Hey Danny. It is always a surprise when I watch and listen to your videos. The great thing about all is that you are open and honest. Very nice for us as high-end enthusiasts to see and hear what is in it. Especially keep it up and see you next. Peace and love and of course High end. Greetings from the Netherlands Limburg Maastricht. ✌😘🏃♂️👍😉
Where are all those GR haters now that only say Danny rips company’s products apart? Fact - He only rips products apart that needs it, and he gives props where props are due! Well done Danny.
I have the R41M. $85 from Costco and I also got the 12SW Klipsch for $169 also from Costco. Let me tell you, they sound very nice together. And for the price, considering it's just for the living room, Wow! we are very satisfied. I was going to buy some bookshelf's in the $600 dollar range but bought these because of Costco's return policy and I have decided to keep them. Very pleasant listening with my Sony AV receiver.
Love it! ❤️ In this year the 100th anniversary of Chinese Communist Party #CCP, stoked to know Dynaudio is now owned by Goertek of China #MadeInChina2025 #BeltAndRoad #BeijingOlympics2022 #OccupyMars2024 🇨🇳
I had a pair of BM15a in my studio for awhile alongside 2 other monitors and the difference in vocal/music balance between the Dynaudio and all my other speakers was shocking. I spent a week or so before accepting I could never mix on them. Ended up with Hafler TM8a, which were far less $, as my favorite.
I wouldn't even want to try cross 20cm cone woofer to 28mm tweeter, unless in a large waveguide. Really I have no idea what kind of crazy idea Dynaudio people had making them. The woofer starts beaming below 1kHz so you get huge hole in the midrange with peaks from cone break-ups. And it needs steep filters too. But add dome midrange, cross it around 700Hz and 3kHz - should make a good loudspeaker with even freq resp and some tunning options.
I have a bunch of those r-41m as surrounds in my setup. It would be fun to tinker with those as practice before updating the mains. I looked at the crossover a while ago and not much room to work with...even to just update the capacitors.
I have those as surrounds as well and was able to fit two poly caps in there, though I used the existing crossover board and left the inductors. I also replaced the sand cast resistors while I was at it and I have to say I was impressed with the outcome. Overall, the top and mid-bass/bass was just smoother with better clarity. My front stage are the RP series and after the upgraded, to me it feels like it's a better timbre match with my fronts now; not exact, but good enough.
@@cha7260 what brand did you go with on the caps? I thought the Sonic Caps were much bigger size than the stock caps. What were the values on the replacement caps for tweeter and woofer?
@@charlessailer4580 Yes, polypropylene caps will be much bigger than the stock electrolytic caps. Since these speakers are on the budget side I didn't want to spend to much so I just replaced capacitors and resistors. I replaced the components with the same values as the original and like Danny mentioned in the video, this speaker did measure well so only reason to change value is to alter the sound signature. I went with Dayton Audio 1% tolerance capacitors and resistors. Cost me about $30 for pair.
LOVE the idea of converting the active speaker into a passive! Could it be possible to do it in such a way where it could get switched back to active mode on the fly? Are all active speakers doomed to EMI & RFI? Is there NO way of properly isolating the amp circuit from the drivers to eliminate any chance of interference?
Yes courses there should be filtration very easily to prevent there shouldn't be any emi rf interference and probably isn't he's not measured it for that.
What would be a great speaker for side surround sounds? They will have to be mounted against the wall. They will be used for home theatre and all channel music listening. I was thinking of the Klispch 400m M or the 500 M. Please give me a couple suggestions
Hi Danny I know you recently did the SVS ultra Towers and Center speaker as well and I’m looking forward to a great center speaker I’m still waiting for upgrade for ultra towers I just don’t know because when I watched it it sounds kind of confusing like doing double stack of components and I don’t know if this is going to improve the sound quality
Hi Danny, Love the channel. I wonder if at some point you can explain what each component - resistor, capacitor, inductor - in the crossover actually does. I don't understand the values either, nor how each component works in conjunction with the others. Thanks!
I have seen people put the same tower speaker in the center channel as they are using for the front right and left. Does that make more sense then using a center channel speaker like the r25c klipsch?
Could Center Channel speakers be designed with woofers closer together with placing the tweeter slightly above the horizontal centerline (thereby allowing the dual woofers to be moved closer together) without any serious degradation of phasing, off-axis response, etc? Just a wild thought.... 🤔🤷♂️
Hi Danny, how would that Elac or Klipsch center sound standing up vertically? I have a 4 channel amp, and I was wondering if these would sound better than the book shelf speakers I am running now.
