  • It looks like we've started our latest project prematurely. There's a good deal of planning that needs to be done before we talk long term pricing. We need to sit down with the client, select services, and walk through our deliverables. Then we can price everything out. We put the cart before the horse on this one just because the client needed some content quickly.

Thank you for sharing about billing hourly! Not sure why I've been so hesitant about it all these years, but every single company I've talked to asks my hourly rate...and then I hem and haw and fumble around trying to explain project pricing, and also the pricing changes per project because they're all unique...yeah; hourly FTW! I'm going to try it.

Do you charge the same hourly rate for processing ortho's and editing the captured photos and video?

Yes we do. There's a lot to unpack and work on after the flight is over. We spend more time on the office side than we do on the flight side.

@AZ-Drone thanks sir. I've been charging a lesser fee ($50/hr for photos and $75 for video) but I've been contemplating upping those fees for a while. What you say about time spent is 100% factual and definitely makes sense

Do you charge portal to portal; meaning does the clock start when you leave the office and when you get back to the office?
Or do you work in a prescribed radius and then charge mileage if you go outside that radius? And if say your radius is 60 miles than you will travel 120 miles round trip at no added charge?

For us the clock starts the moment we pull out of the driveway. So portal to portal. Currently we keeping things under 30 miles due to the fact I'm still recovering from issues after my hernia. Long drives are out for the time being. To your additional question, we're charging our regular rate while on the road. 1 hour drive = $175 We've had some very long drives to raw land sites toward the Grand Canyon and after a few issues where the roads were "rough" we started billing our regular hourly rate rather than mileage.
