Mein Herr, can I somehow get and purchase a red Ram shirt that you wear on some videos? I am your size, and if you have an old one I will happily make arrangements for that. I understand that it may be a souveneir for fans and not available. I can send you something old in return - ask me. Deal? Willard
That "red ram shirt" is part of the traditional Zillertal garb and is being called "Brustfleck" which is usually worn together with a "Tuxer" or a tyrolean "Janker". Those are usually custom-made and I would recommend to get in touch with a local garb-tailor in Tyrol or Salzburg (Austria). Also the ram embroidered to the shirt is uncommon, the Brustfleck usually gets embroidered with the coat of arms of Tyrol (a red/golden eagle) or is being left with ornaments around the edges only.
If this were a Spanish song there would be 10 translations in the comments....yet not in ONE Doe Mayrhofner tune have I found ONE translation. Come on my kraut brothers, be charitable and let us know what they're saying!
Sir, there aren't even german lyrics online. The problem is that they are singing using Austrian (German) dialect. Only Austrians and Bavarians will understand everything without problems. Other german-speaking people will have a hard time :) . The song was meant to bring attention to the cultural decay happening due to the anglicization of everything. It encourages you to stick to the good old (tyrolean) values and tradition. I made a translation for you including some annotations and explanations within the brackets: [yodeling] From Kufstein to the Brenner Pass are the Tourists and the peasantry, even the cows and chickens all together cloned now. Everything has to be english, "cool" and "mega-awesome". No-no, we will not take part, that's what we say right out. [Refrain:] Ho-la-da-re, we are Tyrolean boys, we've got a whetstone and a good grind [cutting edge] Ho-la-da-re, and high up the alps where Hofer [expl.: Andreas Hofer, is a tyrolian folk hero] and his folk already have been. Ho-la-da-re, we are Tyrolean boys and our heads are made out of stone pine [wood - known as the "queen of the alps"]. Ho-la-da-re we are blaring it out across our land, may god retain it. [yodeling] From Kufstein to the Brenner pass, a boat floats on the sky-blue Inn [a river in tyrol] What flows down (the river) is water, what flows back is profit Because what now rules is techno-sound, the U and A din [they mean "noise from the USA"] No-no, we will not take part we stay original. [Refrain] [yodeling] Yes, the hearts of the boys and girls are glowing, and we are yelling it out so loud that the mountains bend themselves [Refrain]
+analogkaese wow! Thanks analog...I knew I liked this song. I like it even better now! You're very helpful. Can you also tell me what the name of this style of music is? I don't mean the general genre, I mean the specific name of this rhythm/beat. For example, there is Argentinian folk music, but within that there is tango, zamba, chamame, etc etc. I love the beat, puts hair on my chest!
Hi, I am no expert on this field, sorry. All I know is that it's so called "Volkstümliche Musik" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkst%C3%BCmliche_Musik), which is based on traditional german/austrian/swiss folk music. Even though I am young (mostly older people here in Austria enjoy this kind of music), I really like it as it reminds me of holidays in the mountains :)