Have you measured the rf7iii and rc64iii? I'm looking to buy them to upgrade my front-stage of a 5.2.4 atmos setup. Have 2 fully Marty's with Ultima 18s on a nx6000 as well.
The metal mesh obviously causes defraction cancelation. But what did the off axis response do when you took the mesh off? Wide tweeter response is always a hard thing to do.
Hey Danny maybe I missed it but you never said which model the Elac was? I am guessing ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 Center but I am not sure. I was thinking about ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 Center vs. ELAC Debut 2.0 C5.2 Center, what are your thoughts? I would be replacing the Infinity Entra point 5 center channel. My right and left are Wharfedale Valdus 400SE, surround and sub are the Entra point five as well. When I listan to music I do so on the DCM Timeframe DF700. AVR is Onkyo NR7100
Another great video Danny. Thank you. I own an older Klipsch RC-61 Center and the literature on that speaker mentions that only one of the two woofers plays up to meet the tweeter. This was done to help eliminate or reduce the lobing associated with an MTM designed turned on its side. Two questions. 1) Does that Klipsch have the same design or is it just a traditional MTM? 2) Do you recommend this method when turning and MTM on its side for a center channel? Or is the better solution to push the mids as close to the tweeter as possible?
Center channels are waste of money to me. Best would be to regular loudspeaker without the MTM holes of axis. But then most people put them under the TV and low height is preferred. Best would be to have two woofers run to say 400-700Hz, then small mid with tweeter above it mid with higher crossover point say 4kHz. In this configuration one has more flexibility voicing the spkr correctly.
If they hate you for telling the truth? You know you are doing a great job. The best thing about GR is that you don't really need to think if you got the best parts. You ask for them? You got them. Danny? You are the MAN BRO!
TKS for sharing what u find iut about these speakers....I was interested to hear what Model # that the ELAC was....sounded like would be much better even w/o mods than the Klipsch RC - 62ii that I just ordered and am trying to CANCEL the order after your research on it! Which speaker manufacturer would you say has been consistent, over the years, for great: sound, build, and double duty on music/home theater performance. I’m a big Klipsch fan, but after seeing enough from you I’ve noticed they aren’t as “quality” as I once thought. I still love them, but if there are better options out there I’d like to hear them. I’m a big NHT fan as well, but I’ve not been doing A LOT of critical listening of musically for many years now. I’m mainly home theater. It blows my mind that KLIPSCH would go anywhere near 4 ohms when rated at 8ohms consistently. People buy them partly because they’re “supposed” to be easier to drive with less power required. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
the bm15a looks so huge in the video it's not that big really . hurry up with the crossover video for the bm15a that's exactly what I've been waiting for cant believe you've actually done it !
What are some diamonds in the rough, systems and speakers you would recommend for music and theater. Both vintage and current? I know, many questions in one sentence. Sorry.
If you go through the videos you'll see a few gems, he liked the Polk S30's build and crossover levels as well the Cheap Sony bookshelves that you see for $118. and on sale for $79
Hey Danny. You are in demand. I can appreciate an external crossover may not be the right thing in your mind, but why not? Most of us have had a laptop before and always it comes with the external power supply, so we're all used to cables and boxes. It's never a clean situation behind the audio components anyway, but cost aside (if it's not a crazy price), personally I'd love to have a snazzy-styled 'GR Research' custom box with the name of the speaker it's designed for...especially if an extra tube connects can be installed that allows for the original crossover to stay and be bypassed if necessary (cuz, you know, sometimes people can lose their custom GR RESEARCH box). Thanks. Secondly, have you thought about expanding your business to help you with video production, maybe hire someone to field the emails for you, etc? It could all be done remotely from anywhere in the world these days. You have friends who post RUclips videos of binaural speaker auditions, so why not, as an idea, post before/after videos of your crossover work? Linus Sebastian, a Canadian tech RUclipsr who has I think ten million subscribers did so by hiring people to help him with just this (and he makes serious money from RUclips as well). They've answered my emails, and you can imagine how many emails they must get every day. One thing that I would be interested in as a customer buying your speaker kit would be links to partner wood/cabinet makers near or in my area. This way if I want a beautiful assembly and don't have the space (I Iive in an apartment/condo) or the ability or the time - it could happen, COVID-19 won't last forever - I could have help. Fortunately I have a friend wood worker who is willing to help, but not everyone does. Bike shops assemble all the bikes they sell, so why not the odd audiophile shop? I know it's a DIY thing, and you'll always have that growing customer base, but how can I get a GR RESEARCH X-Static speaker if I don't want to build it? And of course the word will continue to spread in different ways. It's marketing, basically. Who knows? Your knowledge and skills are valuable to me. Thank you.
