  • I recently made a cake for my Stepdad's 50th birthday. He is a HGV Mechanic and so my mum asked me to make a Scania HGV cake. Here is the time lapse video showing the cake in the making :)
    p.s. sorry about the video quality at the start, the lighting in my kitchen was terrible!

    This is such an awesome cake. I'm making one similar to this but in the shape of an Amazon van. I just wanted to ask, did you leave the cake outside the whole time you we're working on it or did you put it in the fridge?

    • @AmyBombamy
      @AmyBombamy  3 года назад

      Hey, good luck with your cake! I left mine out on the kitchen worktop. I wouldn't advise putting Sugarpaste in the fridge. It can cause it to go wet and slimy.

    Hi ! Awesome job ! I was wondering, what did you put under the platform to have the truck raised ?

    • @AmyBombamy
      @AmyBombamy  Год назад +1

      Thank you. It was a good number of years ago now but from what I remember, I used a couple of strips of timber (3x2") and glued them to the large cake board, then put the cake itself onto smaller cake boards that then sat on the timber

    What type if cake did you use? Vanilla? Or pound? Also, what is that silver cake board you put the stacked cake on? Did you make it? I need something that will lift my cake a little for the wheels. Thanks!

    • @AmyBombamy
      @AmyBombamy  6 лет назад +1

      Pink Diamonds hi, I used a standard vanilla sponge recipe. The silver boards were a couple of thin cake boards (3mm thickness if I remember correctly) and I glued them to a piece of 3x2 timber which was cut to length.
      Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions 😊

    This is amazing! Bravo. Do you mean gum paste (same gum paste you would use to model flowers etc) or ordinary fondant?

    • @AmyBombamy
      @AmyBombamy  8 лет назад

      +Nabeela Ullah Hi, thank you 😊 I use normal sugarpaste but for anything that needs strengthening I add some tylose powder to the paste and make what I need with it. When the paste then dries, it hardens like gum paste.

      Hi, I can't remember exactly but I think it was about 2-3kg of white, 1kg black and around 500g (maybe more) of red.

    Hello, I am going to try and attempt to recreate your cake. Please can I have the sponge recipe you used?

    • @AmyBombamy
      @AmyBombamy  7 лет назад +1

      Sair hiya. of course you can 😀 it's on my laptop which is stored away at the moment and I'm currently in bed because I'm not feeling very well. I'll comment with the recipe tomorrow if that's OK? when are you planning on making the cake? 🙂 x

    • @sair191
      @sair191 7 лет назад

      Next week! It's to feed 200.
      I also wondered how you secured the wheels? I noticed you have the cake raised slightly, is that on mdf? Also what size are your cake boards? Thanks! X

    • @AmyBombamy
      @AmyBombamy  7 лет назад

      Sair I can't remember the exact size of the large board but I had to buy it from B&Q and have it cut to size. the smaller cake boards are mounted on a 3" x 2" piece of wood. I glued the 3x2 piece of wood to the large board and then glued the smaller cake boards on top of that. I made sure not to let the glue seep out and that it was completely dry before I put the cake on it so that there was no chance the glue could touch the cake. I secured the wheels with toothpicks but just make sure you take them out before anyone eats the cake lol. x

    • @AmyBombamy
      @AmyBombamy  7 лет назад

      Sair oh sorry, forgot to mention, each small square board was 10 inch in size and I trimmed them down to around 7 inches in width I think so in the end they were 10 x 7 inches. x

    • @sair191
      @sair191 7 лет назад

      Were your sponges 8 x 8? How many did your cake feed? Sorry for the questions, it's a big request from someone at short notice! X
