As someone who's actually experienced it myself, this song sounds exactly how mental breakdown-induced psychosis feels. Just a seemingly endless cacophony of noise, distortion, rage and depression. The way Paul's bassline carries through most of the runtime, evolving and shifting but continuing through the quietest moments is like how the psychosis evolves but persists through the breakdown, and Corey's psychotic lyrics reflect the demented thoughts one has when having a breakdown. Just a brilliant piece of music.

There are reverse vocals in this that, when played backwards say "don't look at me", combined with the SHUT UP screams during the it cuts us part, gives this whole story of necrophilia a whole other layer of self-hatred and shame for what he's doing, and the fact that it's completely subdued in this song shows he's completely at his breaking point. This song takes me to a place that I thought doesn't exist. I revel in it. It's 15 minutes of complete chaos and insanity, it's palpable, you can touch it. There's virtually no other song that I can have an experience like this other than Scissors. I don't think Slipknot will ever make a song like this again. They're just not mentally there anymore... probably thankfully....
Those songs are genius, yes (Just found Iowa because I missed that there was an actual song called Iowa 😂 I thought when people talk about Iowa they meant the album but most of the time they must have meant this song) but I'm very happy that they are doing better now 🙏🏼 They deserve to be happy. They still have the talent tho, so their other songs aren't bad 💪🏼
This is maybe the greatest song by slipknot. It scary to listen to because its so real. His scream of agony are real. those are genuine. He actually hurt him self and damaged himself in this song. This song isn't a gimmick. It's real.

Say what you want, but this song soothes me. it let's me know that I'm not alone.
I'm the exact same way. When I'm going through a hard time and just need to feel the emotions, this is the song I always listen to. It's weird, but it feels like the same emotion in the song. It's welcoming to me. Being an HSP and empath, I don't think many people understand how much more strongly we feel every single emotion
You're not the only one & you're not alone!!!... I also did exact the same, When everytime I feel deppressed and got overwhelm to it, I litterally blast this song in my headphone and so on.
I heard that Cory was naked in the studio for a long period of time while recording this song, completely naked, vomitting all over himself, and cutting himself with broken glass, in order to bring out the emotion on it.
What a single song in an album can mean is something that has symbolic value. The dark yet calming bass riffs with the ritualized drumming is almost meditational.

@@pespifish901 actually they were all together in a tiny room. Corey talks about the recording of this song here: ruclips.net/video/ITMCVVwFJWY/видео.html
The band's darkest period in their career during the original line up; it's literally disgusting, this whole album. Everyone was so fed up with the world and each other at this point. An album that seeps this much anger and hatred for all things will never be devised again. I'm confident in saying that none of the guys would dare to look back at this time in their lives if they weren't asked to.
This song has amazing vocal usage, like most old-school slipknot songs, Corey doesn't only sing the lyrics or throw in a scream, you can hear him breathe in the mic or something like that. I think Corey would be a great voice actor
You can hear Corey screaming here for everyone who’s ever lost their mind, himself included. Arguably Slipknot’s darkest song, from the opening scream to Gray’s decrescendo-ing bass line at the end. Anders just didn’t get the vocals right on the MFKR version. Corey’s “method” vocals here are utterly driven by actual pain, insanity, and madness (he was drinking 3 bottles of Jack a day laying vocals for this album). Aside from the addiction to alcohol, there’s just no way this song would feel the same if he wasn’t doing what he did to himself throughout the recording.
I like how paul greys bass line is consistent through the entire track as if it like he makes sure you get through this ''psychotic journey'' kind of song in one piece.
Since it's been confirmed this song is about necrophilia, I'm going to make your time here just a little bit creepier: 0:00-2:35 The narrator has killed the woman in question and is just now realizing what he's done. 2:36-3:45 He now knows what he must do, or at least the equivalent of "what he must do" in his deranged mind. 4:08-4:54 He begins defiling his victim, and as he says, this is the first time he's done something like this. 4:55-5:58 He continues throughout the night (or day, IDK) as the body begins to decompose. 5:59-9:31 He leaves the body with plans to continue shortly thereafter. (Side note, but I think the reversed "don't look at me" symbolizes him having constant paranoia that someone will find out) 9:32-11:41 He revisits the body only to find it has decomposed even more and her withering face looks nothing like the woman he knew, and now he's overcome with rage, as he feels he's been tricked and lied to. 11:42-15:06 He gets rid of the body and tries to get her out of his mind, but he can't as he can smell her body's stench and her screams echo through his mind. And he begins detaching from reality more and more to the point where he sees her and is talking to her. And eventually what little sanity he had left is gone
After listening to this a few times, I got really attached to this. The darkness is somewhat welcoming. It makes me drift off to a more darker side of my mind. It gives off its aura of unique horror. This is probably the masterpiece that represents the twisted world that we live in.
I've listened to much longer stuff personally. There is this one two month long composition that I listened to in sessions over the course of 8 months called The Chosen Priest and Apostle of Infinite Space by Bull of Heaven. It's mainly drone and ambient with some noise and plunderphonics thrown in.
Also Shawn, Chris, Joey, Sid, and, of course, Corey, who recorded the vocals while standing for a long period of time in the studio completely naked while cutting himslef with broken glass and vomitting on himself.
I play drums and I normally play this song from the 9 minute mark until the end and was in the middle of the mental break down section during 10:12 and I played the whole thing and damn near broke my arm
This track is fantastically disturbing. It really digs deep into the inner depths of insanity that may be hidden, but exists within us all. When I listen to this full blast I feel my head spin and my stomach starts to tie itself in a knot. It's crazy.
This whole album summed up everything I wanted to say whenever I was angry at the world. Corey takes the words right out of my mouth. I was bullied for six years, picked on, ignored by a lot of people I thought were my friends, and saw a lot of backs turned, and Iowa seemed to help with the lingering pain. Slipknot is very therapeutic for anger relief believe it or not.
The fact corey was completely naked, covered in puke, cutting himself with broken glass, really fucming shows how hard they went for this album. Same with sid in the opening track, screaming his heart out over missing his fathers funeral. Shits crazy dude.
I love this song because how uncomfortable it makes me feel. The tedious nature of the bass and drums on top of the vocals make me so uncomfortable and paranoid. That’s why I love it.