This is the reason you don’t want an mtm for a center channel it seems. Off axis will always be horrible which defeats the purpose of a home theatre center channel. So vertically aligned tweeter and midrange is the way to go always. I wonder how a w mtm w would measure off axis with the midrange slightly under and the tweeter over both the mid ranges. Kind of like a triangle pattern.
$150 on "real parts". You can spend $20 on poly-caps and get away from those electrolytic and it would be worth it. Those are the obvious standout. The rest of the crossover is probably fine for the price point.
What happen if you take the klipsch "that have better measurements than every other klipsch that has been in there" (apparently also measure better than RP-600m.) If you take two center channels and put the tweeter at ear height and turn the speaker vertical. Then you have one woofer on top and the other below the tweeter. For 2ch setup we will have a nice MTM setup! And two woofers instead of one compared to RP-600m... Cost aside, does that make sense?
@@FSXgta Try a pair of BIC Venturi DV62CLR-S in vertical mode. They go so low it's like having floorstanding speakers on my desk. Though I'm not sure how well they would be as a center, I tried the pair as my tv speakers and the mid bass was so excessive it was nauseating AF.
Trying pairs of centers in vertical mode is like my deal man. Try a pair of BIC Venturi DV62CLR-S, they so good for the price. You gotta get em' far from the wall tho, the dual rear ports are like firing a double barrel shotgun at your wall.
Well I won’t speak for him but just because a speaker “measures better” does not mean it sounds as good. I think that’s the problem with audio today...so many people listen with their eyes. By that I mean you make all your audio decisions based on a THD number, or a frequency response plot, or off axis results...you don’t listen to numbers. I don’t think Danny is saying the R-41m sounds better than a RP-600m.
Seems to me the Klipsch and Elac center speakers will do well as stereo speakers when placed vertically as long as one's ears are not too far off vertically...
Hello Danny! I have a pair of Klipsch XF-48 speakers...they are active speakers. Although they sound ok, I imagine they’ll sound even better if they were converted to passive speakers. Is that right? Is that something you can do?
I rarely buy my own cloths so who knows. I do know that someone gave it to me. And that someone knows I'm into speed. So it fit with my personality and it was a nice print.
can't help but wonder if the slopping off in the top end of a center channel speaker is by design - - odd that both center channel speakers here roll off the top end
That’s not really true anymore. Current mixing trends are that about 70% of a film’s soundtrack goes through the front speakers (I’m not saying it ONLY goes through the center, just that in the front LCR mix, a lot of the L and R also goes through the C).
i think that mtm laying down horizontal is the worst idea, the whole point of center channel is for getting better horizontal dispersion for wider seating coverage. its better to use a 2 driver 2 way as center or place the mtm vertical. if you have only one listening spot the dont use a center channel.
Thats what I like about DC Tannoy speakers and centers no time delay off axis, I have the 15'' Golds, my next upgrade from ELAC, I use the Centers for surround, turning them vertical, sounds great.
That small Klipsch looks interesting. The frequency bump at 1K would suggest a clear and forward midrange. Coupled with the horn loaded tweeter, I would expect an exciting well projected sound. Of course the bass is not going to be heavy.
Those little speakers have been proven to be great for over a decade. With the low cost of subwoofers these days, I wouldnt worry much about the low end on these. Just get a decent sub, check into harmon audio direct...lots of killer deals esp on infinity right now!
I was just working on it a few minutes ago. I had to walk away from it for a while. Their drivers, by far, measure worse than any of the other speakers on the table.
So I've been noticing some of the stuff Danny's been talking about with my ears. So I tried running my Studio 590's without bi-amp for the first time, and I noticed some crapification happening. I switched to plugging in the mica cable to the HF terminal instead of the LF terminal and that made the crapificaton go away. So there you go, having the signal pass though those crappy jumper plates is not a good thing. LOL the Klipsch RF7 III with it's cheap plastic binding posts from RadioShack.
crapification comes from speakers backed against a wall only 3ft apart with reflection off a hard surface they are sitting on. Many things that can degrade sound quality and some are a figment of our brains.
