I remember playing with one of the versions of this Godzilla when I was a kid. We would stand him up on top of a slide that went into our swimming pool and let him slide down into it. His tail broke off so many times from his pool antics that it wouldn't snap back on and his legs filled up with water. I also recall pretending that he was swatting my X-wing fighter out of the sky and breathing fire at it. For the longest time my friends and I couldn't get any star wars toys except the Jawas, C-3PO and one X-wing fighter so Godzilla was a proxy for a generic "space monster". I think it was the Summer of 1977. Those were good times. Thanks for bringing back the memories, Bella!

Thanks Bella! This might be the best shogun godzilla video I have seen. Based on your video info, I just realized one of my models does have the JAPAN under his feet with a tail with no spines - so this must be the 1st edition. It doesn't have any sand bags weighed in the legs though. My other model has USA on the feet and has spines on it's tail. I can't seem to notice any color differences in my two models.
The weights in the legs are most likely not sand. Other Shogun Warriors figures used a plastic bottle filled with iron filings in each leg. Please don't ask how I know this. Great video.

Who else had theirs fall backwards and break the red handle on the back? Maybe the weights in gen 1 would help avoid that. I suspect the one I had as a kid (long gone) was made in the US. Anyway, great video. As others have said I didn't realize there were so many versions of the big guy.

I've been saying this for several years, and that since Godzilla was part of the toyline, then 'maybe' the next set of Godzilla films could introduce the Shogun Warriors on the big screen. I know some will probably claim that the Pacific Rim Jaegers were the cinematic version, but that hasn't been confirmed and/or Pacific Rim is connected to Godzilla, so there is always the possibility that the Shogun Warriors 'could' be brought in, as part of humans attempting to create the means to protect themselves from all of the giant monsters around the world, if not go by the Marvel Comics storyline, which would be a whole lot better. Whether it is three robots (Danguard Ace, Raydeen and Combatra), or ALL of the robots, it would be AWESOME to see the SHOGUN WARRIORS on the big screen.
There are two variations to the first issue - very few of them have a smaller shooting fist with a straight thumb - this was changed so most of them have a slightly larger fist with a bent thumb that continued during the run. Also, most of the first issue have the bumps on the tail, seems only the very first were missing the humps. One other thing - if you look at the first issue box it says "Made in Japan" and by Bandai - technically this is the first US release of Bandai's Godzilla.

Because some kid that was invited over to the party... a kid I didn't even know.... took this toy from my hands, and started playing with it. He BROKE the red lever on my BRAND NEW BIRTHDAY GIFT! Was eight years old and these along with the Shogun Warriors were awesome. Definitely got played with and they were practically indestructible by today's standard of cheap toys. Take these toys against your traditional plastic army men to have your own Kaiju war. Best played with while watching a godzilla movie or traditional monster movie such as Valley of Gwangi. Things only got better when the Star Wars toys came out. Unfortunately there was that Battle Star Galactic toy incident and all toys later got their spring loaded weapons heavily nerfed. As I kid I was ticked. My toys use to shoot missiles across the room and now they barely travelled a few inches.

I remember seeing one that was a brown color back in the late 70s. The next brown one I seen was around 1986, a buddy that lived in the neighborhood had just a brown hand and tail. He couldn't remember what happened to the rest of it. My wife and I found one at a toy show that had it's original box, but it was just to expensive. That was the last brown one I seen and that was around 20 years ago. I have found very little information on the brown one and most people don't know it even existed.

I have the second version one that I got for Christmas as a kid. I did see a Japanese version of that one but it looked more like the Showa Godzilla.
Mine says 1977 Japan on the feet, is primed, but the dorsal plates continue onto the tail. I got it when I was five back on Christmas 1978.
One of those figures is worth more than my entire godzilla collection :(