When I was a teen, I'd lift weights to the rest of this album. But as soon as this song came on, I'd get stoned and sweat and wonder how anyone could have the amount of hate exude from them the way Corey did. There really was no huge strife in my life. There was no hardship, no drama... I lived in a small town and slipknot was life. I was homeschooled and I would wait for all my friends to gather at my house and, no matter what we ended up doing, SLIPKNOT was the soundtrack. I hold so much reference for early slipknot. They will never hit the same as they did at that time in my life/their career. Much ❤️ to slipknot.
The reason that I love Slipknot so much is because the rhythm and the tone of their songs dont sound like any other heavy metal songs, basically their songs are like on another level, and Corey's screams still has a tone to it, unlike any other screamer vocalist, whos scream dont really sound that desirable.

They told us to choose a love song in literature class and present it in front of the class, this is what I chose the story: first of all, I'll say that it was a good way to spend 15 min of the lesson. you should have seen their faces when the first scream kicked in they were like omg is he summoning satan right now, but some started laughing ofc the teacher tried to stop the song right there but I convinced her that the rest of the song is calm (I lied ). the song played through with its creepie vibe and the last verse of the song started to kick in, the teacher said well that's not calm. when the song ended I explained to the class that the song was about a murderer who fell in love with a corpse and how the corpse was slowly starting to rot yet the killer stayed with it (we all become an object after we die). I also mentioned how corey cut himself while recording the song so his pain will be real. anyway everyone in the class wanted to know why I chose this song I told them that I knew that all the other love songs that other students chose were all going to be about the singer being a victim of unrequited love. and how I wanted to do the exact opposite. I ended up getting an A and 1 crazy girl in my class that now I call a friend.
4:54 My favorite part of the lyrics So blue so broken, paper doll decays I haven't left you yet. So cold, subversive, your eyes are full of bleach, tomorrow I will go again, love.
I know it is very dark...but this is some fucking brilliant art. When I was 8 years old I got a drum set. My older brother’s friends would introduce me to new music. When I was 13 I started playing with a double bass pedal because I wanted to learn Slipknot songs. I’ll never forget when I discovered this song. My brother plays guitar, so when we would jam at night we would always close with a badass cover of the Mfkr version of the song Gently. I’ll never forget when he showed me this song with headphones on while we sat in the dark with no light except a black light shining on a black light poster. I had never heard any music like this in my life, and knew when I heard it that it has its appropriate place on the spectrum of human emotion. I consider it one of my first psychedelic experiences.

Really fucking cool shit
Could you explain the context about necrophilia in the song?
@@arthurfernandes6934 Basically the entire storyline of the song is the narrator killing a woman and experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions as he has his way with her dead body.

Since it's been confirmed this song is about necrophilia, I'm going to make your time here just a little bit creepier:
0:00-2:35
The narrator has killed the woman in question and is just now realizing what he's done.
2:36-3:45
He now knows what he must do, or at least the equivalent of "what he must do" in his deranged mind.
4:08-4:54
He begins defiling his victim, and as he says, this is the first time he's done something like this.
4:55-5:58
He continues throughout the night (or day, IDK) as the body begins to decompose.
5:59-9:31
He leaves the body with plans to continue shortly thereafter. (Side note, but I think the reversed "don't look at me" symbolizes him having constant paranoia that someone will find out)
9:32-11:41
He revisits the body only to find it has decomposed even more and her withering face looks nothing like the woman he knew, and now he's overcome with rage, as he feels he's been tricked and lied to.
11:42-15:06
He gets rid of the body and tries to get her out of his mind, but he can't as he can smell her body's stench and her screams echo through his mind. And he begins detaching from reality more and more to the point where he sees her and is talking to her. And eventually what little sanity he had left is gone
why thank you sir lol

YO WAIT THIS MEANS IOWA GOES INTO MY NECROPHILE JAMS PLAYLIST????
After listening to this a few times, I got really attached to this. The darkness is somewhat welcoming. It makes me drift off to a more darker side of my mind. It gives off its aura of unique horror. This is probably the masterpiece that represents the twisted world that we live in.