@@patrickmiller4987 No It really was making it sound bad plugging into the LF. The speakers were the same distance far from the wall with, bi-am, LF in w/jumpers, HF in w/jumpers. Admittedly it was just one song I was picking up on this tho. I did have the 590's slammed into the corners at one point which was real bad, but very effective at rattling everything in the whole house.
@@neksraven I never said they were a ceramic metallic. I agree with you on that point. However, injection molded graphite (not fibers) is not a type of fiberglass. You're confusing carbon fiber with IMG. They are not even close to being the same thing.
I Love your stuff man. I swear...have a lot of speakers...Klipsch, Elac's, JSE's , even some Bose 901's, God forbid. I love to swap speakers out in my living room for different sounds. My JSE's are 125 lbs each, so they stay in my man cave and those are the ones that for some reason, when I use those, the cops show up. I think they have something in the crossovers that call the cops. But today, I had some Sony SSCS5's that I bought for 73 bucks off Amazon. A friend came over and could not believe the sound coming out of the things. Now I had a sub...but those little speakers for 73 bucks? Really? He couldn't believe it. Now granted, I'm running these things with some quality amps...But those little Sony's...Folks if you want to have some fun, for 73 bucks...It's a deal. They sound better than some of my 600 dollar bookshelves...I like what you said about the Elac's. I'm warming up to them.
@@dannyrichie9743 I wanted to, but trying to explain to my wife that i was buying new speakers only to have them sent for testing and mods didnt go so well.
Danny, love your videos, but they’re making you more popular....you’re gonna have to hire someone to answer all those emails, or start directing folks through an automated Q&A to weed out the nonsense. Do it sooner rather than later, for your sanity!
I hear this over and over again. MTM speakers suffer from wave cancelation. People like to say it but nobody moves a mic around testing it. Given the thirst for youtube content and the simplicity of such a test, content I can only conclude the whole idea is vapor.
How do you know it is a truck stop t shirt?? Give the man some credit. Like "running with the bulls" in spain. I bet it is a souvenir shirt from the "running with the cheetahs" event he did on his african trip to Namibia. OBVIOUSLY he survived and wears the shirt with immense PRIDE......
I rarely buy my own cloths so who knows. I do know that someone gave it to me. And that someone knows I'm into speed. So it fit with my personality and it was a nice print.
I still prefer the "you got the shirt by being ONE of only a handful of survivors at the annual running with the cheetahs event in Namibia" Thats the story, and ima stickin to it!! :)
"passive crossovers sound better than active crossovers for the dynaudio" Complete and utter nonsense. With any speaker and with everything else being equal, putting passive crossover component such as an inductor in series with the woofer will no longer allow the amp to have complete control over the woofer because the inductor is between the woofer and the amp. This leads to a decrease in transient response (tight sounding bass) from the woofer.
I always look forward to your vlog. You're an audio 'treasure'. Thanks, Danny!

Which model Elac is that?
What model number is that ELAC?
$150 on "real parts".
You can spend $20 on poly-caps and get away from those electrolytic and it would be worth it. Those are the obvious standout. The rest of the crossover is probably fine for the price point.
Wow..this guy is the real deal...😁
What happen if you take the klipsch "that have better measurements than every other klipsch that has been in there" (apparently also measure better than RP-600m.)
If you take two center channels and put the tweeter at ear height and turn the speaker vertical. Then you have one woofer on top and the other below the tweeter.
For 2ch setup we will have a nice MTM setup! And two woofers instead of one compared to RP-600m...
Cost aside, does that make sense?
Not a bad idea.
I think the issue is most center channels are sealed and have less bass extension than a comparable bookshelf speaker
Seems to me the Klipsch and Elac center speakers will do well as stereo speakers when placed vertically as long as one's ears are not too far off vertically...
which model is the elac? dc62 or the dc52?
The 6.2.
Hello Danny! I have a pair of Klipsch XF-48 speakers...they are active speakers. Although they sound ok, I imagine they’ll sound even better if they were converted to passive speakers. Is that right? Is that something you can do?
I can, but there may also be better options in just starting over.
@@dannyrichie9743
Thanks so much for your honesty. It’s refreshing to experience that in the audio industry.
