I've always found it hard to find good tutorials for reaper because not many people use it, this is extremely helpful! Thank you for using a free plug-in and explaining so succinctly
I watched 2 tutorials and struggled to reduce noise, YOU SIR are the only one who explained the sampling part. Now I know what I did wrong, THANK YOU! :) hopefully my videos will have clearer sound now.
Trying to remove unwanted guitar string slide & squeak noise. I had no idea Reaper was so powerful & versatile. They really have thought of everything. Maybe not the nicest UI and have to jump through a few loops. But for the price, it's amazing!
what if there is only noise if someone speaks? like a wet squeaking noise, def higher frequency like the voice. it just sounds unnatural. like when someone rubs a rubber over a wet plastic foil. 😅
Big thank you! Subscribed and making great use of the information on your channel. Having migrated from ProTools and a plethora of other great DAWs, Reaper has won my heart... kind of like dating is to marriage; things just work and there's always something new and interesting to learn. (I'm a newlywed so it's a fitting analogy :-) Respectfully, Brian Jackson
+Ian O'Regan No problem and believe me, there are LOTS of col things in Reaper when you get stuck in :0) For me, stretch markers along with pitch correction is awesome for dealing with timing issues :)
***** Do you have a video tutorial on how to do pitch correction while keeping a singer's vibrato in tact? It's the one thing that I can't seem to figure out - re-pitching always seems to adjust everything to the desired pitch, which flattens out any vibrato in the voice. Any advice? Cheers.
+Ian O'Regan I tend to use Waves Tune for my pitch correction and that's pretty good at retaining the vibrato. You can even adjust or add the vibrato. I've found it gives great results and isn't as expensive as the Melodyne or Antares plugins. Check it out. I'm looking at doing a tutorial on using the Waves Tune and Reaper markers to manage time and pitch adjustments.
Great tutorial, thanks! Depending on the background noise, you might be removing wanted spectrum from the source material, and which may be better mitigated by enhancing mic isolation if possible. Still, I use this tool most of the time cos it's easier!
+ReaperTV Exactly right. That technique has salvaged too many projects to count and actually contributes significantly to their success. I try to record at least 10 secs of just ambient noise, when I remember ...
+duddley2010 I do the same with any voice recording work so I can quickly apply my signal chain and clean the audio ready for adding to the video footage. :)
You can try cutting about 1-3db somewhere between 250-500hz (sweep to find where it takes out the most "mud" without sounding hollow) and/or boosting 1-2db somewhere between 2.5k-5k. High pass around 80-95hz. Maybe a +2db high shelf from 9.5k on up. Light compression, around 1.3:1 or 1.6:1, with a 4-6db knee.
HI there! Hoping is well, this was a great tip thanks. I also loved that theme. would you care to share or point me in the direction for one that is similar? Thanks in advanced.
I didn't realize Reaper came with an FFT filter. I kinda assumed that NR was the realm of a destructive stereo editor. There's many useful plugins, but without a sexy UI they don't seem like much at first.
+j7ndominica0 Most of the Reaper stock plugins look a little 'plain' but they are pretty damn good. I tend to use the EQ, Compressor and a few others on almost every project. :0)
Do you know of a way of removing clicks while the instrument is playing? I have dozens of little clicks over multiple tracks. I can't use ReaFir because the clicks only happen when the instrument is playing so there is no 'quiet bit' with just the clicks to sample. These clicks were possibly an issue with the guitar that played them, and re-recording isn't an option, so is there any other way to get rid of them?
freaklives I know this is a year old comment but it's possible that the clicks are just a part of reaper. I've noticed that sometimes I hear a click or pop sound when listening back to audio in reaper but if I stop and play it again, the clicks aren't in the same place or disappear entirely so it doesn't appear to be audio clipping but rather some glitch in the playback. That said, it is possible that it's your recording too. Make sure you're not peaking. Definitely don't go over 0db, better off around -12db for max recording level.
To be honest, I've never tried it. I can imagine that if you profile the noise prior to any playing and that the computer being used is fast enough to process the audio in realtime, it should work.
I am trying to get rid of a background sigh, its very quiet so does not show on the audio profile, and Im also playing guitar at the same time. Please can someone help?
katherine macfie you need to make sure that you're not picking up frequencies that a part of the main audio. If you do it will have an effect on the overall audio..
Hi thanks. Could you please tell me another technique I could use? I am trying to get rid of a quiet 'sigh' whilst playing guitar, its noticeable because the recording is looped. (it was quite a tricky thing to record).
just a suggestion, maybe try editing the audio at that point, and use one of the different fades to try and lose the sigh, you might have to use another track to mask the gap-if it leaves a gap, but i've had success cutting out 'bum' notes with this method.
Sameer Sanadi thats because in the section that u looped probably picked up your voice, so it removing your voice. Make sure that section ONLY has the noise you wanna remove
I love that Reaper can do all of this stuff, but why do they have to bury everything and use names like "Jesus Megababy" and crap for things that people need to find?? I say an internet connection is required to use Reaper simply because you can't do things without looking up what plugin it would be in on RUclips and forums. I mean, yes, I could have gone into the manual, searched for "noise" and it would have pointed me to the ReaFir plugin on page 323. But for such a useful function as noise reduction, they could have had better presentation of it.