I've listened to much longer stuff personally. There is this one two month long composition that I listened to in sessions over the course of 8 months called The Chosen Priest and Apostle of Infinite Space by Bull of Heaven. R.I.P PAUL and JOEY 💔

Did you know that Corey was naked, ate a ham sandwich, and constructed a Lego castle while recording this song?
I heard it was the Lego Death Star set actually.
He also cut himself recording this

@Narf 😂😂
Best opening line ever. "
Relax, its over, you belong to me, i fill your mouth with dirt."
Shadow Helix actually taskmaster beat you by 3 days
Ike of Pyke who?
This is Craig and Paul at their best
Nicholas Meek and corey at his
Everyone was pretty much at their best during this time, not personally / out of the band; but when it came to the music. Then hell yeah.
It's a shame that the greatest music comes from the most tortured souls
And Joey too
Also Shawn, Chris, Joey, Sid, and, of course, Corey, who recorded the vocals while standing for a long period of time in the studio completely naked while cutting himslef with broken glass and vomitting on himself.
I play drums and I normally play this song from the 9 minute mark until the end and was in the middle of the mental break down section during 10:12 and I played the whole thing and damn near broke my arm
It sucks that this was their darkest period in their lives and when they were getting high and on drugs behind stage n stuff
Pretty sure they where hitting the crank pretty hard, super human powers.
ahaha good on you !!
This track is fantastically disturbing. It really digs deep into the inner depths of insanity that may be hidden, but exists within us all. When I listen to this full blast I feel my head spin and my stomach starts to tie itself in a knot. It's crazy.

+Jonathon S Yea i agree. Especially the occasional yelling random words
tracks like these seem to dig, rip and reach in into a damaged mind
fucking love it
Agreed the part with the paul at the beginning makes a feeling of fear run down my spine. Your right
Especially after you learn what Corey did to himself when recording this song
This whole album summed up everything I wanted to say whenever I was angry at the world. Corey takes the words right out of my mouth. I was bullied for six years, picked on, ignored by a lot of people I thought were my friends, and saw a lot of backs turned, and Iowa seemed to help with the lingering pain. Slipknot is very therapeutic for anger relief believe it or not.
Slipknot for life
I don't care what anyone says this is my favorite song from Slipknot.
Sage Willis fair to say
You probably have the messiest room in whatever country you live in
This is my favorite from the Iowa album
Duality or psychosocial for me 🤘🏾
mine has to be Eyeless but this is heavy as shit
The fact corey was completely naked, covered in puke, cutting himself with broken glass, really fucming shows how hard they went for this album. Same with sid in the opening track, screaming his heart out over missing his fathers funeral. Shits crazy dude.
It was actually his grandfather's funeral but it's still very emotional and agony filled
@@xx_pjlikesmusic_xx oh thank you! Must've misheard it when I found out about it lol.

I love this song because how uncomfortable it makes me feel. The tedious nature of the bass and drums on top of the vocals make me so uncomfortable and paranoid.

It's because of the Slipknot song called (sic), basically it's a sort of tradition to say (sic) instead of sick when talking about something related to the band

How this hasn’t found its way into a horror movie yet is beyond me
I agree, but at the same time I'm happy it isn't, it's too much of a masterpiece to be degraded by being in a horror movie, it's a piece of musical history, and it would quite honestly be a disgrace to put it in some shitty Hollywood B movie 😒💯🖤

So true
Yeah, depression would be diluted and rage would be everything ends
Billie elish: ,,My music is so depressing"

This costant sample of craig jones, make this music so insane
The reason that I love Slipknot so much is because the rhythm and the tone of their songs dont sound like any other heavy metal songs, basically their songs are like on another level, and Corey's screams still has a tone to it, unlike any other screamer vocalist, whos scream dont really sound that desirable.

They told us to choose a love song in literature class and present it in front of the class, this is what I chose
the story:
first of all, I'll say that it was a good way to spend 15 min of the lesson. you should have seen their faces when the first scream kicked in they were like omg is he summoning satan right now, but some started laughing ofc the teacher tried to stop the song right there but I convinced her that the rest of the song is calm (I lied ). the song played through with its creepie vibe and the last verse of the song started to kick in, the teacher said well that's not calm. when the song ended I explained to the class that the song was about a murderer who fell in love with a corpse and how the corpse was slowly starting to rot yet the killer stayed with it (we all become an object after we die).
How did that go

That’s when I knew I’d love Slipknot forever. Stay (sic)
