You should definitely check out Geoff’s solo stuff. Personally I love his version of “blackbird” and “high and dry” but honestly any of his solo stuff is great. Also, Voiceplay have a huge catalog and it is all fantastic. PS not sure if Geoff does voiceovers, but he does do story narrations on his channel and they are great if you like ASMR. His voice gives me goosebumps.

Great analysis as always. Fortunately for us Geoff isn't just interested on how low he can sing but how well he can sing low, he works on his entire range to improve and strengthen it. He also has videos on his channel about using subharmonics, audio books he's narrated along with a bit of their IVF journey and hearing loss sharing a bit of encouragement to others going through life changing experiences they've encountered.

Geoff was reluctant to do this one for years because Frollo is an evil character and that didn't sit too comfortably... but eventually he relented - and totally killed it!!
They are all amazing - and the insane beat boxing and arrangement by Layne is underloved.
Thanks for the reaction and please do more!

Geoff's control and smoothness is just wonderful. He can skip up and down the octaves with ease. You can hear it very well in Jack's Lament. Yes J.None is missed since he left to join the navy but he comes back often when on leave. He doesn't do voiceover work (Eli does) but he has his own channel of low bass covers, and also short stories and poetry videos he's done. He doesn't have time for more. :) And yes it's them apart from the final mix. It's all there in the credits. Geoff has also done videos on How To Sing Low, and How To Sing Very Low. So you can see those.

Geoff has superb vocal fold closure! It’s a big part of his smooth sound. He says that he wishes he had more turbulence in his voice, though; he wanted to be a rock tenor! 😄

I really enjoy your enthusiasm for all of the talented members of Voice Play and am glad I subscribed to your channel. Voice Play is a group from Orlando Florida and all of the members and their frequently featured guests have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks. Yes, they do all of their own production mostly from PattyCake Productions, a studio owned by their beatboxer, Layne, and their former baritone singer, Tony Wakim (Tony is still very much a part of their family and production but he did not like the demands of touring and prefers to focus on production and day to day operation of the studio). They work without a label or contract by choice so they have complete control of their creative expression and balance of family life over touring demands. Yes, Geoff's voice and 5 octave voice range are incredible and I agree with the other "Voice Players" (fans of Voice Play) in the comments about checking out Geoff Castellucci's solo channel (you would love "Jack's Lament" to see his range, acting and character emphasis). Eli does character voices on a more regular basis professionally but all of them have done a bit in their career. J None was a full time member but left to join the Navy and comes back as a featured guest often when he is on military leave (he has an incredible range also and sings as a bass singer with the Navy but can sure hit some high notes!) J None also has his own channel that he does all the production, beatboxing, rapping and vocal arrangements. You will also see "minis" on Voice Play's channel if you click on 'shorts' that are very raw without production that are so much fun (check out "Peaches" on their shorts for an unexpected display of Geoff's range). I look forward to your continued journey of Geoff and Voice Play!

This is a #Voiceplay EPIC performance!! Layne arranged this one and it's a masterpiece!! They're ALL so talented and this one showcases Geoff and his amazing range. But like every Voiceplay arrangement, everybody gets their chance to shine. I love that no one dominates on any of their releases. In just about every band, you can say "XYZ" is their lead singer, but not in any Voiceplay arrangement. That's one of the things that makes them so enjoyable is that the song changes direction every 20 seconds and give someone else a chance to shine. Great reaction. Knew you would love this one!!

Geoff resisted doing this song for a long time, but when he finally agreed, he was a total pro and gave it his all.
Vocally, this is my favorite lineup, with Cesar and J.None home on leave, or at least a weekend, from the Navy.
I don't think Geoff does any voiceovers (pretty sure Eli does) but he has several narrations on his solo channel. If you want to see and hear his emotional range, I suggest Ain't No Sunshine and Way Down. As always with Geoff and VoicePlay, watch until the Patreon credits roll, with captions on.

Geoff has done some narrations. He’s got a fair few on his RUclips channel. Like “the legend of sleepy hollow”, “the little mermaid”, some Edgar Alan Poe and a whole bunch of short pieces like “the jabberwokky”.
His voice is so soothing I’ve yet to finish listening to any of his long pieces without drifting off to sleep.

Again, new to me - so I'll be youtube searching for his solo tracks. Another name to add to the list of big range power singers. I'm learning all the time, thank you. . I've just watched the Sound of Silence. He's one of those singers who could be termed "acrobatic". Up and down their entire range without any hint of real effort, without any sliding from note to note, just a clean transition. (there must be a technical /musical term instead of "sliding"?) . I enjoy many music styles, love boogie woogie, classical, opera, rock, show tunes, jazz gregorian chant..... and probably most everything else. Music makes the world a happy place. E❤

Patrons had been suggesting this one for a long while. Geoff did not want to be that dark, but Layne picked this project and he sent Geoff his part. It is spectacular, evil, mesmerizing and unforgettable. I think the other 3 guys were all part of Geoff's psyche, J None praying to Maria, Cesar blaming God, Eli saying if you are mine, you will burn. Geoff's part started off with they way he presented Minister Frollo and ended with Be mine or burn. The darkest of Disney's villains. Check out In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), In the Hall of the Mountain King (Edvard Grieg 1875), and for hearing what J None can sound like, do Tennessee Whiskey, very different VoicePlay videos.

check Geoff's personal channel - he has at least one video on how to do subharmonics. One of the "tells" of subharmonics is that they are a dual resonance - the sub "appears" exactly one octave lower.

