If you win the pipe masters by doing the best airs, you aren't a pipe master unless you also got far and away best and deepest tube rides and made them. Tradition should count for something.

Thats a joke. Just because Vans owns the name "Pipe Masters" does not make this a real Pipe Masters. The top guys in the world aren't even in this contest.

Surfing has always been scored by judging the most critical maneuvers in the most critical part of the wave. For Pipe, that is IN THE BARREL. The criteria change is a joke, designed to appeal to mass marketing. Half the CT arnt even competing in the new format.

Because the format changed from big barrels to big airs. When the top surfers go to pipe they want a barrel not an air. Everyone hates the new format so they opt out
New format is a joke. They are trying to be too progressive with an iconic contest.

Nobody has ever taken off going backside and whipped a frontside alley OOP. Get what I'm saying. Not a backside reverse but a front side. Has anyone done that not taking the air? That's the next big thing. Surprised I haven't seen it attempted.
Yeah pinpoint what Nathan was saying about transition. Bigger faces that mimic a vert ramp are super sick with low impact like the equivalent of being able to slide out on your knees or save your knees and ankles for the long run like Tony hawk does

would have almost missed pipe because i was watching the WSL-event schedule. !!!?? there is nothing on the whole website about pipe, really nothing. the vanssite shows a wsl-logo, but i wonder why. they have missed to schedule so many events. last years HUI, what i would say was the most perfect event in a long time and wsl did nothing to support it. they really suck
