though right? I’ll take a look! I just rly love the bags I’m using right now from Clearbags and they work well into my workflow! But always on the lookout!
This video is really helpful - thank you! I noticed you don't have barcodes on the back of your cards (but you do have SKU), I was wondering why you decided not to go with barcodes?
I guess I just didn’t feel like I had enough products to justify barcodes and a reader! The SKUs are necessary anyway for me to quickly see :) But def a future consideration. Thank you
Hi Sarah! Thank you for sharing this video--SO helpful! I'm thinking about starting a little side hustle with greeting cards and had a few questions. When you first started your business, did you start on your own website or on etsy? How many products/listings did you have on your shop when you first started? Also, more related to this video, where did you get the labeled stickers / packing tapes? I would really appreciate it if you could answer these questions :D THANK YOUUU!!!
Thank you so much!!!! I have another question more about shipping--how do you print the shipping labels? do you purchase them from shopify? do you print these shipping labels for every order? Thank you!!
@@jimjimineeeGreat question! I actually wonder how others do it. I have a thermal shipping label printer and I print them out one by one on Stallion Express (it's a courier that I use where I live). It's hard for me to batch shipping labels because every order I get is so different in size and weight
Sarah, I will watch more of your videos, but can you tell me: do you print offset or digital? What weight paper do you print on? Thank you so much. This video was extremely helpful!
Do you number your designs to keep track of the orders? For example, if a customer orders multiple cards, how does the customer choose the design and you make sure you ship the correct product? Is the card number on the back with your information? Also, do you make your own envelopes? Finally, did you start out printing your own cards?
Hi Mylah! I actually am not 100% sure as I don't have them anymore but they were just a little bigger than the A2 size bags (both in height and weight) to accommodate the thicker pile of cards :)
@@bysarahkim Thank you so much, I have loved your videos and they have definitely helped me get of the ground being a Canada based business. I was just telling my husband I wish she knew how much her videos were so helpful to me! Thank you for always sharing.
I’m so thankful I found you. I combine scripture and art and just had someone ask for cards. I have never even considered cards before! 😊
I'm glad it helped! :) Yes cards are such an awesome and simple product!
That was a great watch! Perfect lunch break accompaniment ☺️☺️
Aw Lisa thank you!
As always, great info, thanks for sharing. Not many artists out there like to share their process so thanks for that :).
Thanks for watching Bev! Glad it was helpful!
I always enjoy watching your packing videos, and how thoughtful you are with it. And it's even better receiving one of your packages in the mail!
Thank you D :)
Thank you so much for all of this!
Thanks for watching :)
You are so generous! Thank you, Sarah!
Hi Sarah, I hope you don’t mind me asking, but do you print your own label stickers for your boxes sets? Or do you outsource them?
I'm a graphic designer and I've wanted to do greeting cards as a side hustle for years now. Thanks so much for all of the useful information!
Thanks for all the information you provided
I've watched this video several times now, and it helps me in different ways every time. Thank you! :)

I’m sooo happy to hear you feel empowered! Thanks for saying that!!
So you know, cellophane bags are not plastic. They are cellulose, which is plant based, so you can use them guilt free. 🙂
Thanks Daniel!
Really?!!! Wow! That is awesome! 😊❤ Thank you! ❤
Wow thank you so much for sharing this information! Really appreciate the time invested. Great video! 🙏🏻

Love this thank you, How would you package 3d box cards?
Hi! I use cardboard boxes from ULINE (the mailers) :)
Very good information 👏
Hello! Your packaging looks amazing! I'm curious what printer you use for your greeting cards?
Hi Kailyn! I try to find a local printer that can do offset and digital printing :)
This video is really helpful - thank you! I noticed you don't have barcodes on the back of your cards (but you do have SKU), I was wondering why you decided not to go with barcodes?

Cellophane bags are derived from wood and they can be composted.
Thanks for the clarification

Hi Jimin! That’s amazing. I started on Etsy but had a Squarespace. Now I’m on Shopify. I only started with about 8-12 cards but quickly expanded.
For the stickers, I think these ones were from Stickercanada or Stickeryou!

Hi! I do a mix of both but switching to more digital these days to get smaller batches. Paper weight is 100 :)
@@bysarahkim thank you 👍
I came across this video and was very informative. What program do you use to design your cards?
I'm glad! I use Adobe InDesign to do all my graphic design, but also a bit of Photoshop and Illustration when needed for graphics :)

Yes
Hi! All my products have a SKU and yes they’re printed on each card. I don’t make my own envelopes and no, I always outsourced my cards!
Nice. what weight coverstock are your cards?
They’re 100-120lb
You mean A7 size ❤
What are the white boxes where you organize the cards? And where can is buy it?
Thank you😊
Hi! They’re from ULINE and they have a lot of sizes :)
@@bysarahkim Thank you 😊 Can you link the boxes for the greeting cards. I dont find some cheap in web. A Greeting Box for 50€ 🙄
Hi where do you get the plastic sleeves from please
Hi! They’re from Clearbags.
Hi! What size clear bag do you use to accommodate 4 cards?
Hi Mylah! I actually am not 100% sure as I don't have them anymore but they were just a little bigger than the A2 size bags (both in height and weight) to accommodate the thicker pile of cards :)
@@bysarahkim Thank you so much!
Hi Sarah what size do you use for the clear boxes to pack 10 cards?
And side note loved this video
Thank you so much!! My boxes are 4 1/2" x 5 7/8" x 7/8" but I find the 1" thickness is a little easier to pack (more room)

2022? This was uploaded 1 yr ago? It's 2024. I'm confused.
This was from 2022 winter. Maybe RUclips will update it to 2 years when it’s closer to 24 months :)
