This ending you quoted is my all-time favorite Stooge short ending! Probably because I would react the same as Shemp did if I were in a similar situation... 🤣
I just did some research about the episode Brideless Groom and found out that one of the supporting actresses in the episode named Nancy Saunders, died on 6/13/2020 at the age of 94. That’s fairly recent. I like doing research to see if any Stooge supporting actors/actresses are still alive. Here are some fun facts about the episode: Emil Sitka is the name of the actor who played the justice of the peace. On his headstone it says "Hold Hands, You Lovebirds". I think that is very sweet. One more fun fact is that during the scene where Christine McIntyre thinks Shemp is her cousin Basil and then proceeds to slap him around and then finally punch him through the door. Christine had trouble doing the scene because she didn’t want to hurt Shemp. This is how the director Edward Bernds described it: "In the story, Shemp had a few hours in which to get married if he wanted to inherit his uncle's fortune. He called on Christine McIntyre, who mistook him for her cousin (Basil), took him to her apartment and greeted him with hugs and kisses. Then the real cousin phoned and she accused Shemp of kissing her, as it were, under false pretenses. At this point, she was supposed to slap Shemp around. Lady that she was, McIntyre couldn't do it right; she dabbed at him daintily, afraid of hurting him. After a couple of bad takes Shemp pleaded with her. "Honey," he said, "if you want to do me a favor, cut loose and do it right. A lot of half-hearted slaps hurt more than one good one. Give it to me, Chris, and let's get it over with". She got up her courage and, on the next take, let Shemp have it. It wound up as a whole series of slaps - the timing was beautiful; they rang out like pistol shots. Shemp was knocked into a chair, bounced up, met another ringing slap, fell down again, scrambled up, trying to explain, only to get another stinging slap. Then Chris delivered a haymaker - a right that knocked Shemp through the door. When the take was over, Shemp was groggy, really groggy. His nose was broken. Chris put her arms around him and apologized tearfully. "It's alright, honey," Shemp said painfully. "I said you should cut loose and you did. You sure as hell did!"
@@crystalgemgirl731 Yeah! How about the part where Moe and Shemp are tangled in the phone cord? MOE: "Can you dial from there?" SHEMP: No. Can you?" MOE: "Yeah. (starts dialing Shemp's eyes.)" SHEMP: "Ow! OW!"
Shemp was my favorite stooge. And fun fact shemp was the original 3rd member before curly. So he’s technically not really a replacement. But I think after shooting a few episodes he didn’t want to do it anymore or something like that. So he got replace with Curly. But then Curly got sick and died so Shemp came Back
Yeah Shemp was with them when they were with Ted Healy but didn't like Ted Abusive ways when he got Drunk so he went on his own I heard and Came back when Curly suffered a Stroke
Shemp didn't actually want to come back cause his solo career was going so well, but realizing Moe & Larry were SOL he agreed to come back on a temporary basis until Curly recovered. But Curly never recovered.😞
Dee Green, the actor who played Miss Dinkelmeyer, was actually a talented vocalist, as shown by her ability to wreck “Voices of Spring” in her inimitable way. She taught music and choir in Peoria, Illinois. And by all accounts, she was quite good
I was glad of that, too, because Larry is my favorite one. They each used to have pretty even lines until about 1938-1944. From there, they mostly focused on Moe and Curly most of the time.
Shemp has always been my favorite Stooge. He is the original. Ted Healey and His Stooge. He is also the oldest of the Howard brothers. Fun Fact, in the scene where Christine McIntyre is supposed to slap cousin Basil she couldn't make it look real (she was too nice to hit) so Shemp whispered something derogatory to her and those slap on film are real. He never said what he whispered. He did make up with her and she forgave him.
Shemp told her to just "get the hits/punches over and to really let him have it." After filming and apologizing to Shemp, who suffered a broken nose, he told Christine, "You sure as hell let me have it. You sure as hell did."
