I would highly recommend anybody who likes this song to pick up their one and only album from 1992 Arc Angels. The album is just filled with fantastic song after fantastic song.
The Arc Angels first formed immediately after Stevie Ray Vaughan's untimely death on August 27, 1990 by helicopter crash. The "Arc" in the band's name is an acronym for Austin Rehearsal Complex, where the members of the band first started jamming.
When I First Heard Even The NAME Arc Angels - & I Knew Chris & Tommy Were Involved - I KNEW Stevie Was ALL OVER It!! BIG DOYLE, Too!! He & Stevie Loved Writing Together! FABULOUS!!! Stevie Is STILL With Us, Folks......Just Listen...... You Are MISSED, Stevie!! Soul💞Soul💗😘
I was fortunate enough with my brother to be able to catch Stevie that Friday across the lake in Kalamazoo Michigan , my brother had good insight we were early and he said we should stand in front of this mike, turned out to be Stevie’s mike, absolutely awestruck for the whole show. He outshined George thorogood
That was a fun performance! I loved that bouncy groove, 🎶da da dadada da🎶, I don't know if i got that right, lol. Thank you, Fil! That was a spectacular analysis! 🎸🤘
Nice analysis Fil. I saw Arc Angels perform at the Cabooze Bar in Minneapolis in 1992. Incredible show. A bit surreal since the last time I had seen Double Trouble prior to that was at Alpine Valley the night SRV died. As a side note to correct the believe the band started after SRV's death: I saw an interview with Tommy Shannon where he said the 4 of them had started jamming at the Austin Rehersal Complex before Stevie died. Stevie and Jimmy had been recording Family Style and had plans to take a new band on tour in support of that album. Tommy and Chris started jamming with Doyle and Charlie to keep busy. The roots of Arc Angels started before Stevie died.
All of your analysis videos are informative and relate to what going in the performance. now and then you get a request that hit home for you, like this one we can see it in your expressions. 🤘🎸
First for the first time This is an awesome performance and amazing groove. I love seeing your enjoyment on your face. Keep up on these great analysis Fill.
Cool song with a funky groove! It is fascinating to watch a left-handed guitarist play. I enjoyed this analysis and you did a great job of breaking down the notes on your guitar.
Going to see these gents next Friday (nov 18) in Cedar Park (Austin,tx suburb). It's been a while, always a good time (pun intended). As always Fil, great job.
I was a fan of Charlie Sexton back in the mid-to-late 80's when he released "Beat's So Lonely", but only discovered Arc Angels about 10 years ago or so.
Please do not forget that Doyle's father was a great drummer who played with Stevie Ray and other members of the Austin scene at the start.of SRV's career.
You nailed it - A joy to listen to this performance from these top level musicians. Every one of them... I absolutely love Chris' drumming and Tommy's bass - the heartbeat. Doyle, Charlie... all four are one charismatic band. And they are still knocking it out 30 years later.
Damn, what a great band Arc Angels were. Their sole album is very highly recommended. I had one glorious weekend where I saw Joe Ely with Reese Wynans on Friday then saw Arc Angels with Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon on Saturday. It was the next best thing to seeing Stevie Ray himself.
Wow! That was pretty awesome. That singer had a massive amount of hair and I think he had a massive amount of blue bobbles on his right fingers? I saw a lot of blue somethings there in a glimpse. Pretty cool. I'm learning a lot about music from Fil. Extremely educational. 👍.

You're having so much fun doing the video! Miss Stevie. Another really great analysis and crank it up to 11. (Caution, drummer may melt into tiny globules or explode.)
Hi Fil, I recommend you check out a late 90's band called Storyville which contained Chris Layton & Tommy Shannon. I managed to see them live in a club in Phoenix in 97 fantastic band but short lived.
What a well named song, I definitely had a "Good Time" watching this performance. I think you did too Analysing it Fil, how did I figure you get out your guitar 🎸 lol.
Merci for this. I didn't know that DT went on after Stevie's death, but they were such a great band and it doesn't surprise me. I have a Doors record they recorded after Jim died. Or did he? I'll go put on my tin foil hat now...
Did you know that bassist Tommy Shannon first played with Johnny Winter? In fact he played with Johnny at Woodstock. Too bad Arc Angels only put out one album. "Too Many Ways to Fall" on the album is my favorite, bought it when it first came out.
A lot of lefties play with a reversed string pattern. In a righthanded world, a guitar laying around the house would force a lefthanded beginner to adapt to a reverse string setup if he couldn't begin on a lefty strung ax.
Well, yeah. Doyle Bramhall II had the unique experience of growing up listening to Stevie play, in person, all the damned time, because Stevie and his dad, Doyle Bramhall I, were close friends, and wrote a lot of songs together. (I know this from first hand experience because DBII's stepmom has been my mom's best friend since Jr. High. 🙂) Doyle (II) was paying attention while learning at the feet of a master, and is an even better player now than he was then as a result.
What would be your top 5 tightest rock riffs. Mine would be in no particular order,”The Sultans of Swing” by “Dire Straights”,”Heard it in a Love Song” by “The Marshall Tucker Band”, “A Man I’ll Never Be” by “Boston”, “Lyin’Eyes” by “the Eagles” and “Funeral For a Friend - Love Lies Bleeding” by Sir Elton John. Honorable Mentions go out to “Stairway to Heaven” by “Led Zeppelin” and “Changes” by “Yes”.
You don’t mention the fact that Doyle has two vintage black faced twins most likely cranked! That is giving this song a lot of the umph and vibe it has imo! Sextons using his Demeter tga3 rack mount with a more modern sound palette
You KNOW I am admiring the host of the show... Stevie's band is very good, though, I do say it. Is that a Stevie Ray Vaughn shirt peaking out from under your jacket??? 🙂 Wishing you a wondeful day, Fil!!

The effect is a Leslie, I think a real one on the album, but Doyle used to have a Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere on his board. He's probably using something different now.
Hey Fil, I hope it´s ok to drop a request just here in the comments, but I guess you as a Queen fan would have fun with it. I just discovered the new song of Allan/Olzon "All Alone" and since Russell Allen is one of my favorite singers (on the same height as Freddie and Devin Townsend, for me, personally) I would be very interested to see how you would analyze his vocals including your pitch software. I am not such a big Nightwish fan as I love Symphony X, but the microtonal decisions Annette Olzon makes (conciously or subconciously) in this song are also very interesting: Once she makes something I would describe as the clean version of a Hetfield triller: More than slightly sharp, (quartertone-ish, I´d assume, but idk) bending one note down and up again but then hitting the note, all within one second (double meaning, haha ;-) ) And if you like good singing and songwriting in progressive metal style, check out mid-era Symphony X. From "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy" to "The Oddyssey" all albums are flawless. And I think as a Queen fan you will love SX too, if you are not familar with it yet anyway.
I saw SRV in Memphis,TN USA right before he died. The venue, either the Orpheum or NorthHall Auditorium, can't recall, really messed up the audio. So loud it shook the walls and distorted the sound. Probably the Orpheum. That place wasn't built for those kind of musicians.