WOW been on reaper for 4yrs now and didn't know about this tool. Thanks sir.
+Terry Slaton My pleasure. It's a pretty cool feature that isn't mentioned that often :0)
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks man!
Thank you for making this concise and also giving a comparison to show it's effectiveness
Thanks for this! Very clear, step-by-step, and therefore helpful.
This was lifesaver in a pinch for me - thank you!
You have changed my life thank you thank you thank you!!
Cool.😎

Ooh Yes, another great tut, really helpful, thank you very much !
+Rob van Hees Cheers Rob, glad you enjoyed :0)
That's a great feature! And you fixed your bad voice over sound too! 😊

+Brian Jackson Hey Brian, thanks for the feedback and for subscribing. It's most appreciated and good analogy too ;0)
Awesome tip - thank yo so much!!! (This might be the coolest thing I've seen in Reaper so far.) Keep up the excellent work!! :-)

+ReaperTV cheers :-)
This is the most powerful plug-in I think I use for everything. This is just not for nice reduction. I must try...
Thank you very much for this. It really did help
It's so clear now!!!! Many thanks.
This was 200% what I meeded
Thank you from Australia!
Great video. Thank you
Exactly what I was looking for, thx
Excellent !!!!
When I do this it leaves a really low strange sound like a metally type sound but its really low, why does that happen and what can I do to fix it
will this process work for cancelling distorted guitar hum and noise?
what preferences setting should i use if i use usb midi cable from amp?

+duddley2010 It's no substitute for a well isolated recording environment, but can be useful for ambient noise in lots of circumstances. :)

I need help with my vocals I feel there not clear enough

I did this and my whole sound been completely silent... instead of just in that particular selection
how can i solve this?
HI there! Hoping is well, this was a great tip thanks. I also loved that theme. would you care to share or point me in the direction for one that is similar? Thanks in advanced.
+Dwayne Levy Sure, it's called Default Comalla 4 and is available on the Reaper Stash for free :0)
+ReaperTV Totally Awesome man!!!! thank you very much! I love it, very easy on the eye and looks great!!
Dwayne Levy It's a great theme and my go to one for the last 2 years or so. Enjoy :0)

Very useful
+reaperTV what mic are you using?
Darwin Andaya a Shure PG42.
So this plugin integrate ?
Thanks for this awesomeness! (This is Noah BTW)
+Reggie Tito No problem dude, glad you enjoyed :)
Can hou use this option for live performances?
To be honest, I've never tried it. I can imagine that if you profile the noise prior to any playing and that the computer being used is fast enough to process the audio in realtime, it should work.
Hello, I am following this exactly, but when I play it back it sounds very tinny/underwater sounding, please what am I doing wrong?
I am trying to get rid of a background sigh, its very quiet so does not show on the audio profile, and Im also playing guitar at the same time. Please can someone help?

What is reaper and what can you do with it.
Audio software. you can mix master and record music!
Wow, look out Protools, there's a new kid on the block named Reaper and it's going to kick your ass.
Not so new, but agree with the 'ass kicking' 😉
voice is also getting removed

I bet you $100 this tutorial doesn't show how to get rid of static
Update: it didn't show me how to remove static