I love this episode. Christine McIntire, who played Miss Hopkins, was not comfortable slapping Shemp around in that scene, but Shemp told her after a couple takes to just let him have it. He said "A bunch of half hearted slaps hurt more than one big one...so let me have it, Chris." She did it, and after the take was over, she rushed over to Shemp, who was very groggy after the scene, and she asked him if he was ok. He told her, "I told you to let me have it and you did. You sure as hell did."
There's a lot of great lines in this short, but my favorite line in this is "you wouldn't hit a lady with that?... use this, it's bigger". That's a very good joke. Second favorite line is "that was before I read the papers. Now I accept. Okay, toots. Let er rip" 😂 the timing and talent that actress has👌 I also felt the same way about Shemp as you did. It wasn't until a few years ago that I began to appreciate him as a stooge.
The "Voices of Spring" record at the very beginning was actually sung by Christine McIntyre (Miss Hopkins) the blonde who thought Shemp was Cousin Basil.
The biggest laugh in this one for me is Shemp's "Moe, where's your hat?!?" in the phone booth scene, as well as when Shemp's face is smashed against the glass.
I have every 3 Stooges episode from Curly to Joe Besser from 1934-1959 and Joe Durita from 1959 until their retirement and Larry's first stroke in 1970; actually Shemp was actually with Moe and Larry and Ted Healy until 1934 and he decided to go pursue a movie career so he was replaced by Curly from 1934 until his first stroke in 1947 and then he came back from 1947 until his death in 1955
It makes me flinch a little knowing that the punch was legit, and Christine was screaming in pain to get it over with, then sob and apologize to Shemp after it was over.
Shemp is just as funny as Curly, but in a different way. One thing that makes them both funny, is what you do with their hair. Of course Curly's name itself is a joke off his no hair, and we consistently see him grabbed there, and Moe comes up empty (Curly had an empty skull too you know). Shemp's hair is funny too, because it always goes flying when he gets beat up, etc. I think Shemp had the longest hair of the whole team.
Yes but Curly was called Curly because he had curly red hair. When he applied to replace Shemp he had his hair grown out and a mustache but he was told that curly hair wasn’t funny so he went and shaved it all off and came back and asked if he was funny now. In real life. Shemp and Moe and Curly were brothers and Larry was a childish friend of theirs. Their names in the show were their real life nicknames. Shemp’s real name was Samuel. But when his mother, who was from Lithuania, tried to say Sam it sounded like Shemp and it stuck. Moe’s real name was Moses and Moe was his nickname. Curly was curly because of his hair and Larry’s real name was Lawrence.
@@thefreeman8791the urban legend is when he saw himself bald for the first time he said "I look like a girly" it was misheard as Curly and the name stuck.

I read someplace that the reason why Shemp left the Stooges was because he was afraid of Ted Healey who was a heavy drinker and often scared Shemp with his temper.

Little bit of trivia: Christine McIntyre had a hard time with the Shemp slapping scene. She felt horrible laying into him like that, but Shemp told her “It’s okay, really let me have it!” After the scene was over, she was so upset, she cried.
"Hold hands, you lovebirds" soon became the most famous line in the short, and is even on Emil Sitka's tombstone. When the Stooges disbanded in 1970 following Larry's stroke, Sitka formed the core of The New Stooges, playing the role of Harry. But they never took off, and themselves disbanded within a year.
Apart from a promo photo, Sitka never did any actual performances with Moe or Curly Joe, as Moe decided after Larry's passing to just retire the act (he died just a few months later), though Curly Joe attempted to keep the act going (without Sitka), but that version of the Stooges quickly ended after a few appearance.
@3:46min Larry was an accomplished musician. He could play violin 🎻 💀 viola cello or bass fiddle 🎻 as well as piano 🎹. It is never ceased to amaze me how he seemed to be the most underrated Stooge. He was a very laid back type.
Yes,Shemp was in everything, back in the 30's and 40's.Abbott and Costello,WC Fields,The Andrew Sisters(Private Buckaroo)Pittsburgh,(John Wayne),I just finally saw Hellzapoppin('41),with Olsen and Johnson, big Universal comedy team,he played Johnson's cousin Louie Martha Raye was also in it.
