I think the reason Estonians won is that this type of challenge is part of everyday trainings. When i was in military 20 years ago (conscript) we had to do similar thing after 6 moths of starting. It was about 50km in february (about -10 and snowing) in 24h with only ~6h of daylight. The biggest difficulty is keeping your head and feet in working order (and in that order). Our military tactics emphasize light infantry and guerilla warfare which means every soldier should be able to do this type of marches and challenges. If you do this for the first time and dont really know what to excpect (challenges, terrain etc) it is very easy to not finish. And for all the people here arguing that the british are not good soldiers because they didnt finish: go do a 20k mudrun without proper preparation and then think again. And to people who say "send paras or SAS", yes, absoluteley. Let them come and take the win. Competition only gets better when competitors get tougher. And to all the brits (and other NATO allies): well done, thank you for taking part!
I finished my conscription in Estonia in 2018 and altogether I did 3 similar challenges. The first was after basic training - around 40 km in combat gear + backpack (40 kg in total). The other one was at the end of sergeant training - around 80 km in combat gear (25 kg) in 24h. The third one was for paramedic training - don't know the distance, probably 20-30 km in combat gear + medic's backpack. All three had different challenges as well. The second one was hardest - one person in our squad fainted and had to quit and pretty much all the others were hallucinating by the end.

I can only say to Ukraine's neighbors in the form of Poland and the Baltic states: guys, no NATO will or will be able to protect you due to its small numbers and ABSENCE OF COMBAT EXPERIENCE. Funny, right? A military alliance that has only theoretical experience, only on paper, only in peacetime. Without fighting, you will not gain experience as a soldier. Chasing Bedouins through the deserts as part of the American Forces will not make you an experienced soldier, you will just be snot-nosed kids who will hope for high technology that will not be in the trenches, except for drones of course, there will be more than enough drones and artillery
First of all, the Ukrainian forces inflicted a number of casualties on the Russian black sea fleet and forced it to completely relocate to the eastern half of the black sea, even making the grain blockade(let alone naval siege/landing potential) untennable, with: 1. Slow moving naval drones that are essentially: a chasis, a small boat motor and an explosive strapped on. 2. Neptune/himars missiles. Estonia and Finland have armed themselves (and continue to expand stockpiles) with blue spear and gabriel-v truck launched sea-skimmer missiles which can literally terminate the Russian Baltic sea fleet from their own territory. The units deployed at Russian mainland are all inside a narrow open patch in the gulf of Finland. The more powerful (black sea) fleet has proven incapable of good horizontal defense to even consistently defend itself against slow naval drones(we can see from combat footage that their horizontal ship defense is spraying at a targer with naval guns hoping to take it out, which doesn't always work out). How well do you think the weaker (baltic sea) fleet defend itself against low flying state of the art anti-ship sea skimmer missiles that fly at 1100km/h? Let alone the fact that Russia's exit from the gulf of Finland (through which it supplies Kaliningrad btw) is long and boxed in(can easily be hit with conventional artillery fire from both Finnish and Estonian side. ) The ships of both the military and mercantile fleets there can literally be erased within minutes by a NATO decision, by simple conventional means.
Absolutely ridiculous the guys don't shave any more. Bad decision the MOD done, it looks scruffy and unprofessional. The LCpls is a disgrace to his unit and the British Army, look at the length of his hair.