I just love to see Geoff in centre stage as it doesn’t happen all that often. This piece tells an entire story on its own and you don’t need to know Hugo’s novel to understand what’s happening. There are even moments where it’s possible to pity Frolio. That this featured in the Disney version is an indication of the different world we inhabited in the 1990s. Thank you for reminding me, Charlie. 😊

Geoff's voice in this one is so gorgeous and rounded. The tone is beautiful. But this particular song sounds wonderful on all of them. I'm not sure considering the subject that Eli should be legally allowed that glorious 'Esmeralda'. Perhaps it sounds especially good to me because I grew up singing in choir and this is the closest I've heard them go for a 'church' sound, which is terribly appropriate for this song. I know just how hard it is to get those beautiful, full tones. Geoff even gets that liturgical drone right when calling for blessing as Frollo decides to burn her. While I'm not fond of the subject, I actually refused to go see the movie because the book so depressed me. Even so, I play this over and over just to hear their gorgeous tones. I still love their other styles, but this is special and certainly not limited to Halloween (which they released it for).

As far as I know, Geoff doesn't do any voiceover work. (Eli, however, is a voiceover actor and most of the voices of NPCs in their video are him, like the guard in this one, and Santa in Oogie Boogie's song.) However, do not despair! On his solo channel does do poetry, like Edgar Allen Poe, and stories like "Twas The Night Before Christmas" and "The Headless Horseman." I'm sure he could make a fortune doing audiobooks, but he's a pretty busy guy. His solo channel is worth checking out, his low bass covers are mind-blowing. IMO, his version of "I See Fire," from The Hobbit shows off his range the best.

Loved your reaction. I am not crazy about the lyrics, but the song is so powerful.
After watching his lesson on subharmonics, I wandered around my house warbling away trying to get a subharmonic. Suddenly I did and it surprised me so much that I stopped and I haven’t been able to do it again since. But it was a pretty phenomenal feeling to just have this note change suddenly!
I’ve noticed your gramophone . Did you noticed that that is Geoff’s logo? Do you think that’s going to give you special powers reaching subharmonics? 😂
I was trying to determine who the artist was playing in the background during your outro. The voice was remarkably like J’s in tone. He does have a solo channel as well as to a few of their other featured artists. About as far away from a bass as you can get, DeeJay Young has a channel. He has an absolutely stunningly beautiful tenor.

You should definitely check out Geoff’s solo channel. It’s not a capella, though it’s still light on instrumentation, and it shows off his range, since it’s just him. Voiceplay doesn’t do live tours anymore, but if you want to check out something live, I suggest Road Trip, which was a skit they did on the Sing-Off tour. It’s very funny. Also, they used to do one-take medleys that are less post-production heavy. I suggest the 80s cartoon one. Layne gets to do some really fun special effects noises in that one.

Geoff is the first to admit that he does EQ the air out of some of his low notes, so there is some processing. If you check out his social media, he will occasionally post a video with no processing at all, which is really fun and gives a more realistic idea of what his voice sounds like without the processing. He also has some videos on his solo channel toward the beginning on how to sing low. I recommend you check them out because he shows his range without processing along with giving some great tips.

Eli (bald tenor) DOES do voice acting and character voices, he provided the voice of the guard in this video. He also provided the voice for Santa Claus in their video Oogie Boogie's Song, the mayor of Halloweentown in This Is Halloween, and the voice of the Grinch in You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch. So you can have an opportunity to hear his vocal work in a number of VoicePlay videos.

As another Brit who loves Voiceplay i suggest you check out some of their other guest singers now because while we all love J None they work with some amazing others too. Everyone they pick is amazing and they match them so well with the songs they ask them to do.

I am not trying to be disrespectful of Geoff nor Voice Play, but Tim Foust has an even better range (with a much smoother tone) than Geoff [He is even the one who taught Geoff how to get that low]. Also Tim's group Home Free has a lot more harmonious melodies, and a wider range of genres (all of which are incredible).
I suggest you check out quite a few Home Free songs and you will REALLY be amazed. Also, some of Tim Foust's solo work (he layers multiple acaeplla tracts on them) really showcase his range, especially "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow / Stay".
People almost always seem to watch "Man of Constant Sorrow" first, which IS a great song, but I like to recommend some of their more contemporary covers. "Working for a Living" (Huey Lewis), "Listen to the Music" (Doobie Brothers), "Love Train" (The O'Jays), "End of Road" (Boyz 2 Men), "Friends in Low Places" (Garth Brooks), or "Hillbilly Bone" (Blake Sheldon / Trace Atkins).

This is just your opinion and you are wrong. Geoff’s range is actually a bit larger than Tim and he did not learn to sing low from Tim. This is a complete rumor. Geoff was impressed with Tim’s low GROWL technique specifically but Geoff uses mostly chest and subharmonics for his lows. He’s been working on his voice since 97, way before he met Tim. 🤦🏻‍♀️ He taught himself to sing so low and learned subharmonic techniques from David Larsen. And it is absolutely disrespectful to Geoff to post comments like this giving Tim Foust credit for Geoff’s talent and hard work 🤦🏻‍♀️