Shemp and Moe were Ted Healy's two "stooges" onstage even before they discovered Larry doing his vaudeville act and invited him to join them. When Curly had to quit due to illness, Shemp left a successful solo career to rejoin the Stooges. I enjoyed your reaction.
Shemp left the group because he didn't trust Ted Healy. Shemp, Moe and Curly are brothers with Curly is the youngest out of them. Their family's name for Curly is "Babe" because he is the youngest of the brothers. Curly didn't have any formal training when he stepped in for his brother, Shemp. When Curly suffered strokes, Shemp came back. Both of them died few years apart. Their brother, Moe (Moses) and Larry continued with replacements until both of them died months apart in 1975
Somewhere on RUclips I have seen a clip of Moe on the old Mike Douglas daytime talk show. Moe was married to the same woman for over 50 years and Mike introduced her because she was in the audience. Moe walked out into the crowd to greet his wife and when he did she hit him in the face with a pie.
This short and Disorder In The Court are me and my best friends favorite Stooges film. Even Malice in the Palace when Larry is chopping up the vegetables and the dog is barking on the window and Larry and Moe think Larry’s chopping up the dog. That’s hilarious!!!
Glad to see someone appreciate Shemp! Curley was really Shemp's replacement, not the other way around. Shemp was an original Stooge! His talent and humor was different than Curley's, but just as great!
What I like about Kay's reactions ,is she doesn't block out the sounds of the three stooges, for someone so young, Kay you know your comedies, and I love your laugh, keep up the good work Kay, you are brilliant!!!!
Another great show, thank you. I have seen that one a few times, I laugh every time. Shemp is just as funny as Curly. They each had their own method of doing things. I think there is another version of this one possibly with a deleted scene. Thanks again.
In reality, Curly was Shemp's replacement. It also took me a while to appreciate Shemp's talents. As I got a little older I began to realize that Shemp was an artist, himself and now, at 55, I love the episodes that include him. I can watch their episodes anytime, day or night and they never disappoint. They are true legends.
Curly was actually Shemp's replacement from the original trio when Shemp left the act in the early 30's to pursue a successful solo career. It was only after Curly's health began to decline in the mid 40's that Shemp came back to save the act. He was a stand-up guy and my favorite 3rd stooge. Nothing against Curly though. He was amazing in his own right.
Interesting story about Shemp. Before they were the "three stooges " they worked with Ted Healy, it was originally Moe, Larry, and Shemp. Over time Shemp wanted to move on and with Moe, Shemp and Curly all being brothers, they had Curly replace Shemp and they left Ted and did there own thing. Curly unfortunately couldn't continue after a stroke and health problems so Shemp took over. Unfortunately, Curly passed in 1952 and Shemp in 1955.
These guys are hilarious, they say laughter is the best medicine, I don't know about that, I nearly stopped breathing looking at these exceptional comedians. Hi Kay if you have the time, check out , a snitch in time, poor Moe gets an awful time with Larry and shemp....
I’ve been watching this episode since I was a kid and would rewind almost every scene that cracked me up. Especially when Moe and Shemp were stuck in the phone booth and the expression on Larry’s face after getting punched. Watching this for the first time as a toddler my dad and I wouldn’t stop rewinding the part where Shemp hits his face on the piano. I have so many memories with this episode from watching it with my dad to watching it with my friends and seeing others react to it is so awesome.
Christine McIntyre looked like she was really connecting with some of those slaps. She was also a classically trained singer. When she answers the phone and says "Hello" to Uncle Basil, it seems to have a very melodic tone to it and her soprano voice seems to come out.
She was very reluctant to hit Shemp, and he had to ask her to cut loose and let him have it. Did she ever. The director said her slaps rang out like pistol shots.
@@markschildberg1667 Yeah, she really let him have it. I love it when he puts up his arms to protect himself and Christine says "Don't you dare strike me! Taking advantage of a poor helpless, defenseless woman!". Really funny. My favorite Shemp scene.