What happens when you put acoustic damping materiel on the outside of the front baffle of a speaker?
Stay tuned for the follow up on the Dynaudio model. That question will come up.
@@dannyrichie9743 Thanks Brother!
what model was the Elac center
ELAC - Debut 2.0 Dual 6-1/2" 2-Way Center-Channel Speaker - Black Ash
Danny, you've got great videos, and even more great trucks stop T-shirts. Can we get a timber wolf T shirt in your next video?!
I rarely buy my own cloths so who knows. I do know that someone gave it to me. And that someone knows I'm into speed. So it fit with my personality and it was a nice print.
Throw more crossover components into the mix that always fix's everything...NOT!
can't help but wonder if the slopping off in the top end of a center channel speaker is by design - - odd that both center channel speakers here roll off the top end
Center channel handles mostly dialogue and you don't really need much top end to reproduce that.
That’s not really true anymore. Current mixing trends are that about 70% of a film’s soundtrack goes through the front speakers (I’m not saying it ONLY goes through the center, just that in the front LCR mix, a lot of the L and R also goes through the C).
@@nathandaniels4823 Most people can't hear past 15khz so it does not matter.
@@pedrocols His measurements can hear it, isn't it all about the measurements and not your ears when listening to speakers???
Huh? I’m not talking about frequency response.
i think that mtm laying down horizontal is the worst idea, the whole point of center channel is for getting better horizontal dispersion for wider seating coverage. its better to use a 2 driver 2 way as center or place the mtm vertical. if you have only one listening spot the dont use a center channel.
Thats what I like about DC Tannoy speakers and centers no time delay off axis, I have the 15'' Golds, my next upgrade from ELAC, I use the Centers for surround, turning them vertical, sounds great.
Hi Danny, is that the Elac Debut 2.0?
Yes.
Is that a Elac 2.0 5.2 or 6.2 ?
someone does not bash at klispsch horn!
you can clue the klipsch horn from inside of speaker to lower the resonance frequency and measure it.
Going to recommend you guys to Steve Guttenberg, the Audiophiliac. He is a fan of the Klipsch and Elac speakers.
Dynadio...👍
I was just working on it a few minutes ago. I had to walk away from it for a while. Their drivers, by far, measure worse than any of the other speakers on the table.
So I've been noticing some of the stuff Danny's been talking about with my ears. So I tried running my Studio 590's without bi-amp for the first time, and I noticed some crapification happening. I switched to plugging in the mica cable to the HF terminal instead of the LF terminal and that made the crapificaton go away. So there you go, having the signal pass though those crappy jumper plates is not a good thing. LOL the Klipsch RF7 III with it's cheap plastic binding posts from RadioShack.
crappy jumper plates..... how bout all those solder points in amps etc.?
crapification comes from speakers backed against a wall only 3ft apart with reflection off a hard surface they are sitting on.
I would love to see Yamaha HS8's! On the sub end, the Yamaha HS8S!
The R41M is painted fiberglass, not cerametallic...
The woofers are injection molded graphite (IMG), actually. Says so right on their product page. www.klipsch.ca/products/r-41m-bookshelf-speaker
@@Orcinus24x5 Injection molded graphite fibers - which is a type of fiberglass - they are not a ceramic metallic.
With the harmon sales going on i hoppppppe you get some samples to test and mod. 3way center is at 100 and floor standing as low as 160 each.
Send them over and I'll take a look at them.
@@dannyrichie9743 I wanted to, but trying to explain to my wife that i was buying new speakers only to have them sent for testing and mods didnt go so well.
Did he mix up the impedance curves? Klipsch has the reputation for being easy to drive, Elac has the LOW impedance. Ooops!
You're talking about sensitivity. Klipsch are some of the most sensitive speakers in that budget range.
Danny, love your videos, but they’re making you more popular....you’re gonna have to hire someone to answer all those emails, or start directing folks through an automated Q&A to weed out the nonsense. Do it sooner rather than later, for your sanity!
Do you have upgrade kits for the Klipsch R28 floor standing speaker? is this speaker worth the upgrade?
I hear this over and over again. MTM speakers suffer from wave cancelation. People like to say it but nobody moves a mic around testing it. Given the thirst for youtube content and the simplicity of such a test, content I can only conclude the whole idea is vapor.
Elac And Dyna Audio yes 🙌. But Klipsch no thanks
HAY ERRRBAWDY
