THAT is how you play a ballad, phenomenal performance from especially Roy, but also the lead alto, and the whole group. They really showed how good this can sound.
Just heard about his passing and went straight here... a true artist who will always be remembered. Rest in peace Mr. Hargrove, thank you for the music.
This may be the greatest version of this song. So much soul, knowledge, understanding, and emotion in his sound. I get teary eyed every time I listen to it.
What a sensitive soul. What a warm heart. As a torchbearer you made the flame of jazz even fuller and stronger. R.I.P Mr. Hargrove, you'll be remembered.
3:15 - 3:27 .... Speechless. Not many others in jazz can see make the first 9 seconds fit with the last three. No matter how many risks he takes Roy seems to always be in control.
So sad to hear of Roy Hargove's passing. This flugelhorn solo is so lyrically beautiful I was on the verge of tears. Reading the news now, the tears came back.
We lost yet another great , great musician , jazz horn player who's music in my view ? Was always in a class all its own. Thanks for the many great tunes Mr. Hargrove your music will definitely live timeless. Rest in Peace .
sitting here smoking a ciggarete listening to the most soulful and heart warming version of this song just as cats would do back in the 40's and 50's and im only 18 years old man i wish i lived in that era! and i wish this song would never end!! its absoulelty amazing! hargrove was meant for jazz!
Nobody plays I remember Clifford like Roy hargrove. And his backup band. And there never will be Warner like Roy .. and the All-Star jazz band.... Thank you. And God bless
Amid all his insane antics of Strasbourg St. Denis and his soulful renditions of hip hop in The RH Factor. I find my self time and time again coming back to this and realizing this is truly why i love Roy Hargrove. Thank you RH.
Phenomenal !! The Jazz world will never forget the Great Jazz Giants of yesteryear. And, Cats like Hargrove, who passed way too soon hold a special place in our hearts and thoughts. R.I.P.
Indéniablement la plus belle version de ce superbe morceau, toute la délicatesse du son et de l'expressivité du regretté Roy Hargrove au bugle...RIP maestro, là haut tu dois enchanter les nuages, les astres et les dieux...
Written by Benny Golson in 1957. He played in Milwaukee this past Friday and his website says next date is Blue Note Tokyo 4/30 - 5/5/16. He is 87 years old - go Benny! Support Jazz in the USA! This beautiful version was in 2007 in Germany. The talent is still out there. You could hear music like this within driving distance of where you live or you can pay money for recordings. These people aren't trying to get rich - just make a decent living. Keep the music alive!
I thank you Roy for giving so much of yourself through the music and lessons you have bestowed upon the next generation of musicians. The Legend and GOAT please rest peacefully
One of the posts put it perfectly: ...elegant and graceful… ;...sensitivity and technique... Reaching the end of this video is like getting to the end of a last lost-love love letter.
Beautiful one of my favorite trumpet and flugelhorn players. and at 3:10 Roy Hargrove used a beautiful improvisational run in perfect timing and rhythm with the classic talented Hargrovian articulation. I recognize his voice and brand through his instrument anywhere He was blessed to bless many. RIP You are greatly missed.
IMHO, the best rendition I've heard of this tune since Lee Morgan. Roy is one of the most soulful musicians alive--thanks so much for sharing this beautiful video with the world!
I adore this person, he plays so breathtakingly that makes me cry, once i listened to him couldn't stop since then... i love him as a wonderful musician and a great person...
This man is obviously a very sensitive & talented genius. Although I spent many years practicing and playing trumpet, and listening to other great trumpet players, I'm not very familiar with Mr. Hargrove, but this video has made me want to hear much more from him. What an amazing player!
Agreed!--and not just the note but the mood Roy Hargrove created as he brought the ending to a calm landing that tied it back to the calm beginning, despite the emotional highs in the middle of the tune. Most endings return to the beginning, but this one tied them together in a beautiful bow and gave us a parachute.
His command of the instrument is amazing, and he coaxes one of the most beautiful tones I've ever heard on any instrument out of that flugle. Not to mention thats the sexiest horn I've ever seen.
YYYYYEEEESSSS!!! After 10 minutes I can post my comment!! Before I was flying in my dreams!!! I am trumpeter but I don't want to speak of his perfect technic or tone. He just flies me to the moon!!! So perfect!!!
the sound of his horn playing is impeccable the emotion that captures you and draws you in i was blown away when i first saw him in nyc at the village vanguard. how in the world do you replace talent like this.
A gorgeous song played by one of the most elegant and graceful brothers still playing Black Classical Music. Roy shows the sensitivity and technique of a true master like Clifford Brown. It is beautiful to pay tribute to one of our ancestors.
i really dnt know what to say about this song.i reall y cant say how i feel,it just blows me away everytime i watch it,,beautiful;gorgous and simply magical

Roy Hargrove is one of the most gifted musicians to hit the Jazz stream... Awesome young man...
Still the baddest flugelhorn player and awesome sound period!!!
Amid all his insane antics of Strasbourg St. Denis and his soulful renditions of hip hop in The RH Factor. I find my self time and time again coming back to this and realizing this is truly why i love Roy Hargrove. Thank you RH.
Love this. Oh boy, Roy.
Oh boy.
This is sublime. Been returning here for years. Hargrove was the King.
Watched it four times in a row. Couldn't break away.
How someone can play this as beautifully as Lee - and differently - is incredible. Ty Roy for making the world more beautiful.
Such fine trumpet player, He'll forever be with us....Rest in peace Roy, your music will live on.
Phenomenal !! The Jazz world will never forget the Great Jazz Giants of yesteryear. And, Cats like Hargrove, who passed way too soon hold a special place in our hearts and thoughts. R.I.P.
Roy has harmony that is unique to him. At least non of the modern trumpeters have it. He always has a great feel for ballads.
And his sound on flugelhorn...magoc

This is such a melodic & gorgeous tune. Roy interprets it beautifully.
Roy´s a cat with a damn good taste for smooth melodies
This is not just a great tune, it is every trumpet players obligation to play this song in remembrance of Clifford Brown.
@@MegaBanne Interesting. Do you mean "every trumpet player's obligation" or do you mean the ones who know and respect jazz history?
@@emilerose1424 The ones who know and respect jazz history haha.
Wonderful song. Wonderful player
Stellar! and mellow!
Crazy to see a Great play a song dedicated to a Great!
Goodbye Mr hargrove
Jazz is American music. It's really our only substantial fine art export and we as Americans should be proud that it ours, no matter your skin color.
Whenever I saw him live & he played flugelhorn he brought me to tears. Genius. Miss you Roy
Roy was sooooo smooth on this wonderful interpretation and beautiful arrangement of "I Remember Clifford"

Around 2:30, his face while the band is playing is for all the ages! Just pure emotion! Gets me everytime!
Roy played this song, almost flawlessly 😮
Another legend lost, but his influence in jazz will never be forgotten. He was one of the last remaining true jazz musicians. Rest in paradise