Russians are USELESS. They don't even have a army anymore because they've all been liquidated. They have a horde of old drunks and scared teenagers.
Just look after them, as sounded 3 rifkes might of got a nice pension but hasn’t paid out for gun shot wounds
Absolutely ridiculous the guys don't shave any more. Bad decision the MOD done, it looks scruffy and unprofessional. The LCpls is a disgrace to his unit and the British Army, look at the length of his hair.
"but muh rights and retention"
There's something really wrong with footwear if people are having to tape their feet up to extremis and are coming off with because their feet are in clip. Issue boots are still clearly garbage. Never had a single problem with Salomons, but strictly speaking, they're "forbidden".
The post toff didn't tie his boot tight enough and the longest march he's ever done was to make his commanding officer a nice cup of tea.
Apparently the UK is going to start using Estonia to house its overflowing prison population. A British Estonian prison colony would be worth it, if you end up with a cool accent like the Ozzies.
This is the definition of fake news. The government would be lynched if they'd agree to something like this.
ozzies are cool tho
This is benefit for Estonian economy that's why they wanted to do it brings 30+ euro million to Estonia
Wignuts 😂😂
Paras would win with ease.
Yeah I’m sure an infantry unit in their lifetime or any other running to a truck and they after do a riddle/math question to get them out in battle. How about do a real test that actually involves warfare
its about cognitive load under pressure and exhaustion. yall acting like you have any idea about running a military training regime because you see one contest
@@sittingbull22322exactly this. Armies are getting smaller and they expect to get more for their money, this includes the infantry.
QDG 😂😂😂
Sending the Maryland National Guard is the lowest level you can go in the American army. A team of West Point cadets would smoke this I bet.
What an Embarrassment
Embarrassing 🇬🇧
Let's send some troops with a bit more about them.
GB is pretty good, they keep fighting.
The Brits should have entered SAS or SBS teams and the US should have entered Rangers and SEALs.
US Delta Force would have likely won gold - or maybe SAS/SBS
You are talking about special forces, the estonian teams were voluntary military personel who only take part of military stuff during the weekends
@@kertglaser2619 Yep, the Estonians were batting way above their supposed training level. But in fact they must have trained like hell to win as convincingly as they did. They made it look "almost easy".
The Estonianteam should be invited to the Best Ranger competition.
@@ericb.4358The thing is in Estonia theres alot of these kind of competitions and since we dont have a lot of people, the training we get is really really good
@@ericb.4358and we also have this thing called "young eagles" aka cadets and they also have lotw of patrol competitions, like 2 months ago me and my team took apart of "kuperjanovlaste rada" it was multiple days and 100km long, our team won it
What a joke. Nothing difficult about it. They aren't even trekking in full gear or etc. Wokeness has reached the estonian army as well.
Was this a Cub Scouts competition, the Krypton Factor was more challenging than this. Ultimate test ???
I guess the Army is stretched but that is a poor show.
Grief! if we are going to do this get teams who can win, my unit motto was "Train hard, fight easy", also why use a female commentator who looks as if she would worry about her makeup if she had to do it!
Because she’s a journalist and not a soldier 🤷🏻♂️😂
@@RoxOutdoors So why not use a soldier?
@@johnallen7807 because forces news is a civvy company 🤷🏻♂️
Incel comment.
Standards have dropped, so scruffy look like a group of alcy's going night fishing down the canal in dpm to dodge bailiffs lol.
All 3 British army teams quit, that's the standard of serving soldiers. How can they say they'll come back next year and smash it when they all quit so early on.
WEAK
Cheers mate

Come on we all know the Estonians are clued in to every part off the course and have all the answers to the riddles lol
Judges are all swedes and finns. You even get minus points if you speak estonian to other teams. Only english allowed.
Not true lol
@@Fas113 are you sure about that ? Gold silver and bronze in their own competition and your telling me they didn’t know what to expect? Lol come man, taking nothing away from our Estonian friend’s though, anyway if they are this good then I’m sure if this exact same competition is held in the Welsh moors off Great Britain with similar challenges then I would expect the Estonian teams to come 1st 2nd and 3rd again if they are this good at doing such challenges on their first try with no help lol but I feel maybe that wouldn’t be the case
Funny hownyour mind instantly goes to accusations of cheating, without knowing anything about us. Estonia has mandatory conscription, all of them go through the same harsh training, come rain, heat, sleet or snow, we march on. The reason our teams took the podium places is because it's our home turf and typical training regime. And it's so because we have a very particular neighbour to the east, we can't afford excuses.
Of course the Estonians were not allowed to even look at the course and tasks before the competition ?
Do you really think so? EDL members (freelancers) exercises REGULARY at weekends ...
Estonian conscripts earn like 100€ per month when they serve the country. Very very pathetic...
Indeed could be better, but its pathetic to the same pathetic people that only have one egoistic reason to live for e.g money and/or vices of abundance. In Estonia people do not serve the country but the society around them.... other estonians and their culture. I advice you to educate yourself more to understand life better and make your own country better at the same time.
yeah they're conscripts not workers, lucky to be paid at all
Conscripts yes but military personnel makes like 2000EUR-3000EUR per month
@@martinkoitmae6655 This idiot acts like making 115-230 euros per month on top of free housing that's better than 70-80% of barracks around the world, warm food 3x a day, fresh gear and weapons is a bad thing
