Hi Michael, thanks for your content. I wonder if the URD would be possible to connect it to the eversolo a6 with usb and use it to rip cd. It would be awesome
I appreciate your review, Mike, even though you said the unmagic words "analog-like." (Reminds me of the '80's phrase "CD-quality sound.") I prefer my audio to sound "like music." I have a CD drive from Pro-ject (discontinued now) that also uses mechanics by that Austrian company and it's a party in an aluminum box 😜! With separate components, you can trade DACs if your mood calls for it like some folks trade phono carts.
I remember an episode of Top Gear where they reviewed a Porsche 911 that was prepped for track use. Porsche took out the radio, they took out the air conditioning, they removed the door cards and replaced door handles with straps. So what you got was a 911 with a bunch of stuff removed from it and for that privilege you paid way more than the 911 model it was derived from. That's what CD transports remind me of. They take out the most expensive component and then charge you double. It would be another thing altogether if a good transport cost less than a good CD player with a good DAC in it (good, not necessarily great even).....but that doesn't seem to be the case. I can't help but feel that once again we audiophiles are being had. But who could blame them..........we're such easy targets.
It’s all about how you look at it, the fact that they were able to dump a lot of tech into a transport is admirable. I hope to see a CD player from them someday!
CD player or Transport has pros and cons for each. I don't feel either way is particularly better than the other but schitt's approach to their first transport is interesting and a bit different.
Its a bit curious why a new cd player (transport) would be out of the ordinary.....the masses went streaming for all you can eat tracks like fast food....yet Rotel, Denon, NAD and handful of others have been producing great cd players every year since the 80's. I might take a Schitt after this review.....nicely done Michael
It resonates with me as well regarding old school vintage stereos. Everything now is sterile, no physical media to hold. We are from a bygone era where actual products you held and played with were king and not this virtual crap they think we want. Good luck with your sabbatical.
Looks like another nice product from Schiit Audio. The amount of time I devote to cd's these days is minimal. Not sure if you ever mentioned bypassing the old dac. Only RCA's on my Onkyo cd player
if I closed my eyes and the cd played on a DVD player vs this new unit would I hear the difference ? I love CD's but the world is streaming now and its not going back. i just saw the price $ 1350. this thing wont make it.
streaming requires internet connection & rental of music, this requires neither. Also streaming compresses audio. WRT hearing a difference, many say they do, I never used a transport & mega priced DAC, so I can't say
4:09 They are not alone. And it sucks. Transports are getting a bit too spartan these days; I remember the good old days with buttons for programming, time remaining, total time remaining, repeat, shuffle, etc. No numeric buttons for direct track access or programming? If I want track 21 I need to press the ">" button 21 times and then press the "Play" button? Look at the Marantz CD 94 with the button cover flipped down; _thats_ what a CD player should look like!
no numeric buttons = deal breaker for me, and I suspect I'm not alone -- the idea of having to press the forward button 21 times to get to track 21 is just ridiculous
I forgot to mention in the review it does come with a remote which makes things easier. However I understand your concerns, I do have a vintage player with a lot of buttons and features that aren’t seen in newer products.
On the other hand…if you do that a lot there’s streaming or ripping to HDD. For me CDs are about playing the whole album when I have time to enjoy the whole process. 😎
@@andygilbert1877 I do that too most of the time, but if you just want to play a few specific numbers, or just skip one, having those options on a CD player can be handy. And really, in the early days of CD players all these options were completely standard; most players had them. Now they are a rarity, and then often only to be found on the remote.

I have a CD drive from Pro-ject (discontinued now) that also uses mechanics by that Austrian company and it's a party in an aluminum box 😜! With separate components, you can trade DACs if your mood calls for it like some folks trade phono carts.
That’s how I view it, I love trying different DACs!
What is a cd transport? Like a briefcase for cds? I have an old portable cd player but sounds weak
I agree ☝️
I was very curious about this until we arrived at the $1,300.00 price.
Stûhl are another high quality brand worth pushing out there.
I hope everything is ok. I like your content and the way you explain what you are reviewing., and why come to your conclusions.
Thank you my friend.
They missed the boat with Schiit Turd.
pricey. the Shanling et3 is $700 and has i2s. perhaps you could review it?
Definitely not for lack of trying, I’ve been trying with them to no avail. I think the Shanling is a contender on paper for sure!
Yes yes yes yes.
Thank you my dear friend!
$1300 USD
(Gulp!)
if I closed my eyes and the cd played on a DVD player vs this new unit would I hear the difference ? I love CD's but the world is streaming now and its not going back. i just saw the price $ 1350. this thing wont make it.
streaming requires internet connection & rental of music, this requires neither. Also streaming compresses audio. WRT hearing a difference, many say they do, I never used a transport & mega priced DAC, so I can't say
It needs I2s output !
Otherwise it makes no sense
That would have been cool.
As an influencer do you think it is still viable to recommend the use of CD players in 2024? I don't waste money.
@@audioarkitekts Good to know, thanks -- stay healthy
On the other hand…if you do that a lot there’s streaming or ripping to HDD. For me CDs are about playing the whole album when I have time to enjoy the whole process. 😎
@@andygilbert1877 I do that too most of the time, but if you just want to play a few specific numbers, or just skip one, having those options on a CD player can be handy. And really, in the early days of CD players all these options were completely standard; most players had them. Now they are a rarity, and then often only to be found on the remote.