You have great taste in comedy, and I enjoyed this with you. Your reactions were spot on. A lot of comedy critics consider Shemp to be the most polished of the Howard brothers in his technique. My favorite Shemp line comes from the Pardon My Clutch episode when after Larry gets lassoed around the neck and hoisted up with the luggage , and Shemp scolds him and says; "You can't ride that way, you'll unbalance the load !"
Shemp's love interest in the movie - Dee Green - was actually an excellent singer and it's fairly easy to tell in the beginning that she is struggling somewhat to sing off-key.
I don't know a lot of female Stooge fans out there so it's refreshing to see your reaction to these shorts, great reaction to Bridless Groom. Keep up the great work Kay.
surely you know, but in reallity not only was Shemp the older of the three Howard brothers (there were 5 in total, but only the three younger became stooges) but also he was in the original Ted Healy act with Moe, so TECHNICALLY Curly was the replacement, and shemp the OG hehehe (they were all amazing, and I love Larry Fine for being able to become such a great complement to what could've easily be a Family act....no to mention the fact that he was a violinist). Great Videos!
12:38 The punch was real. Shemp told the actress to hit him as hard as she can. As she refused, he said “Honey, if you want to do a favour, cut loose and do it right.”
Definitely one of my favorites and this was the first Shemp short I ever watched too. I'm glad to have grown up watching Shemp and not just Curly. I was so confused why Curly wasn't there as a kid but I've come to understand over the years.
The timeline goes like this it started as Moe, Larry & Shemp. Shemp left to pursue a solo career. He was replaced with Curly, Curly suffered a series of small strokes between 1944 and 1946. During Half-wits holiday, he suffered a massive stroke and left to recover, Shemp came back on a temporary basis in the hopes that Curly could recover and return but it never happened (Curly died in 1952). In 1955 Shemp suddenly passed away suffering a heart attack in the back seat of a taxi. Since they had contracts to fulfill Joe Palma served as a body double and was used to finish the remaining shorts for the year (colloquially known as "fake shemp"). As a replacement they hired Joe Besser in 1957 he only stayed for a year, leaving to care for his ailing wife. But Columbia stretched it by not releasing all those shorts until 1960. Larry & Moe considered retiring but after seeing Joe DeRita at a show in Las Vegas, they brought him in and revived the act and kept it going until 1965. In 1970 they planned to revive the act again with a new travelogue series called "kook's tour" but that got shelved when Larry suffered a stroke during production of the "pilot" forcing some choppy editing with a body double and it wasnt picked up by any networks anyway. (Larry died in 1975). Joe DeRita got Moe's consent to revive the act with 2 other actors but it was poorly received. There were plans for another revival with Emil Sitka (hold hands you lovebirds) joining Moe & Joe replacing Larry as Harry but it never came to be, in 1975 Moe passed from lung cancer shortly before they were due to film a movie called The Jet Set (only about 4 months after Larry's passing). (It got reworked as blazing stewardesses with the Ritz brothers fyi). Besser passed in 1988 from heart failure, DeRita passed in 1993 from pneumonia.
Actually Curly was a replacement for Shemp, who was a replacement for Curly. In the original lineup it was Ted Healy and his stooges Shemp, Moe and Larry. Shemp went solo and the Stooges separated from Healy. Shemp came back after Curly had to step down.
The moment at 12:36 - the actress accidentally broke Shemp's nose with that punch. He had told her not to hold back when they were rehearsing the scene, and well... she didn't.
That short was actually several years later than this one, using stock footage. One of the cost cutting techniques that the studio used in it's shorts department was to make shorts that consisted of anywhere from 50% to 90% recycled footage from prior efforts andenough new footage for passing them off as something new. That's where the "fake Shemps" came from.
Now that drawer had to be balsa wood. By far the lightest most flimsy wood ever. When I was a kid we had toy planes made out of it and if you weren't very careful when assembling it you would crack the wing. You attached the rubber band to the propeller, wound the propeller and off you go. A lot of times OT would fly onto someone roof and it was gone for good. I had the long distance record. It flew over a house almost 1/4 of a block away and landed on the sidewalk.
