I find it really cool how with the reveal of luffys true devil fruit, the world govt. said that the fruit can be used to fight in any way the user imagines. With that being said, luffy isn't aware of his true abilities, so he uses moves that make sense in HIS mind. like how culverin changes direction midair and keeps accelerating, those aren't properties of rubber like Kaido said, but luffy honestly believes that is how rubber works.

probably gear 3 is also affected by luffy's thoughts. because if you hit with a very big balloon you will not cause more damage like gear 3 does
