    Shame that they got rid of the back and forward button on the V2 in favor of a talkback button despite having room enough for a full transport section. It would be the perfect controller with its preamps for the VO studio.

    also worth mentioning the Nucleus can control the SSL Sigma very well turning it into a full analog console,

    If they made a UF 16 or 24 then I’m down. However you’re still giving up a couple of bike preamps from SSL which is always nice to have

    Howdy, very informative videos regarding the SSL Nucleus, thank you. I had a few questions though. Would you recommend the Nucleus 2 is I'm going to be using an RME interface for both input/output? Is there any advice you recommend on buying them online? Any parts I should check when it first arrives? Im thinking of just purchasing the Nucleus 1 which the version can be updated correct? Or would you recommend me go another direction and get something newer? I want my daw controller to have the transport control with the scrolling wheel, channel meter, etc. to have the analog feel. I was also looking at the avid C24 but read some forums where they recommend you stay away, what are your thoughts on that?

      A lot of people ask me how I compare these two but I see them as totally different processors. I will do my thoughts it though.

    Thanks for the review. Do you think a second-hand Nucleus 1 is still a good investment now that the Nucleus range has been discontinued? I probably won't use the mic pre's and the USB interface is no longer supported under OSX. I secretly hope that SSL will release a Nucleus 3 with 360 software and USB support, because personally, I don't think the UF8 is a worthy successor to the Nucleus. No comparison really.

      I use the Nucleus 1 on Windows and have never had an issue with compatibility, so I would say it is brilliant and worth getting for under £1500 second hand if it is compatible with your system. I have tried nearly every controller and none match up to the nucleus. The uf8 isn't anywhere close the the nucleus quality. Nucleus feel UK made uf8 feels Chinese made and cheap in comparison. I don't think they'll do a nucleus 3 but if they did I'd buy one straight away. I think you'll see a uf16 come out soon. Which will be like the avid s3.

      @@AudioAnimalsStudio I now have the Icon Qcon G2 with extender, so also 16 faders and a transport section, via USB. Fine setup by the way, that's why I doubt if a 10 year old Nucleus 1 is really an upgrade for me. Apart from compatibility with new OSX versions and uncertainty about the IPmidi protocol... its kinda tricky

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  3 года назад +1

      @@eriksmeets9254 I wouldn't say a nucleus 1 is worth upgrading to. It would be an upgrade I'm terms of feel but what really matters is being future proof. And you really can't 100% say that's going to be the case on a mac.

    Absolutely great video man! Appreciate it so much! I’ve been currently looking for a good controller for Protools… As well as my FL studio program and Abelton that my producers use. Yes but actually most curious if this unit is still working well with the newest version of Protools?! Would greatly appreciate your input man!

    Hello, our nucleus randomly looses connection with protools hui and forces total system re-power, turning off ethernet firewall did not fix the issue, have you ever encounter a similar problem?

    One question that I can’t understand. Why doesn’t the UF8 have transport control. I’d have bought one straight away. Instead I’m looking at x-touch or fader port 16 as they’re usb. Guess there’s the Nucleus 2 I need to look at too but, having UA outboard I’d be paying for things I’ve already got?

    I found a gen 1 for sale used, wondered what difference gen 2 have over 1.
    Say if you have a budget of 3k to 5k max, and you are looking for an all in one solution, would you buy this or if there's a better solution in the market today?

    Hey man, you've convinced me to get a used Nucleus. Am I going to have any firmware issues connecting it to Pro Tools Studio Version 2022.4.0. ??

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  2 года назад

      I used it up to 2021 version of Protools with zero issues. The only issue you will ever have with it is if SSL decide to not update and an OS or PT requires an update. I would personally go with a SSL UF8 because the Nucleus will eventually become obsolete over some time due to updates. The UF8 is now SSL's controller than will get all updates required.

    Are you using this controller on Windows? If so are you running HUI through USB?

  • @crescentsoundstudios
    @crescentsoundstudios Год назад

    Hey Bud. Can the Nucleus be controlled via usb using HUI? I just want to use it to control my cubase functions. My problem is I'm already using ethernet for my internet. Is there a work around? Tried the UF8. Was not happy. No transport controls, many buttons not usable (I use Cubase), and overall it felt cheap. It's amazing there are no control surfaces on the market today with transport controls like the Nucleus has. The closest I could find was the Mackie MCU which I've had for many years now. Any insight would be appreciated. Thx Pete

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  Год назад

      Unfortunately not. You have to use ethernet. I was going to suggest a uf8 as the logical option. You always have the Avid s1 and Dock. Or do what I did and get the Avid s4.

    Great video! Question for you: I heard that the Nucleus is not able to function when the host computer is connected to the internet. True? If this is the case, would it also make it impossible to use if the host computer is connected to a Dante network? I'm considering setting up Dante in my studio, and wondering if my Nucleus will turn into a brick if I do that. I have a Nucleus, but have not set it up yet. Studio is undergoing renovations.

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  2 года назад

      No not true. This may be true if you aren't using a switch but I've never had issue with using Internet while the nucleus was on.

      @@AudioAnimalsStudio Thanks for your speedy reply. Good to know it is working for you with the switch. What kind of switch is needed? BTW, I just contacted SSL, and they said it would be possible, even with Dante. But yes, I believe a switch, is required. SSL also said that in some cases some calibration of the system with IP addresses may also be required.