Christine McIntyre and Shemp had such great comedic chemistry. Every scene they do together is brilliant.

Little bit of trivia: Christine McIntyre had a hard time with the Shemp slapping scene. She felt horrible laying into him like that, but Shemp told her “It’s okay, really let me have it!” After the scene was over, she was so upset, she cried.
Yeah I heard that punch really landed 😬
@@masternoob9673 Yeah, she broke his nose.
Well, he asked for it.
Sitka was from Pittsburgh and that's what The Stooges called him
In PULP FICTION, Eric Stolz's character is seen watching this short and the line is heard.
One of the funniest stooges' short, if not the funniest!
Whenever Moe slapped Shemp and his hair would fall over his face. Insane! :-)
@3:46min Larry was an accomplished musician. He could play violin 🎻 💀 viola cello or bass fiddle 🎻 as well as piano 🎹. It is never ceased to amaze me how he seemed to be the most underrated Stooge. He was a very laid back type.
The Three Stooges is an absolute classic. I grew up watching it because my old man did back in the day and I couldn’t get enough lol. Top tier comedy
That's parenting. My dad made me a fan during the mid-1990s and renting videoes at Blockbusters.
@@alexphillips4644 Unfortunately Blockbuster Video no longer exists.
@@kevinmiller6324 I know...but back then, it was a golden age of movie retal entertainment.
Their brother, Moe (Moses) and Larry continued with replacements until both of them died months apart in 1975
That was so sweet of him, he didn't have to, but he did for his brother.
One of my favorite episodes of all of them
Somewhere on RUclips I have seen a clip of Moe on the old Mike Douglas daytime talk show. Moe was married to the same woman for over 50 years and Mike introduced her because she was in the audience. Moe walked out into the crowd to greet his wife and when he did she hit him in the face with a pie.
Man, I love all the sound-effects...cloth tearing when the hair is grabbed. I'm expired.
"a poor weak helpless woman...."
*Proceeds to beat the living crap out of Shemp*
-Classic. :)
You know, she didn't want to do that, she was a real lady and didn't want to hurt anyone, it took Shemp a little coaxing toget her to do it.
This short and Disorder In The Court are me and my best friends favorite Stooges film. Even Malice in the Palace when Larry is chopping up the vegetables and the dog is barking on the window and Larry and Moe think Larry’s chopping up the dog. That’s hilarious!!!
When I was a kid I laughed so hard at eating the cat!
Crazy to think that Moe, Shemp and Curly were brothers in real life
Technically Shemp was the original Stooge before Curly took over.
funny thing is to when Christine punched Shemp through the door, that was a real punch and Shemp really did fall through the door
You are correct and Shemp's nose was broken when Christine punched him.
@@fan.80s_90s he couldn't help it that he wasn't cousin Basil
Glad to see someone appreciate Shemp! Curley was really Shemp's replacement, not the other way around. Shemp was an original Stooge! His talent and humor was different than Curley's, but just as great!
Curly and Shemp actually replaced each other.
Curley was better they never gave him the chance
@@Scaredofficials46 Yes he was. :)
@@mmarston332 no Curley replaced Shemp.
@@bleedinggreennation8291 True, but Shemp returned after Curly's stroke in "Half-Wit's Holiday".
shemp, curly, and moe are brother's, if you didn't know.
i love the stooge's lol.
What I like about Kay's reactions ,is she doesn't block out the sounds of the three stooges, for someone so young, Kay you know your comedies, and I love your laugh, keep up the good work Kay, you are brilliant!!!!
Gives me nostalgic memory. I watched since I was a kid.
In their previous short, Curly made a cameo appearance.
You should also check out Sing A Song Of Six Pants and Malice In The Palace. Those are hilarious and also have Shemp
Awesome reaction. Three Stooges are an all time favorite :)
"Larry's really not into this."
I was thinking he musta had a rough night!
"We ain't getting no place fast!!!" Thats the story of my life!!! Great hat... those were my University colors!!!
