      As someone who's sold adopts before when I was a teen, I wouldn't care about nfts if the way they were sold wasn't set up as a rug pulling scam by rich people to get even richer and if it wasn't harming the environment. If it was just how a normal art transaction happens, then who cares lmao

      It’s largely because the entire concept is a scam. They marketed them as you buying something on a block chain when in reality the most you were doing was buying the right to know the location of the file.

    I'm surprised that no one seems to have pointed out the obvious "eye burning" issue yet.
    These were NOT UV stage lights. They used germicidal UVC lamps which are hazardous to the eyes and skin.
    People experienced what's also known as "welder's eye" , "arc eye" or "photokeratitis". Welders who don't use eye protection experience the same issues.

    • @Sparks68
      @Sparks68 8 months ago

      @helbent4 It was done by a Chinese company. They're notorious for using shoddy and unsafe materials, and not building anything to "code'" or Best Practices. The resulting construction work is commonly referred to as "tofu-dregs".

    • @VCV95
      @VCV95 7 months ago +20

      @helbent4if you allow a venue you paid for to injure people, it's your fault. Knowing the history of Yuga, I'm not sure it wasn't purposeful, with an "oh no, what happened" after.

    • @PointsofData
      @PointsofData 3 months ago

      @VCV95
      Look I hate Yuga but there's zero upside to them using the wrong lighting that has a risk of injuring people. The cost difference between using UV lights and UVC can't have been so much that Yuga SAID to do this. They've made millions of dollars off their NFT's, they're throwing parties and hiring celebrities to be there, why would lighting be the very specific and only place they cheap out? It makes way more sense that a contractor found a way to cheap out (probably already had these lights or knew a hospital getting rid of them or something like that) so they could charge more but spend less, and thought it wouldn't be detectable.

      I had a similar conversation with a guy in a group I'm in and explained to them that NFTs are like going to a store, buying something, and then not getting the actual thing but a chance to just view said item. It was supposed to be a reasonable explanation / conversation, but the guy clearly got fired up when I pointed out these facts and mentioned he clearly hasn't done his research if he kept spouting the usual spiel of what makes NFTs so "Great". There really is no saving these people and I wish them all bankruptcy for following such a pointless trend.

      I can see a select few doing so. Like what Snoop did. He bought one that fit his image, and he used it as a logo/mascot for a product. Doing this probably gave him some free advertising/product-awareness, aiding the launch of his product. His probably made him money, without needing to sell it to another sucker.
      But for everyone else, yeah, it should have been obvious they had no value. Just a gag gift type thing so you can say "I participated in this meme" and laugh.

      @ANPC-pi9vueasy. Normal people were being exposed to it via their video games and other media's. Companies like UBISOFT and EA (Yes they're bad companies, doesn't stop others from buying their garbage) were attempting to "incorporate" nfts into their games.
      So it did have affects on the average person.

      @guyferrari8124 Most NFTs never made any money for anybody but the creators. Either because they never sold enough to ever get to the dumping part of a pump and dump or because the project was some other kind of scam.
      So for his friends to have been lucky they would have had to buy in early on one of the pump and dump schemes that went all the way in particular, and then happen to sell right when the dump started.
      Possible, of course, but for all we know they might have also just won the lottery in the meantime.

      As someone who knows some people who were in this scene. From their own mouths, think of it like Fox News. It’s just abusing a loop hole. Like how they have news in the name but rarely give actual news, this is just a loophole where when they inevitably are worth no money, they’ve already made off with their money. It was a scam from the start

      Think of it like the digital version of those “Own a Star in the Sky!!” scams that were super popular back in the day. Most of those companies were caught “selling” the same star over and over because there is no real way for their customers to prove they own the star other than the certificate the company would mail them. Same idea, people spending money on the idea of owning something intangible.

    They were not even buying a picture, they were buying a link to a folder containing the picture. So easy for the seller to cash the bitcoins and then delete the picture from the folder. The buyer was left with just an error message and nothing to show for all their cash. I don't know much about the blockchain or even about computers but you didn't need to be a genius to realize that buying NFTs was just a waste of money.

    • @stephen2224
      @stephen2224 8 months ago +15

      this.. literally is not how they work. No one was left with any sort of error message, and you can't just remove something from the blockchain. Because of that fact, it gives proof of ownership of SOMETHING verifiably and in a way that the NFT cannot be changed by anyone... The tech behind nfts is really cool, but the use cases that became most popular made everyone hate the term

    • @Burkhart4192
      @Burkhart4192 8 months ago

      @stephen2224 Yes, you can't remove anything from the block chain. But images are so big it would cost a fortune to put them on it, so instead sellers will upload them elsewhere and put a URL pointing to it on the chain. As soon as the image is deleted or moved, that URL becomes worthless.

    • @alephalpha
      @alephalpha 8 months ago +14

      @stephen2224 I'm just repeating stuff I've seen online but maybe I understood it wrong. My point is that spending 20k or 50k for a link to a jpeg image stored on the blockchain was not a wise financial decision. You could spend the same amount to commission an artist to make a piece of art especially for you. Something you would hang on your wall and pass on to your kids and grandkids.

    Can't think of NFTs without thinking of the kid who set the "all my apes gone" tweet to the tune of California Dreaming, which still brings me joy.
    EDIT: That Banana Splits part is the most tin-foil hat thing I've heard outside of Facebook.

    Couldn’t care less about the video’s inaccuracies, just glad NFTs fell off 😂

    Nothing is worth $4B until somebody actually pays $4B for it

    This sounds just like an updated version of the South Sea Bubble.
    The value of a bored ape NFT seems to be what someone else is prepared to pay for it - no more, no less.

      That's how literally everything that is sold on the entire planet works. You can claim a shoe you found on the streets is worth $1million, but if no one would pay more than $1 for it then that's what it's worth.

      @axeldiaz7441 It does seem to be the way of the world, I agree. "Beam me up, Scottie. No intelligent life down here!"

      @axeldiaz7441 Real things have tangible value due to like-things being cheaper/better quality. NFTs, as everyone figured out, were a big scam for money laundering, and weren't actually worth anything at all, ever. Claiming something has value because it can be used to launder money is to not understand what "value" is.