Another great show, thank you. I have seen that one a few times, I laugh every time. Shemp is just as funny as Curly. They each had their own method of doing things. I think there is another version of this one possibly with a deleted scene. Thanks again.
This was remade in 1955 and released in 1956 as Husbands Beware, using stock footage.
The actor playing the Justice of the Peace that marries Shemp and his New Bride,in real life was in line to be one of the future stooges...
Curly is Shemp’s replacement. Shemp was before Curly. Check out soup to nuts episode before Curly joined them. It always should’ve been all 4 of them.
Larry Fine really played the piano and also violin. 😀
Shemp is in plenty of movies with some of the top actors of the era. He always seems to be a shemp in all of them.
Half a million in 1947 (when this short was made) would be about 6.2 million today. I'd marry Shemp for that money, lol.
Shemp has grown fond on me over the years. He looks like my lady neighbor. 😂
New sub here.
The Three Stooges never gets old.
These guys are hilarious, they say laughter is the best medicine, I don't know about that, I nearly stopped breathing looking at these exceptional comedians. Hi Kay if you have the time, check out , a snitch in time, poor Moe gets an awful time with Larry and shemp....
Shimp and Curly both were funny in their own ways. Its the 3 stooges nothing else needs to be said.
* Shemp
Kay you. Should see "goof on the roof" thats another good three stooges.
I love the three stooges, my favorites are Larry, Shemp, Curly, and Moe.
It should’ve honestly been the Four Stooges
Ahh the three stooges, classics! love em! Thanks for posting the reactions on youtube!
I don't know a lot of female Stooge fans out there so it's refreshing to see your reaction to these shorts, great reaction to Bridless Groom. Keep up the great work Kay.
This one had 2 of their long-time sidemen, Emil Sitka who was in 32 shorts & films and Christine McIntyre who was in 22 shorts plus remakes.
surely you know, but in reallity not only was Shemp the older of the three Howard brothers (there were 5 in total, but only the three younger became stooges) but also he was in the original Ted Healy act with Moe, so TECHNICALLY Curly was the replacement, and shemp the OG hehehe (they were all amazing, and I love Larry Fine for being able to become such a great complement to what could've easily be a Family act....no to mention the fact that he was a violinist). Great Videos!
Ms. hopkins.... is christine Mclnyter
A movie to watch "the outsiders" also a great book
12:38
The punch was real. Shemp told the actress to hit him as hard as she can. As she refused, he said “Honey, if you want to do a favour, cut loose and do it right.”
That's my favorite part as well. She's in numerous Stooge productions. Lovely and funny as hell.
Definitely one of my favorites and this was the first Shemp short I ever watched too. I'm glad to have grown up watching Shemp and not just Curly. I was so confused why Curly wasn't there as a kid but I've come to understand over the years.
This particular Three Stooges short is one of four that are in public domain. True story.
Your laughing is so contagious and makes the scenes even funnier.
Moe, Where's Your Hat? 7:52
Shemp was always my favorite besides Moe
Oh, I love the Three Stooges, and this is the best short ever. When I first saw it, I was dying.
Actually Curly was a replacement for Shemp, who was a replacement for Curly. In the original lineup it was Ted Healy and his stooges Shemp, Moe and Larry. Shemp went solo and the Stooges separated from Healy. Shemp came back after Curly had to step down.
I believe that Shemp was the first Howard brother to meet Larry.
Great Shemp episode! You might appreciate Pulp Fiction now that you've seen this one.
I love watching these classics. I love watching these with anybody cause we all laugh and start calling each other wise guys and imitating them
I must have seen this short ...a million times.....at least more than once!
But I NEVER get tired of watchin The Three Stooges . Never ever!
The moment at 12:36 - the actress accidentally broke Shemp's nose with that punch. He had told her not to hold back when they were rehearsing the scene, and well... she didn't.
Shemp is also Curly and Moe's brother
In a previous short, Moe and Larry ended up marrying Shemp's sisters. The inheritance was merely a ruse to trick Shemp into getting married too.
I made planes out of balsa wood as well. 🙂
Shemp is great! So funny!
